Week In Review | June 8 – June 14, 2015

We’ve been enjoying lots of family time lately, especially as the weather gets nicer and we can spend more time outside.  I’d like to share some tidbits from my life last week as well as an accompanying photo recap with selections from my Instagram feed with you.

week in review, summer days

My week started out on a high note with the most incredible pink sun.  Some commented that they believed this was due to fires in Canada.  I thought perhaps it was just because it was particularly hazy that day.  Whatever the reason, it was a sight to behold!  I love starting out my mornings with walks with my pup, Winnie.  Now that it’s heated up, I’ve switched around my usual morning routine where I exercise first to instead walk with her first so we can make the most out of the coolest time of day together.  It turns out to be a nice warm-up, as well!

In addition to enjoying more fresh air with Winnie, I also look forward to dining al fresco during the warmer months.  It’s always an extra special day when I can meet my husband, Don, for lunch.  Just check out that happy face with his awesome sandwich!  Who wouldn’t want to sit across from that smile and enjoy tasty food and beautiful weather together.

week in review summer treats

Eating outside doesn’t just mean at restaurants, of course, but also at home with the family.  We get together with Don’s family about once a week for dinner to catch up.  Last week, Don’s sister Emily, and her husband, Dave, invited us and Don’s parents over for a cookout.  Our niece Gracie has recently developed more of an interest in Winnie and loves to hug her and pet her gently saying how soft she us.  It’s pretty cute!

Warmer weather also means the return of ice cream outings.  Don and I went to Dairy Queen for the first time this year.  My favorite is a swirled waffle cone.  Don prefers the cake cone with just vanilla dipped in chocolate.  Needless to say, we were both in heaven!

On Friday we packed up the car and drove down to St. Louis to visit my brother’s family.  Winnie’s not a huge fan of the five hour car ride, mostly because she’d much rather sit in my lap than her car seat (a Snoozer Luxury Lookout II).  Safety first!  Don and I enjoy listening to audio books together on car rides.  We picked Neil Patrick Harris’s Choose Your Own Autobiography for this trip and loved it.  Listening to this amusing collection of stories, some real, some invented, made the time in the car on an otherwise uneventful journey go by fast!

week in review, st. louis dance recital

I was having such a good time with the family over the weekend that I actually forgot to post these two last photos on Instagram.  The main purpose of our visit was to see our nieces perform in their annual dance recital.  The girls were great and have really grown up over the past year.  I can’t believe how time flies when it comes to watching children grow!  Of course, we ate well over the weekend, as both of our familiesa are fond of sharing good food together.  My brother, Scott, whipped up amazing snacks for us to enjoy before the recital and my Mom made her famous pulled pork and broccoli slaw, which we gobbled up after the show on Saturday night.  There sure are a lot of talented cooks in our family!

I vlogged during our trip if you’re interested in seeing more:

We have a lot more family-related travel planned over the next month or so and I am very much looking forward to spending time with both our immediate and extended clans.  I’d love to know if you have any family reunions or gatherings planned this summer if you care to share.
Happy June!
