Week In Review (October 27 – November 2, 2014)

My Week In Review (otherwise known as WIR) posts are just that: a review of my past week.  I post an update here every Tuesday sharing some tidbits of my previous week as well as an accompanying photo recap with selections from my Instagram.  Here’s the buzz from my week:

Hello, internet friends!  Long time no WIR, I know.  October went by in a whirl with lots of things I needed to attend to in my private life, so I had to put my weekend vlogs & WIR posts on hold for a time, but I hope to be back to regular posting now.  I also really neglected my Instagram account for awhile and sadly only have recap photos from the weekend to share, so let’s call this a Weekend In Review post instead.  This past weekend was marked by two events, the first of which being Halloween.  And a frosty one it was, too!  I felt so sorry for the kiddos.  The weather was atrocious!  When there’s candy on the line, however, the kids in our neighborhood are real troupers and they came out in almost full force to trick or treat.  We’ve taken to giving out full size Kit Kat bars in recent years and they are always a hit.  Even with the “wintry mix,” frigid temperature, and frightful winds, we managed to give away all but one box of candy!

The other big event of the weekend was a fete we held at our house to celebrate Don’s parents’ 35th anniversary.  We actually co-hosted with Don’s sister and his Aunt, who contributed delicious snacks and the gorgeous party decorations for the event.  Don smoked a massive prime rib roast that was a huge hit all around.  It was fun to get together with more of our extended family than we get to see on a regular basis and host the wonderful couple.  I truly enjoy hosting parties for our loved ones, but I’m terrible about leaving enough time getting ready.  I’m so busy running around with the final preparations that I barely leave time to make myself look presentable.  Does this happen to anyone else?  Thank goodness for good makeup that works in a jiffy to cover up my “busy getting ready for party” face.  Everything came together so beautifully and the honored guests seemed to really enjoy their celebration.  Don, Winnie, and I slept very well that night with full bellies, tired feet, and happy hearts.

Another big thing that happened last week is that I surpassed the 100k subscriber mark on my OLJ YouTube channel.  This is a pretty big deal kind of milestone and it’s hard to believe I actually made it there!  Big hugs and lots of love to all who subscribe to me and support me.  I appreciate your enthusiasm for what I do and look forward to sharing much more with you!  I am one very happy lady!  In the words of my new Erin Condren Life Planner cover:

It’s not happy people who are thankful.  It is thankful people who are happy.

I am grateful to you for not only watching my videos and reading my blog, but for your support and encouragement.  I never would have imagined filming a target=”_blank”>rambly video about to-do lists back in the summer of 2010 would turn into what I do now and it would not have happened or continue to grow without you.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  1. YAY! So happy to see you are back to posting! Ive missed my weekly dose of myhousewifelife! Also congrats to Don’s parents and your 100K subscribers!

  2. Glad you are back. I also love cleaning up after a party/gathering. It’s so nice to have everything back in its place. Unfortunately, with four kids and a husband it only remains that way when we are all in bed!

  3. Does Don have a special way to make mashed potatoes ahead of time? It looks like he might have made them, and then maybe baked them?

  4. Congrats on reaching 100 subscribers and to your in-laws wedding anniversary! I am so happy for you and them! I have a video request for you: Is it possible for you to do a video and/or blog post about your journey of YouTube and maybe talk about how you got started, any inspirations, how you got the ball rolling with it, what sort of camera to use, any editing programs, etc…I was watching your blog journey video from 2013, and it made me inspired to ask you this question. This past summer, I began making videos for my newly created YouTube channel, and I’ve been slowly teaching myself how to edit and upload these videos…Also, how do you deal with negative criticism from people who don’t like the way you do things (i.e. find a system that works for you and sticking with it?) I have a few systems designed for different types of things that I do on an almost-daily-basis but my problem is the negative criticism and crudeness that I receive from people. I try my best to ignore it, but the other day, the pressure came boiling over and I had a nervous breakdown in front of the common room at my college! I was so humiliated that I spent the whole day home…

    1. I’m sorry to hear about your problems with less than kind people. It’s tough to ignore, but ultimately you have to remind yourself that what they say is really not about you at all. It is about all of the hate and negativity in their own lives and not having an appropriate and healthy outlet to let go of those things. Stay strong!

Also, yes, I will do a video/post on my YouTube journey at some point. I get a lot of requests for this.

  5. Congratulations on your YouTube milestone – you must be so proud! You put a lot of time and effort in to your video’s and it shows.

It’s great to see your weekend vlogs back but good for you on taking some time off for yourself!

  6. Lovely video as always! Congrats on hitting 100K followers.

Where did you get the blue hoodie you were wearing at least one of the days? Also, can you say the name of that tea? I didn’t catch it. Is it loose or bagged? Can’t wait for your next Tea Time!

    1. The collared sweatshirt was from VS Pink either earlier this year or late last year. The hoodie was from Disney World.

  7. Whoo hoo congratulations on the Youtube milestone!!!

Loved your weekend vlog! I’ve missed them!! And I’ve missed Winnie too – so great to see her, love her halloween bows!!

Thank you so much for doing a halloween decoration tour – I always love seeing your halloween decor and even though you’ve had the items for a while it’s still nice to know where they came from as sometimes those places have similar items every year! You know you can still get that black cat decoration at Michaels – lol I just bought one this year 🙂

How many kids did you guys end up getting on Halloween? We only got 15 kids this year 🙁

Looks like a great Anniversary party you and don hosted for your in-laws too! Thanks for letting us join you this weekend!

      1. Wowee!! Lucky you guys!! I so love Halloween and having kids come trick or treating, but our neighbourhood is all big lots with long driveways that most of the kids in our neighbourhood go elsewhere for trick or treating…

  8. congrats on such a great milestone! I’ve been watching from almost the very beginning, and I still love all the videos! 🙂

btw, I may have missed it but did you get a new vlogging camera?
