It’s beginning to feel a lot like summer! After an iffy May, the weather is finally starting to heat up around here and we’re busy getting ready for the season. I’d like to share some tidbits from my life last week as well as an accompanying photo recap with selections from my Instagram feed with you.
Normally this time of year I’d be splitting my workouts between running and inline skating outside, but I’m sticking to my home gym for the time being. After taking two full weeks off exercise due to a back injury, I was pumped to get back on the elliptical machine last week. I’m feeling good and planning on slowly reincorporating light weight training this week. Hopefully I’ll be hitting the pavement again soon, but I know it’s best to wait until I’ve built my strength up to protect from injury. While nothing beats exercising outside in my opinion, I can at least catch up with my favorite YouTube channels while I’m on the elliptical.
My husband, Don, has been amping up his fitness as well now that he’s feeling fully recovered from his back surgery early last month. He’s been using the elliptical and easing back into golf, his favorite pastime. Don is doing so much better than he has in a long time and is happy to be back in the swing of things (pun intended 😉 ). I couldn’t be happier for him!
In addition to gearing up our fitness, we’ve been switching up our nutrition for the summer months, which mainly means a lot more grilled items. Don made his signature grilled shrimp fajitas early last week and we gathered with the Ross family mid-week for a build-your-own-burger dinner. I’ve picked back up one of my favorite warm weather breakfasts which is cottage cheese with fresh berries. All of this grilled and fresh food feels like summer to me!
There are signs of the seasons shifting outside our home as well. With the last of the spring bulbs finally fading and the cool weather behind us, I can finally plant my summer annuals, including our flower beds and pots. The roses in the neighborhood have started to bloom and the bees are getting busy! The air feels heavier with the humidity settling in and the summer perennials are thriving between sunny and stormy days.
I’m still thick into my “spring cleaning,” which more like a year long purge process rather than a seasonal one. I managed to weed through ten years worth of paper memorabilia last week (which I will share in my upcoming craft closet clean out post), most of which I purged. I did hold onto the most important momentos and all photos. I found a few random shots of me as a baby, one of which I shared on Instagram. I thought it was interesting how many people thought I looked like my niece Grace, to whom I have no genetic ties. We don’t really look anything alike in person. Grace is super cute, of course, so if those comments just means people think I was a cute baby, I’ll take it!
One of the highlights of my week was receiving a PR box from Erin Condren previewing the new 2015-16 Life Planners. They are stunning! I put up an in-depth video and blog post featuring what came in my box, both of which you can find here if you missed them. Judging by the comments I’ve received so far, the rose gold edition is going to be a big hit. The new lineup launches today! I spent my weekend working for the most part, but was happy to steal some time gardening and lounging in the yard with my pup, Winnie. I know I’ve been really slacking on her blog this year and I hope to change that this summer. I decided to film a fun tag with her and answer some of your questions about Winnie in this video:
I’d love to hear how your week was if you care to share. I hope the sun is shining wherever you are!
Happy (almost) Summer!
