Week In Review | April 13 – April 19, 2015

Happy Tuesday, friends!  I hope you’re all having a good week so far.  I wanted to share some tidbits from my life last week as well as an accompanying photo recap with selections from my Instagram feed with you.  Here’s the buzz:

Looking over my Instagram feed from last week I noticed the major theme was flowers.  I absolutely love to admire flowers both in the ground outside and in vases in my home.  Spring is an extra special time to appreciate flowers after the long winter months, and I always look forward to the bulbs that pop up and bloom around the neighborhood each year.  The amazing array of colors, shapes, and fragrances are such beautiful gifts from nature.  Seeing the bright, sunny faces of daffodils swaying in the wind never fails to warm my heart.  Needless to say, my dog Winnie and I have been savoring our spring morning walks together.  As much as that girl loves bounding through the snow, she also enjoys sprinting across the park in the grass!

I’ve been posting up a storm here and on YouTube lately, which means lots of computer time, so I enjoy bringing the outside in with fresh flowers in both my kitchen and office. Looking over at these cheery bouquets brings me such joy.  One of my fantasies is to someday have a large cutting garden for perennials where I can grow my own flowers to arrange in my home.  I should work on making that happen!

In the meantime (real time) I’ve really enjoyed my renewed zeal for posting and am having so much fun working with my new posting plan.  I mentioned in that post that I’ve hesitated over the past few months to share my desire for a plan with you in fear of falling short of expectations.  I’ve happily come to realize that you guys are always so flexible and supportive with whatever kind of posting schedule (or anti-schedule) I choose to follow, and I am so grateful for that.  I love the idea of posting seven days a week, but sadly there isn’t really enough time in the day to do so!  I’m hoping to work on getting ahead with my posts and finding a nice groove with my work to be able to keep up with how much I want to share.  I am sharing this with you, because I feel it’s important to let you know how jazzed I am about my content lately (and yes, I just used the word jazzed, LOL).  I am continually surprised (and delighted!) by the sweet and supportive comments about how much you enjoy my content.  They totally fuel the fire!  Thank you!

Speaking of feeling jazzed, the Tone It Up 2015 Bikini Series launched last week and I jumped right in!  One of the perks of being a Tone It Up member is receiving lifetime updates and additions to the nutrition plan.  The 8 week Bikini Program is awesome!  I’m not strictly following it, but have definitely incorporated some of the meal and snack ideas in with my current attempts to trim down from winter and tone up for summer.  I love the new Beach Babe 3 DVD and am thoroughly enjoying adding the included workouts to my fitness rotation.  Getting back into running and trying new things like spinning is also helping me stay motivated and excited.

I actually filmed a Week In My Life vlog style video sharing my Bikini Series Week #1 experience, including all of my workouts and nutrition.  This ended up being a much longer video that I anticipated, but that’s because I vlogged every single day.  If you’re interested in seeing everything fitness and food related from the last week, here it is:

As you can probably tell from my content lately, I’m feeling so refreshed and I think the season is playing a big part in that.  I would love to hear from you if you care to share how the spring season refreshes you.
Wishing you all a sunshiney day!

  1. I’ve been looking forward to your WIR post all morning! All of your content, brings so much joy to my day. You are truly my favorite youtuber to see popup in my subscription feed! Have an awesome week! 🙂

  2. I’m curious about the apple cider vinegar shot you take in the morning. I know you said you see the benefit in your skin – how much do you take?

      1. Hi Jen, any kind of vinegar ingested (even diluted) can cause acid reflux. Some side effects are chest pain, etc. I don’t know if you ever suffered from Gerd or acid reflux but just keep it in mind. I know you have been doing this for awhile but just wanted to share that info with you. Have a great spring day!

  3. a few years back you did a video on your running story. i would love to hear your yoga story….how/why did you start, when, and if you have any advice for yogi wannabees? thanks for considering my request, jen! 😀

  4. Thanks for sharing such a comprehensive look at your food and fitness for the week! I love these kinds of posts / videos, especially since I’m also doing a modified version of the Tone It Up Bikini Series plan. I’m a little behind though, about to do my run and HIIT workout right now! I have a couple of food suggestions if you’re interested:
Love Crunch granola (I get mine at Whole Foods and the Dark Chocolate Macaroon and Aloha Blend flavors are amazing)
Trader Joe’s Reduced Guilt Pita Chips w/Sea Salt (so good with their White Bean & Basil hummus)
Love finding ‘healthier’ snack options 😉 Hope you continue sharing in vlogs like these!

  5. Love your post Jen!! It didn’t feel like a long video at all 🙂 By the way, do you use the Perfect Fit protein powder in a blender or in a shaker bottle? How’s the consistency?

    1. I’ve used it in both but lately just with the shaker bottle since I’m not making smoothies at the moment. It takes a lot of shaking to get it all incorporated!

  6. Lovely week in review!
iI love the flowers, so beautiful nd so colore!
    Thank you for sharing.
I m going to check your video straight now.
    Wish you a wonderful wednesday!

  7. I just wanted to pop in and tell you that I really enjoyed this week’s vlog topic and format! Ordinarily the spring season sparks a dietary and lifestyle reset of sorts for my husband and I, but at eleven weeks pregnant I’m dealing with all manner of food aversions and cravings so it’s been a bit of a challenge to get back into those healthy habits. I’m also a Tone It Up member and had planned to do the Bikini Series this year to slim down a bit after a tough winter, but apparently life had other plans. Instead I’ve been trying to surround myself with more healthy inspiration so seeing a week of (realistic!) healthy eats and fitness from you was very well timed. Thanks again for sharing and I look forward to seeing how the rest of the Bikini Series goes for you!

      1. Thank you! That tough winter I had hoped to bounce back from kicked off with a pregnancy loss, so despite the (totally manageable) challenges I am thrilled to be expecting again!

  8. Hey jen I’m recently getting into running as I find it great for stress relief any tips on getting started again running if you haven’t ran in a couple years

  9. Hi Jen!

What a nice, refreshing post. I also think this time of the year is perfect for touching things up, whether it be fitness and nutrition, organizing, or beautifying your home. I’m looking forward to watching to seeing more spring vlogs, I love seeing what you do in and out of your home! And flower shots are always appreciated 🙂

    Take care,

  10. Hi Jen!
I wanted to thank you for sharing your tips and tricks on decluttering your wardrobe, accessories, shoes, toiletries and makeup! I’m officially finished my two first quarters of university, and I now have 4 months off and can’t wait to undertake some new projects with my blog and new YouTube channel. I’m also really excited to be working on decluttering my own clothes, accessories, makeup, toiletries, shoes, etc… and I’m thinking of somehow sharing my process with you (and maybe others, too!), but I’m feeling a little intimidated and shy about doing so! Do you have any advice or suggestions? I’m thinking of joining the beauty/lifestyle community, as it seems very nice and down-to-earth, especially your channel! You mentioned in both your video and your blog post, your skincare routine and how you have dealt with different skin-related issues over the years. You also mentioned how important it is to take care of your skin, and I agree with you 110%. Later this year, I will be turning 21 and I’ve realized how lucky I’ve been not to have any major, awful acne breakouts, since I was in my early teens (13/14 yrs. old) and by researching videos on YouTube, I have noticed how important it is to take care of your skin, especially as you age. My only skin issues is eczema, and I have found discovered my symptoms of it, what to do, and how to treat it. I also wanted to thank you for the advice you gave to a subscriber on how to ease back into running. It’s greatly appreciated!
Take care and have an awesome week!

  11. I’m a little behind in my video watching but I still wanted to say how much I enjoyed not just a week in your life video (which are my fav style of videos – the vlogs with Winnie and Don cameos :)), but also getting a peak into the Tone it Up program!
Thanks for sharing your meals – it has given me some great ideas and inspiration on getting back to healthier eating too. I’m the worst at having sweats, and unlike you I can’t stop at just a 150 calorie sweet treat… sigh… but I think if I try to eat more balanced healthy snacks/meals like you do then I probably will feel fullers and be able to control my cravings better – thanks for the inspiration!
And hearing about your workouts have inspired me to get working out again too! Haha, I’m just like you – I sweat a TON and get bright red too when I run or do cardio!
This was one of my favorite videos! Thanks so much Jen!!

    1. I have issues with overeating sweets when I get in a pattern with it. I find that after just a few days of being really strict I no longer crave them as much and am satisfied with just a little something each day or a bigger things once a week.

  12. Hi Jen, great video! I recently got into the Braggs ACV as well. I learned this great drink this past week: 1-2 tablespoons ACV, ice, sparkling water, mint leaves mashed up like you would do for a mojito, and stevia powder. I really like it – so refreshing! Thanks for sharing!

    1. It’s a Precor that we’ve had for over 8 years now. I’m pretty sure our model has been discontinued. It’s held up great!
