Week In Review | March 9 – March 15, 2015

Hello friends!  I wanted to share some tidbits from my life last week as well as an accompanying photo recap with selections from my Instagram feed with you.  Here’s the buzz:

The beginning of my week didn’t start off on the right foot…or any feet at all for that matter as I spent a couple of days under the weather in bed.  Luckily I had my all-star home care team of husband, Don, and pup, Winnie, who gave me all the TLC I needed for a swift recovery.  My sweet Mom even popped in for a midweek visit (we usually see each other for girl-time/lunch on Fridays) complete with hugs, flowers, and chocolate treats.  Talk about feeling pampered!  Later in the week even though I felt physically better, I was having a bummer kind of day and sweet Don made me one of his amazing grilled cheese sandwiches complete with a sliced pickle (my fave!) and veggie puffs to help cheer me up.  Comfort food like this is the way to my heart!  Fortunately, my slump didn’t last long and by the end of that very day I was feeling more like my usual chipper and optimistic self.  Food isn’t the answer to solving problems, but the sweet gesture definitely helped lift my mood.

I spend more time in the bath when I’m not feeling great (either physically or emotionally), so I managed to get in quite a bit of tub and reading time last week.  I actually finished two books and started on a third!  It’s so nice to be back to reading on a daily basis again, especially after surprisingly not fitting much in over the winter holiday.  I enjoy all kinds of literature, but have been in the mood for chick lit and mysteries lately (and sometimes a combination of both), as you can see from my picks.  I just posted a Book Nook on Confessions of a Shopaholic if you’d like to hear my thoughts and should have reviews of the other two up soon.  I’m enjoying getting back into book reviews.

My general well-being improved just in time to truly enjoy the glorious spring weather this weekend.  My goodness, it was ever so nice out!  I took extra long walks with Winnie every day in just a fleece jacket for the first time since fall.  I also relished airing out the house a few days in a row.  There’s nothing quite like opening all of the windows and letting fresh air run through the house for the first time after a long winter all shut up inside.  Winnie loves open window days, too.  Plus, there was a lot of people watching for her on the block this weekend as everyone was out and about running, walking, and playing in the neighborhood.  Welcome, spring!  We are so ready for you!

Don and I enjoyed a weekend at home with no big plans for the first time in awhile.  It was so relaxing!  I was able to run a bunch of fun errands I haven’t had the opportunity to do in some time.  We also enjoyed a lovely casual evening at Don’s folk’s house last night.  I vlogged our weekend at home if you’re interested in seeing more:

I’d love to know what your favorite comfort food is as well as any books you’re reading and loving lately if you care to share.  Here’s to a good week!
Take good care…

  2. Hi Jen! I’m so glad that you’re feeling better! Right now, I’m on spring break from college and I’m going on a trip to visit my aunt and cousins. I really wanted to thank you for all of your advice with blogging and YouTube and it really meant a lot and I extremely appreciate it! I find that you’re one of the most honest, genuine, caring and generous person on YouTube and I find that the career path that you’ve chosen for your life rocks! Recently, I bought my first set of the EC Pack-It Cubes and I can’t wait to see how well they work out for me throughout my trip.
Hope that you have a great week!
    Take care
    Katherine M.

  3. Glad you are feeling better! Grilled cheese is a favorite of mine as well, even more if you add some pancetta! Yum! Ice cream is high on the list as well, though it’s not a fan of me ha.

  4. Hi Jen! I wanted to recommend my favorite – the Stephanie Plum series from Janet Evanovich. It’s mystery/chic lit – very fun.

Happy to see a vlog – and happy to see spring!

  5. It was so good to see all of you again!! You all make me SMILE!! Thanks for sharing. I would love any kind of vlog you would like to do-planners, tea, knitting, books, cooking or just day to day life! They are all so good and fun to watch. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!

  6. OK, I need to re-write my entire prior comment. I just watched your vlog and it was fantastic! I love watching you bum around the house – and I’m so excited you’re going back to running! I find it so motivating to see all the working out you’re doing, yay. I’d love to see a “series of the week” – v nice idea.

You really seemed happy in this vlog, so I’m happy for you. I’m in Chicago too – so I think we were all happier this weekend!

  7. Yeah! Another video. They are the most fun to watch and always bring such a smile. I hope you will continue to do them in whatever form they take. They are my most favorite format. Wishing you a Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Eliz

  8. Hi Jen! Glad to hear that you are feeling better! You have such an amazing support system around you…what a blessing, especially on those down and out days. A hot bowl of soup or pasta with lots of sauce are two of my favorite comfort dishes. Can’t go wrong with those. 🙂 As for book reading, I have been listening to The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah on Audible on my commute home from work. Such an emotional read so far and very well written. Looking forward to more book reviews from you!

  9. My favorite vlog in a while! Reminds me of your old school vlogging. 🙂 I don’t know why, but I seem to really enjoy your day in the life videos the best. Kuddos! And I love the idea of themed videos.

  10. Hi Jen! Have you tried the Get Some zzz’s tea from Republic of Tea? It’s a great night time tea. I love it so much I have it on auto ship 🙂 Anyways, what brand pickles are you having? I’m looking for some good ones and those look delish!

  11. Hi Jen, glad you are feeling better. We all have down days sometimes and I feel that they allow us to appreciate the ‘good days’ even more. It is great to ‘know yourself’ and know what to do on the ‘not so good days’. For me I enjoy a walk by the sea and a nice long bath with a good book. I enjoyed watching your vlog, I am from Ireland and it was lovely to see your little St. Patrick’s Day celebration. It’s really nice to see that our little country is thought about all over the world on St. Patricks Day.

    1. I do have a tiny bit of Irish blood in me as do so many others in the states. It’s nice to celebrate different heritages. I wish we did more of that for other countries as well!

  12. Hi Jen,
Would love to see your planner review ASAP. Am currently looking at several options: Erin Condren vs Inkwell Press. If you could do it now that would be great as I am looking now for a planner for fall. It is great that you have access to different options so we can “try before we buy”. The customized planners are fun but expensive…I have always just used an At a glance planner from Staples which is a cheap(er) way to go but would love a custom one. Just don’t want to spend a bunch of money on something that doesn’t fit my needs. Tried to do the electronic version one summer on the Iphone but that was a disaster! I need to write stuff down and cross it off as I go. There’s nothing better than a to do list that has been all crossed off 🙂

  13. I realy enjjoyed watching your vie,, the Yankee Candles..just wow!love the perfumed candles.
Thank you for this lovely post, and Winnie is so cute!

  14. Oh Jen I just LOVED your vlog! Videos like these are my absolute favorite in the world! I love just getting to “hang out” with you and Don and see Don’s crazy hair in the morning and see your shopping hauls and hear about your workouts, see Winnie, etc! It’s all so awesome! Thank you!!

I would like to see a planner video sooner vs waiting until the summer. If you put it out there now people will be able to have longer to do research and compare and think about which planner to purchase before it’s already time to place orders. Plus a company’s planner doesn’t usually change too much from year to year so having the info sooner would probably be more helpful.
