The Beauty Buzz: March 2014

Hi Beauties! March has been all about taupes and bolder lashes for me. I’ve been enjoying switching up my beauty routine as we transition into spring. I share my favorite beauty products from the past month in the video below, including makeup, nail polish, and fragrance:

I would love to know what some of your go-to beauty products were last month if you care to share! 🙂

  1. Hi Jane,
Hope you’re fine. I have just finished to watch your new video. And it is great as usual. Stay as you’re are.
I was wondering how long you are continuing using your make up. In fact in the beginning you said that you have the naked palet #2 since around 18 months but the date of peremption is 12 months according to the back ( I have the naked palet# 1 and the back indicates 12 months).
It can be great to have a video on this matter. In fact I watch a lot of you tube video with girls with a make up collection? But they do not advice how long they keep their make up.
It seems for a mascara the date of peremption is between 3 and 4 months.
What is your point of view on that?
    Thanks a lot
    Take care.
    Have a nice week end
    Pascale

    1. I think this is an individual preference sort of thing. I personally am fine with most of my dry makeup lasting years. I usually just determine what seems fine to me and what doesn’t by look and smell. I discard used mascara the most frequently since its smell and texture changes the most rapidly in my experience. That’s why I try to keep only a couple open at a time so as not to waste them. I’ve had some powder eyeshadows for years and they seem just fine to me. I suggest doing whatever makes you feel the most comfortable.

  2. Just came over to your blog to see close-ups of the lipstick swatches but there’s no pictures in this post; is this right as you usually have tons of pictures in your posts and all I can see is the affiliate links? Or is the page just not loading correctly for me?

    1. I don’t typically take swatch photos because I am rubbish at it and there are so many others out there who do it brilliantly. If there is interest, however, I will consider working on it and including swatches in future posts.

  3. Thank you for sharing! I absolutely love the Naked 2 palette. I used it as my only large palette between Christmas 2012 and 2013 when I received the Lorac Pro and Naked 3 palettes. My personal faves from N2 are the color verve (already purchased a single in that shade since I hit pan) and tease. Glad you’re enjoying it!

  4. Hey Jen!
I was just thinking – while watching your video, loved it btw 🙂 – if you maybe could do a sort of “beauty fails” video…or: if you would’nt do that…why? Do you only want to talk about positive things or is it that you just don’t “not like” any of the products that you buy?

I thought this could be very informative, as you try out many things and form an opinion before buying your make up (as you’ve said in the video).

Take care, thank you for sharing! 🙂

    1. To be honest, there aren’t many products that I try and do not like. Of course, I choose to share my favorites in my monthly video, but I do mention from time to time when I’m not overly keen on something, like the L’Oreal Butterfly Mascara from this month.

  5. I’d love to see some drugstore looks. Most of the other stuff you use is out of my price range but I we both have brown hair and eyes so I always love to see what you do.

  6. I’m all about Bite right now (sold only at Sephora). I was looking for a good matte lip crayon and couldn’t find the right NARS shade so one of the lovely women at Sephora told me about Bite. Their products are food grade, natural and the lip crayons smell like oranges because they use citrus peel. I bought the Clementine shade and LOVED it–so I went back and bought the Sweety shade as well as the Agave Lip Mask. New favorite lip items hands down!

  7. Hey there beauty. Just to tell you I placed a order with Sigma & using the code you supplied I got $41.28 discount 🙂 so that was pretty awesome. I also placed an order with L’Occitane, I actually treated myself to the Pivoine Flora Beauty cream & the Pivoine Shower Gel as well as many other more items – I’m pretty excited to receive that order! I looked for the mask that you picked up to try, but I couldn’t find it at Sephora.ca or at Amazon 🙁 so that was too bad. My skin has issues & tends to get angry pretty easy – I was hoping to try that mask to see if it would calm it down. Anyway, I did order Immortelle Cleansing Foam & the Immortelle Prcious Protection from L’Occitane – I have high hopes as their products are so nice. I’ll let you know what I think 😉
So needless to say, while sitting in my office this weekend I managed to put a pretty good hit on my Visa 😉
I also picked up a few things from Amazon. I’m trying the Clarisonic Pedi – it has gotten good reviews & I thought it would be nice through the summer months. I also purchased another Clarisonic Mia 2 – to bring to our summer cabin (rather then transport my home one forward & back) It was thanks to you that I purchased my first one & I love it. My skin has been much better since I’ve been using it. I think everyone should have one!
So thanks for all the useful tips you give us! It’s just really great! 😀
    Have yourself a good week!
    Shaunie
Ps: I’ll have to look back at your video explaining the care of the Sigma brushes I have coming. 🙂

  8. I’m pleased to see you trying the Dr. Hauschka toner. I had recently encouraged you to consider this line when you received a different facial oil in one of your subscription boxes. I too am not keen on the scent of the toner, but like you I find it quickly dissipates. I have naturally oily/combination skin and am a for-life convert of Dr. H products. I hope you find the courage to try the facial oil and give it an honest trial. It will change how you do facial skin care forever. Here’s my routine as a potential starting point…

    Morning:
Dip washcloth in to basin of warm water with a couple of squirts of Lavender Bath in it and compress to face for 15-30 seconds.
Use Cleansing Cream on face and neck. Rinse with Lavender Bath water.
    Spray with Clarifying Toner
Apply Normalizing Day Oil. Dr. H believes that by applying oil to an oily face that the skin will respond by cutting back on oil production (treating like with like). I have absolutely found this to be the case after a few week transition period.
Optional: Daily Revitalizing Eye Cream and Lip Care Stick.

    Evening:
    Wash face with Cleansing Milk.
    Lip Balm.
That’s it for night. Dr. H believes your skin needs to breathe at night and that it know’s how to restore itself.

    Every three-four months:
Apply a dose of Rhythmic Night Conditioner to face for 30 nights.

I have absolutely no affiliation with Dr. Hauschka. I began using their products about 9-10 years ago (had previously used Clinique and Oil of Olay products). It was a huge shift for me because of the expense; I spend very little money on makeup and beauty products.

I know you say (and I agree) it’s only acne and there are bigger things in life to be concerned with. But at the age of 52 I have found clear healthy skin to be a great beauty confidence booster.

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. An additional note: I use the Rhythmic Night Conditioner the months of seasonal changes. It feels very honoring of the change of seasons… which I love doing… and know you appreciate seasonal living as well.

  9. Hi Jen
    Nice beauty haul!

Here are some of my spring favs:

Just like you I have the l’occitane peony products – love it

I also just picked up a few new Tom Ford lipsticks ..
His lip products are amazing, Btw I have a few Dior addict lipsticks as well, and TF is much better! do try if you have not already

I go to Bliss Spa at The W hotel where I live about every other month — and always end up with lots of Bliss goodies to take home — the lemon + sage body butter is a standout fav.

My fav new scent is Dolce by Dolce and Gabana. It’s very feminine and lush. Defined by a white flower from south Africa that’s never been used in a perfume before. (I love that, smiling)

Lastly, Right now Im burning my SPRING candle from BBW at the office. And JAPANESE CHERRY BLOSSOM at home.
Which is very timely – as I live in DC where the real Cherry Blossoms are just about to peak!

    Spring has definitely arrived!

Its my FAV TIME OF YEAR!!
Hope you are enjoying the season as well 🙂

    1. Loved reading your faves! I have been hearing about TF a lot lately but I’ve never actually seen them in store. I’d be nervous buying a brand I’ve never had before without seeing it in person first.

  10. Hey Jen,

One of the newer products to recently hit stores that I am loving this spring is the Estée Lauder pure color envy lipstick, (what a mouthful). I’ve got two shades in iressistable and intense nude–these lipsticks are amazing and no one on YouTube is talking about them…so I thought I’d turn to you for your take. Another recent find that I love is the Bobbi brown long lasting art stick in cherrywood. It really lasts forever…I can’t believe no one is talking about it either… Well, I guess I wound up discussing two products I love…please, review them so others notice them and love them too!

    Happy Saturday,
    De
