We’re smack in the middle of the holiday season and in high gear prepping for Baby Girl’s impending arrival, so there’s been a lot going on around the house this past week. I’d like to share some tidbits from my life last week as well as an accompanying photo recap with selections from my Instagram with you.
I’ve been buzzing around the house on a huge nesting kick getting ready for Baby. Between cleaning through and purging no longer needed/wanted items in the kitchen and mudroom and making space for all of baby’s gear, I’ve been spending quite a bit of time on my feet. There’s nothing quite like taking a breather and putting my feet up with a cup of cocoa and some homemade cookies. My sister-in-law, Emily, provided us with the finskies (as we call them in our family) in the photo on the right above. They’re delicious! My mother-in-law, Suzanne, is coming over this week to teach me how to make this family favorite and I hope to share the recipe with you soon.
In other news, we’ve enjoyed super mild weather over the past week with highs reaching into the 60s over the weekend. While most everyone I know is pretty happy about this, I’m actually a bit bummed to see no snow in the forecast. I’m still hoping for a white Christmas, but it’s looking like it’s going to be more of a green one. I’m sure the snow will come at some point, but there’s something extra special for me about having it around the holidays.
Don and I attended another baby-related class last week, this one in preparation for caring for a newborn. We learned all about different ways to hold the baby, how to diaper, swaddle, bathe, and generally care for an infant in the first few weeks. A lot of this information is common sense, but it was great to be able to practice it in a hands-on setting. It was also fun to watch Don attempt diapering for the first time. 😉 I have no doubt he’ll be a pro in no time. We’re both more than excited to become parents and have all of these experiences with our little one soon.
A lot of my nesting around the house has included continuing to prep for Baby Girl, including opening and sorting all of her gifts and gear, doing all of her washing, and putting things away in her nursery. This is now all possible thanks to the nursery furniture delivery last week. Huzzah! We weren’t sure we would get the furniture before her arrival, but it came in earlier than expected and we’re absolutely delighted with it. I will share a full nursery tour once everything is in place and I’ve put the finishing touches on decor.
In preparation for life with baby, I ordered a Project Life baby kit and accessories for our baby book. Thank you to all who offered such great suggestions! The Project Life album appealed to me the most since it’s extremely customizable but also fairly easy to put together and very personal. I hope to start building it a bit in the next couple of weeks so I have something to start filling in once she’s born. How fun!
Don and I enjoyed seeing friends and family this weekend. On Saturday we drove up to Milwaukee to attend the first birthday party of the daughter of our oldest friends. It’s been so sweet to watch this precious girl grow and we can’t wait until our kiddos can play together! On Sunday, we played Mary and Joseph in the Christmas pageant at church (this version involves a pregnant Mary before the birth of Christ, just in case you’re confused why a 9 month pregnant lady would be cast). Afterwards we caught up with family at lunch out together. It was a full weekend surrounded by loved ones, which is the best kind. ❤︎
I’d love to hear about your week if you care to share.
I hope that you are able to enjoy the spirit of the season spent with loved ones!
