Tone It Up Maaji Swimwear Haul

I was so excited when Tone It Up announced their collaboration with Maaji Swimwear.  I knew I was probably going to buy at least one of their custom pieces.  I majorly purged my bikini collection last spring after holding onto some not so flattering suits for well over eight years.  I was looking for the right fit for a long time (bathing suit shopping is tough stuff!) when I came across the Maaji brand after Tone It Up released their first Beach Babe workout DVD last spring.  I purchased my first Maaji bikini soon after and absolutely love it!  It fits my body so well, which is really saying something.

In order to emphasize my enthusiasm for this swimwear line, I’m going to divulge a little known fact about me: I’m not a big fan of wearing swimsuits.  I’ve been very shy about exposing my body to such an extent in public since I was a teenager.  I don’t mind rocking a short dress or sleeveless tops, but there’s something about the exposure of a bikini that makes me want to sink under my towel and hide.  I work hard to be fit and stay healthy, but it’s still not easy being out and about in a bikini.  After two decades of uncertainty (hello teens and twenties!) I’m finally getting to a much more accepting and comfortable place with my body on a personal level.  I still can’t shake the desire to cover up when I’m out in a two piece in public, though.  I just feel exposed and maybe a little bit vulnerable, I guess.  Unfortunately, I’ve never been able to pull off a one piece due to my extremely short torso and womanly curves.  I never really have much of an issue with bikini tops, but the bottoms?  That’s another story.

That’s where Maaji Swimwear has come to my rescue.  These bottoms fit me!  Hold on, let me say that properly…. THESE BOTTOMS FIT ME!  There, that’s better! 😉 The bottoms don’t pinch or sag.  They fit snug around my curves without feeling oddly loose in some places and tight (or lacking material!) in others as is the case with other swimsuits I’ve tried.  Yes, they are pricey, but they are so worth it to me.  I’d personally rather have a few nicer bikinis that actually fit me and are made well than a dozen less expensive ones that I despise.  Each of the Maaji bikinis I have are reversible, which is an awesome built in two-for-one deal!  They’re also extremely well made, which means they’ll stand up to the test of time.  If I can keep some of my cheaper bikinis in good shape for over five years, I imagine I can get a lot of wear out of my Maaji’s.

I purchased two suits from Tone It Up’s line, including Mermaid Pearl and Petals & Polkadots.  I love how I can interchange all four pieces since they use elements of the same fabrics.  The reverse side of each piece is made with the same fabric as well.  I have eight different ways to wear just two suits!  They even coordinate with the suit I bought (through Zappos) last summer.  Each bikini came with a Maaji Bikini Bag (pictured above), which is handy for travel or a day at the pool when dealing with a wet suit.  You can also use these zip-top vinyl envelopes to protect valuables like your phone or camera from potential water damage in your beach bag.  I purchased my two bikinis when Tone It Up was still offering a free starfish necklace with each purchase (I am uncertain if this deal is still available).  They also threw in a pineapple lip balm for free.  Sweet!

I wear a medium in Maaji tops and a large in their bottoms.  I usually fit into mediums for both tops and bottoms in other swimwear lines.

I also picked up their seahorse necklace.  At just $19 I thought it was a cute and affordable summer piece to add to my jewelry collection.  Both the seahorse and starfish necklaces are dainty, which I prefer for my jewelry, but they still stand out in a fun, girly way to accentuate summer outfits.  Because they are inexpensive (and free in the case of the starfish one!), I’d feel comfortable wearing these necklaces for an afternoon at the beach on Lake Michigan or for a boating outing out on the reservoir in Utah without fear of damaging or losing one of my more expensive pieces.

I love both of my new Tone It Up Maaji suits and I couldn’t be happier for the Tone It Up Girls, Karena & Katrina, and their growing fitness and well-being community!  I love seeing their smiling faces on the tags of my new bikinis.  It just goes to show you what passion, determination, and commitment can yield.  I remember when they released their first DVD a few years ago.  Whenever I work out with One Day Fat Blast I can’t help but notice how far they’ve come, but more importantly, how they’ve managed to remain true to themselves throughout their journey.  They are a pair of sweetly fierce and encouragingly upbeat ladies!  I always look forward to what they surprise us with and am happy to support their brand and business on their journey.  It’s not hard when it includes learning awesome new workout routines, trying out tasty and healthy recipes, and acquiring some pretty cute swimwear that actually FITS!  Here’s to gaining confidence both inside and out and feeling comfortable in my own skin at the pool, which is much easier when it’s clad in Maaji bikinis. 🙂

  1. Isn’t having a short torso fun??? (Said no one EVER) 🙂 I deal with the same thing! Those suits, though…so cute + good quality + good fit = great deal! Don’t you love it when you find something that works so well, after settling for less? You have my admiration for finding a way of conquering the “wearing a bikini in public” demon! 🙂

  2. Jen,

I am happy that you found something that makes you feel good, I know how hard it is. I have the opposite problem I have always been big and I have a long torso to boot so I was never able to find much of anything to fit. Today at 53 I am in a wheelchair due to paraplegia from back surgery and I still have trouble with finding things to fit that is comfortable sitting all day. Life is just so strange sometimes in the ways just a small thing can make us so happy and make a different in how we feel about ourselves and our lives. Have a great 4th and can’t wait to see the next videos of the prep and party.

Thank you for sharing this. I’ve recently ordered a Maaji bikini but im now worried i’ve ordered the wrong size. I’ve ordered a large in bottoms and top. I’m a uk 34C and a UK 10 in bottoms. do you think this will fit? or do you think it will be too big? Many thanks 🙂 xx

  6. Have you got any reviews of the current bikinis they offer on tone it up? I’m not sure if the cheeky bottoms would be too revealing for me

  7. Hi I realize I’m late to this post, but what hip measurement were you?? I measure at 40, but can’t decide if I should get a medium or large bottom?
