Week In Review (June 2 – June 9, 2014)

My Week In Review (otherwise known as WIR) posts are just that: a review of my past week.  I post an update here every Tuesday sharing some tidbits of my previous week as well as an accompanying photo recap with selections from my Instagram.  Here’s the buzz from my week:

As much as I love going on vacation, there’s truly no place like home, especially when that home includes my dog Winnie!  I really missed my little girl, as I always do when we’re apart.  She was well taken care of by her Aunt Julie, which is nice because I don’t worry about her when I’m away.  Seeing her lying at my feet as I journal at night brings a smile to my heart.  I spent the bulk of last week playing catch up between household tasks and my work schedule.  Don was away on business all week, so the house was pretty quiet with just me and my girl.  I miss my DH terribly whenever we’re apart, but we message all throughout the day and talk on the phone every night so we can still share with each other.  Don had a gorgeous bouquet sent to me at the beginning of the week to enjoy while he was away that is still very fresh and lovely even now!  He’s such a thoughtful guy.  Other than that, it was a pretty normal week filled with some gorgeous weather that inspired me to swap out to my new summer bag, the lovely Kate Spade Cobbie Hill Little Curtis, a perfect mint blue beauty!

A few other fun tidbits I pulled off my Instagram from last week I wanted to share:

✻ I am obsessed with the Citrus Zinger water bottle that came in my May PopSugar Must Have Box.  This product is so cool!  I recommend checking out their website to see all of the other cool designs they have and learn more about how it works.  My current favorite combination is a quarter lemon with a whole bunch of mint leaves in the bottom.  I drink about 40 ounces of this infused water a day (and the rest just plain water).  Discovering great products like this is what I love most about my PopSugar Must Have subscription.

✻ I reached 130 miles out of the #150BySummer in the Tone It Up #BikiniSeries challenge.  Today I hit 140 (I’ve added a mile due to #133 being absent – thanks for the head’s up on that!) and I still have a week and a half left of the challenge.  I know I will easily meet this goal in the next few days.  I have loved this challenge and am feeling fit and healthy with summer approaching!

✻ New luggage alert!  I took advantage of the travel sale (which recently ended) on the Erin Condren website and ordered one of their gorgeous suitcases to test out this summer.  I’ve never owned a hard-sided suitcase before and am eager to put it to the test!  There was a bit of a snafu with my order in which the other side of the bag was accidentally decorated with a rejected design quote, but the nice folks at Erin Condren swiftly accepted responsibility and offered to replace the bag.  I really like this company, if you couldn’t already tell!  FYI – The Erin Condren website is in the process of being revamped and the travel category is not currently active.  I was assured that they will still be offering this luggage.

We spent a wonderful weekend with friends, family, and just our little family.  On Friday night we went downtown to visit our dear friends who are moving to Milwaukee.  Although I know we will still get together often, as Milwaukee is not that far from us, it was still a little bittersweet to be hanging out in the city one last time before the move.  We ended the evening sharing some Nutella deliciousness at Eataly.  On Saturday, we headed back downtown to catch the matinee of In The Garden at Lookingglass Theatre.  We have seen many shows in this great space over the years and are always blown away by their productions.  Don and I both thoroughly enjoyed and recommend catching this “Darwinian love story” if you’re in the area!  It runs through June 29, 2014.

We enjoyed a “lazy” Sunday together with lots of fresh air.  We walked into town for Starbucks in the morning and then walked back again in the evening for dinner at Yard House with our pup.  I love being able to dine al fresco with her!  While Don played golf in the afternoon, I finalized the details of our trip to Disney World later this year.  That’s right, we’re going back!  After an impromptu trip to Disneyland earlier this year for my birthday, I didn’t think we would go to Disney World this year, especially since I am not running in any of the half marathons.  We just couldn’t stay away, I guess!  We were talking about it for a couple of weeks and decided to just go.  If you can swing it, why not?  I’ve now booked our flights, special tickets, and dining, so we’re all set for our trip in December.  How exciting!

If you’d like to see more from my weekend, check out my vlog:

In addition to Disney World, we have several other fun trips planned this year and I look forward to sharing them with you.  I’d love to know if you have any trips or staycations in the works this summer, fall, or winter.  Feel free to share if you’d like!  Safe travels & happy trails 🙂

  1. Hi Jen,

It really warms my heart to see how close you and Don are, even when you’re apart! I am engaged to my best friend and love of my life, and really hope to take some pointers from your relationship for ours. My fiance is currently studying for his PHD and, as such, when he completes this, he will have to travel a lot. Seeing you and Don makes me so happy, and reminds me that the best part of a relationship is a true friendship, not necessarily being with each other 24/7.

I love your new vlog style, and that you continue to defy the haters and share your life with us.

You are blessed with a wonderful family, and I wish you every happiness for now, and the future.

  2. Do you mind sharing what resturants you have booked or any ideas for fast passes I know you have done a video on this in the last but I would love to know some reccomendations.

    1. For this trip I have booked some of our faves including California Grill, Jiko, Le Cellier, Artist Point, and Victoria & Albert’s. I’m still learning about the new fastpass plus system but there’s lots of great blogs out there if you google it sharing tips & tricks. This trip will be our first experience using it and not the old (“legacy”) fast pass system (i.e. paper tickets).

      1. Thanks! Can’t wait to see your vlogs. I have been watching some of your old ones to get inspiration for our upcoming trip! I am surprising my daughter with a trip in November can’t wait to see the Christmas decor!

  3. Oh and I forgot to share – I also loved the citrus zinger water bottle from the Popsugar May box, but before I got that I had the Takeya fruit infuser water pitchers that are just so fabulous! They make a nice amount of water so I don’t have to keep making it when I’m home. I have put strawberries and blood oranges, mint and cucumber, and lemon/limes and they’re all super yummy! Sort of like a spa feeling at home! Here’s the link to what they look like: http://www.amazon.com/Takeya-Drink-Pitcher-Infuser-Included/dp/B00BZA0UDG/ref=pd_sim_k_10?ie=UTF8&refRID=03HM2J0J09YV1QASQ8Z7

  4. How lovely that you are going back to WDW…I love your Disney Vlogs and it was through your 2012 Disney packing series that I subscribed to your website!! If you are going to the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party you will have a ball…we were there in 2001 and it really is Magical!! I hope to return to WDW in either 2016 or 2017…I just love it there! 🙂

I have 2 trips this year…a few days in Dungloe, Co Donegal over the Northern Ireland July Bank Holidays with my sister, her husband and their Irish Terrier Matt ( the holiday home allows dogs!) and a solo cruise in November from Venice to Barcelona!!

There is a quote from Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice “Take Every Opportunity To Enjoy Yourself” so enjoy all your upcoming trips! B-)

    1. I agree, I also highly recommend Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! We went last year and it’s so magical!

  5. Hi Jen, my husband n I have a Cancun vacation planned for the end of this month and a Disneyland trip in July. FYI, I have a very stressful job and your vlogs take me away from all that at least for a little while, I do enjoy them

  6. Jen,

I really enjoy getting to see you,Don and Winnie each weekend. Thanks so much for sharing with us, I know it is a lot of work, but it is very enjoyable for us and I appreciate you doing it!

  7. Hi Jen

I have really been enjoying your weekend vloggs. You and Don seem very happy and relaxed. Thank you for sharing your moments with us. I have a daughter(Jen age 7)who loves watching your vloggs( abig fan of winnie!). Also my partners and i relationship is now stronger than ever, thanks to yours and Dons inspiration for date nights. We had forgotten as much as we value and love time as a family , we still needed time apart together. Also your disney vloggs really helped prepare us for our Disney holidays. If you and Don get a chance to go to Discovery Cove when in orlando next, I really reccomend it, it was really worth the extra $$$ , and has made memories to last a life time. Happy travels Jen from UK x If you and Don also need a new box dvd set to watch , i really recommend Supernatural, and Grimm.

  8. We are going to Las Vegas in September. I’m so excited. It will be our first time out West. Do you have any restaurant recommendations for Vegas?

    1. We went to a few extremely schmancy ones…I’m not sure if that is up your alley? They were fantastic but lots of courses and very pricey. Let me know.

      1. I am definitely interested we are going all out for this trip since don’t get to go on vacation very often. And we might as well live it up now that we have the means to.

        1. Our favorite restaurant we went to during our last trip there was Joël Robuchon’s restaurant which is in the MGM Grand and right next to the theater where Cirque du Soleil’s KÀ is performed. It makes for a very memorable evening but leave a minimum of 3 hours for dinner because it is a lot of courses and a very leisurely pace!

  9. Do you ever go to church on Sundays? I thought I saw a video once where you did but it seems like maybe not any more? Just wondering your views on religion

    1. As I’ve mentioned before, I prefer to keep some topics, such as my religious beliefs and political affiliations private. I appreciate your understanding 🙂

  10. Hey Jen!

I love these weekly recaps. I’m going to Disney in November and although we go to Disney a lot, I’ve never been during the holidays! I’m so excited! I’ll watch your old Disney vlogs a little before we leave to get pumped up 😉

Also on the schedule is a wedding in Vail this summer and we are making a vacation out if it. NYC to visit my best friend. The beach in August with my whole family. And perhaps a mini girls trip this fall!! :)))
I love vacation planning as much as you I think!!!

Btw…you once showed this kate spade cross body brown bag and I believe it has scallops on it with an imprinted design on the leather and gold hardware. If you remember…….what is the name of that one? I looked but couldn’t find it anywhere.

    Thanks Jen!!! Xo

  11. Oh my gosh! I am too excited that you’re going back to Disney World. I get so happy when I learn anyone’s going. Can’t wait to see videos from that. I’m hoping to possibly go to WDW in December but right now planning our trip to Mexico (Puerto Vallarta)!

  12. Thanks for sharing with us, Jen 🙂

Wow! Back to Disney! Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures there 🙂

My husband and I are in the midst of planning a week away in July, with our work schedules finally lining up to do so. We live in Canada (Ontario) and are hoping to go somewhere up north or to the west coast – somewhere with water, fresh air, and sunshine to relax and rejuvenate.

Hope you’re enjoying the sunshine where you are 🙂

  13. We are heading to Daytona Beach in August and I can’t wait to sink my feet into the sand! Our daughters are 22 and 19 and one wants to go to Disney and one wants to go to Universal-she’s a huge Harry Potter fan, so we’re going to divide and conquer-one parent and one child to Disney and the other to Universal. They like this idea because they both don’t want to go to both parks and it will save us a few bucks to spend elsewhere. We went to Discovery Cove last year and it was awesome! I would love to go back there sonetime.

    1. They’re opening a new attraction for Harry Potter at Universal this summer. I am so excited to see it! You can read more about it here if you like 🙂

  14. Congrats on your upcoming Disney trip! We’re going in September (my 11th trip, my boyfriend’s 4th), staying at the Wilderness Lodge and can’t wait. We’re also spending two nights onsite at Universal to see the new Harry Potter stuff. I know you guys went to Universal on one of your trips– are you planning to in December? I hope you talk about the planning of this trip, and vlog it. I’ll need someway to get my Disney fix after we come home!!

  15. What a lovely vlog 🙂 I was a little scared hearing that you were bringing back the comments on YouTube, but then I felt so relieved hearing that you would monitor them. You are such a sweet person and it honestly upsets me when I see other people saying mean things to/about you for the sake of saying them.
Your positivity is really inspiring! 🙂

  16. Exciting news that you are going back to Disney. I’m currently planning a Christmas trip to Disney for myself and 7 other people plus 1 four legged friend. It was actually through researching the trip that I found your videos and blog and I’m very happy I did. You truly can bring a smile to my face. My family is driving from Toronto (at two different times) and renting a house for almost two weeks just off property. I’m the planner in chief of this nuttiness but I kind of love it. The only thing that causes any concern is the road trip and making sure everything for 3 adults can be packed in the trunk of a mid sized car including luggage, presents, electronics, cooler etc. Any suggestions for a character brunch for my nephews?

    Your friend in Toronto,

    1. Sounds like it will be a trip to remember! TBH, I don’t have much experience with the character dining. We went to the Crystal Palace MK for dinner our first trip there back in 2003, which was fun! The food wasn’t spectacular but they offered a pretty nice selection and it was all Winnie the Pooh & Friends characters which I liked. We also went to Chef Mickey’s in the Contemporary a couple of years ago which is fun for breakfast/brunch and has Chef Mickey (of course), Pluto, Goofy, and Chip & Dale. The characters might not be the same now, though. I do recommend getting a reservation and even with one being prepared to wait as the character dining is extremely popular and they’re usually running behind schedule.

  17. Our Teddy Bear shows his dissatisfaction the same way. When we confine him while unloading groceries, we always get the one pitiful ‘woof’ out of him. Such a shame they have such a rough life!

  18. Hi Jen! That’s so weird… I’ve been contemplating on buying the same Kate Spade bag for a week now… : ) I just don’t know which color to get!!! My friends and I are visiting Chicago this summer and I wanted a cross body bag that can hold a small bottle of water, my camera, my walking pharmacy and my wallet… oops, and my cellphone, of course! Let me know if this bag is big enough for all my stuff… Can’t wait to visit Chicago! : ) Kisses for Winnie!!!

  19. Yay! Another awesome vlog! I just love your vlogs! Thank you for vlogging on the weekends! It’s great to get to see you and Don and Winnie 🙂
I do quite enjoy your every day life too – I have gone back to watch some of the special daily vlogs (like Vlogust, and Vlogtober) where you are just doing every day things – it’s nice to see you do all of the little every day things, but I agree with you vlogging every day on a regular basis is tooooo much work and too much of an invasion of privacy, so I’m happy to hear that the weekend vlogging is working for you – I think it’s a nice balance 🙂
    Anyway thank you for vlogging!

And OMG you are going to WDW in December! Yayyyyy!! That’s my favorite time of year to go – everything is always so magical at Disney but during the holiday season everything is even more magical! I just love it!! What kind of special tickets did you buy? Any special shows/events? Did you decide which resort you are going to stay at this time?

  20. I so enjoy that you are vlogging again! I am one of those who does like to see the day to day stuff but I am loving your weekend vlogs! Maybe at some point when you are comfortable you can throw in a DITL type of video once in a while? Looks like you have a fun summer planned. I can’t wait to watch!
