My Week In Review (otherwise known as WIR) posts are just that: a review of my past week. I post an update here every Tuesday sharing some tidbits of my previous week as well as an accompanying photo recap with selections from my Instagram. Here’s the buzz from my week:
I’ve so enjoyed the glorious summer weather out here in sunny Utah! Lately, the days have been hot without being oppressive, and super clear. Dusk has produced some pretty magnificent sunsets. The evenings have been cool, comfortable, and perfect for star gazing or just cuddling with loved ones by the outdoor fireplace. I couldn’t ask for more beautiful weather in one of my all time favorite places with some of my all time favorite people! 🙂
That being said, there has been a summer storm or two every so often, which I personally enjoy. There’s nothing quite like seeing a storm roll in from the mountains! I’ve made good use out of the Eddie Bauer Rainfoil Jacket I hauled from the outlets when I was here this past spring. It is the perfect three season rain jacket and I know I will get a lot of use out of it over the years.
We celebrated a very special birthday last week, as Winnie, our Shih Tzu pup, turned five on August 14. I can’t believe she’s five already! We celebrated the day together with some of her favorite things, including sleeping in and extra long morning snuggles in bed, greeting our friendly farm animal friends on our morning walk, a little taste of ice cream, an extra special treat, and a new toy. Winnie ended the day happy and exhausted back in bed, her most favorite place to be. I love my little angel and count my lucky stars that I am her human “Mommy.”
I stopped into Cost Plus World Market for the first time in ages since I had a coupon. I don’t know why I don’t pop in there more frequently as they have some great finds at reasonable prices. My main purpose for going in was to acquire a new basket to house my knitting projects and accessories in our bedroom at the Utah house. I found the perfect one! The Large Madras Handle Basket is just the right size to fit all I need without taking up too much floor space in our room. I also bought a smaller Natural Oval Jackie Basket for toting things up and down to my target=”_blank”>Loftice (office in a loft), some heavy duty rubber gloves for Don to use when he’s cooking (like for brining and soaking wood for the smoker), some cute and very inexpensive earrings ($5!), and a couple of the Hello Kitty Cupcake Candies Tins I like to empty and clean out to use as small containers for Winnie’s treats in my purses. I also grabbed a bag of the Ghirardelli Intense Dark Midnight Reverie Squares to try. I’ve always preferred milk chocolate but am trying to learn to love the dark variety since it generally is better for you (if you’re going to eat chocolate, that is, which I am 😉 ).
Getting back to the topic of knitting, after a frustrating week of failing to grasp the popcorn/bobble cast on of my latest pattern attempt, the Lauren Cowl from my July KnitCrate subscription, I finally got it! Huzzah! I am now cruising along (which for me means knitting small portions at a rather slow pace). I am very excited about how it is proceeding. It’s nice to be working on a project that is actually doable for me!
Once again, the house is full as of this last weekend, as Don’s sister Emily, her husband, Dave, their sweet baby, Grace, and their Shih Tzu, Yoda, all arrived on Saturday. It’s so nice to be reunited! Suzanne made her famous meatballs with homemade sauce for their welcome dinner. Don actually target=”_blank”>posted a video on this last year if you’re interested in the recipe. We also acquired this super cute mini couch for Gracie to watch her favorite movie, Mary Poppins, in the entertainment room in the basement. How cute is that!
All of the excitement of travel and being in a full house threw Grace off her schedule a bit and after a rough first night and napless day after, the family decided on a very quiet and low key Sunday with leftovers for dinner. Don and I decided it was a good time to go out on a date, so we headed to Park City for dinner at Riverhorse. It was delicious! We couldn’t believe we’d never been before! I highly recommend the trout main course and blueberry cobbler for dessert. Yum!

I hope that wherever you are, that you are able to grab a little sunshine, some fresh air, and time spent with loved ones every day. Take care!
