The Beauty Buzz: June 2014

Hi beauties!  I’m having so much fun playing with the beauty products I hauled recently.  Summer is the perfect time to try out new colors!  In this post I share my favorite beauty products from the past month, including makeup, nail polish, fragrance, and some skincare products.

Makeup

OJ_TBBB_07-03-2014_03
Shiseido Pureness Oil-Control Blotting Paper – What would I do without blotting paper?  I just don’t know!  It’s the perfect quick fix for oily skin and helps keep my shine under control.

✻ Dior Diorskin Nude BB Cream in #3 Medium & It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream in Medium – I’ve loved both of these products individually for awhile, but now I am enjoying combining them for the perfect summer face base makeup.  I use one pump of each for lightweight, medium coverage.

✻ Sephora Pro Flawless Airbrush #56 – My current favorite brush for applying the aforementioned face products.  This brush does with trick without swallowing up so much of the product in the bristles.

Too Faced Sun Bunny Natural Bronzer – I finally have enough color on my face to pull off this bronzer.  It has a beautiful, subtle sheen to it that adds dimension.  Word to the wise: a little goes a long way!

✻ Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Luminous Flush & Dim Infusion – I know I talked about these blushes last month, but I had to mention them again because I am obsessed!  Both shades offer a stunning glow.  I use Dim Infusion more for everyday looks and Luminous Flush for evenings out.

OJ_TBBB_07-03-2014_01✻ Too Faced A La Mode Eyes – This has been my go-to palette for the last month.  I decided to pick it up since I love the Natural Eyes palette so much.  This one is the perfect summer compliment!  I love how soft and blendable the shadows are.

✻ Sigma Highlight Duo in Bring To Light – As much as I love the Too Faced palette, it doesn’t come with a matte highlight shade, which I like to use in combination with shimmery lid colors.  I love using this gorgeous soft peachy nude duo from Sigma for my brow highlight.

✻ Be A Bombshell Lash Out Mascara – I received this mascara in my June Ipsy bag.  I was skeptical at first, because it doesn’t indicate whether or not it’s water resistant and I generally prefer those formulas to avoid smudging and fallout.  This mascara works perfectly!  My favorite thing about it is that it doesn’t clump.  Huzzah!

OJ_TBBB_07-03-2014_02Tarte Lipsurgence Power Pigment in Tipsy – I love Tarte beauty products, so you can imagine my excitement when I saw this lip crayon in my PopSugar Must Have Special Edition Summer Box.  This beautiful coral pink shade is perfect for summer and pairs beautifully with a wide range of gloss shades.

✻ Buxom Full-Bodied Lip Gloss in Sweet Thing – I’ve been into more raspberry tones lately for a fun pop of color.  This hot pink gloss fits the bill!

✻ Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Nicole – I’ve been a big fan of the Full-On lip polishes for years now.  This strawberry-hued beauty packs a punch with lots of shimmer!

✻ Bite Beauty Lush Lip Tint in Orchard – I just realized I talked about this lip tint in my May Beauty Buzz, as well.  That’s how much I like it!  It’s the perfect pop of color with a moisturizing, balm-like formula.

Fragrance & Nails

OJ_TBBB_07-03-2014_04✻ Smell Bent St Tropez Dispenser Eau de Parfum – Yet another repeat offender, this perfume is my absolute obsession this summer!  It is the quintessential summer scent to me with “notes of jasmine, fresh coconut, aloe vera and vintage musk.”  I can’t get enough of it!

✻ Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Nail Polish in Pool Boy – I’ve been painting my nails quite a bit lately with fun summery shades.  Out of all of those beauties, this polish stands out as my favorite.  Yet another PopSugar Must Have Box acquisition, this gorgeous bright blue paints like a dream and is so vibrant on the nail.  You can see it on my nails here if you’d like.

Skincare

OJ_TBBB_07-03-2014_05Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar – I’ve been struggling with acne over the past year and while most of the time I do my best to not let it bother me, every once in awhile I get frustrated by it.  I’m only human, right?  Well, I was feeling particularly fed up one day a few months ago and turned to YouTube for some new skincare ideas.  That’s when I stumbled across BYoonique and her  target=”_blank”>video about apple cider vinegar.  I’ve gone through phases of taking it internally before, but never thought to use it on my skin.  Currently I do both and feel like it’s really helping to clear up my breakouts faster.  It’s important to use the organic, raw, and unfiltered vinegar, because it contains the most beneficial properties.  I drink one tablespoon of vinegar diluted in eight ounces of water every morning.  It’s not only good for the skin, but also helps with digestion as well.

Heritage Store Rosewater & Glycerin – I follow Yoon’s advice and combine equal parts apple cider vinegar and rosewater & glycerin to make my own toner, which I use both morning and night.  It’s important to shake this up well before each use.  The combination doesn’t smell terrific, although I find the scent dissipates after a few moments.  I feel like this toner is really helping to balance my skin!  I also like to use the rosewater & glycerin spray on its own for a quick skin pick-me-up.

Bioderma Crealine TS H20 Micelle Solution – I’ve used Bioderma as a secondary makeup remover for awhile now, but only recently started using it as my primary makeup remover when I ran out of my favorite face wipes a few weeks ago.  I actually prefer this now to my beloved wipes!  It removes my makeup effectively and leaves my skin feeling clean without any residue.

  1. Per your advice i’ve been using BB cream instead of foundation and works perfectly. Thank you Jen for doing these reviews.

  2. Hi jen !
    Love you videos !!
I am 48 and sorry to say have been dealing with acne which q feels like my whole life,
I have done tons of research ,been to doctors
And tried just about everything out there.
I do find that change of season plays a role in my breakouts.
Do you get facials ? Mild peels and microdermabrasion really helps
But can be very costly, I do think giving up somethings may be worth the payoff.
Also , coconut oil is awesome ..I use it every night , it helps heal the skin…
Next time you are in sephora check out dermdoctor I have been using the cleaner and it really helps
My diet plays a huge role too ,too much sugar and cheese break me out
Just remember less is more …!too many products confuse your skin .. Keep it simple
As a side note the hourglass blushes are awesome , try mood exposure , you will love it !!
    Beth

  3. Thanks as always for the generous giveaway Jen! The scents that make me think of summer are lemon and watermelon. Coconut too, probably because of sun tan lotion, etc. made with it..

  4. Jen, I adore you. But I’m FLOORED that you let your skin get so much sun exposure! Considering you put so much effort into healthy living and taking care of yourself!

Live and let live, I say, so if y enjoy it, go for it. It’s just sooooo inconsistent with the feast of your style!

Ps: for those who say a tan is healthy, as long as it’s not a burn or that they put on sunscreen and still get s tan…don’t kid yourself. Any change in skin colour is your body displaying skin damage. Jusding by how dark you get you have a lot of damage this year already (:

Be careful! And good luck keeping wrinkles at bay!

    1. I wear spf every day and always a hat when running but I still get color. I always have and I always will – it’s just my skin tone. Even on vacation we always sit in the shade (except when swimming of course). Alas, I enjoy being outside too much to give up enjoying the beautiful weather just because I am afraid of wrinkles 🙂

      1. Then you aren’t wearing enough sunscreen! ” it’s just my skin tone” is exactly what I meant by people making excuses. You are obviously getting uv exposure for your skin to be changing Color!

Your skin, so of course if you enjoy being tanned, go for it!

But tanning of EVERY sort, including the way you get sun…is still tanning and oh so so so bad for you

  5. I never mentioned giving g up the beautiful weather. Just giving up the tanning. Covering up and proper use of sunscreen and your skin would not be changing colors. That’s just science, not “it’s my skin tone”.

I’m just shocked that of all the healthy choices you make and push for organic and what not that you making the very unhealthy choice of tanning.

    To each is own!

  6. Thanks for a great video Jen! I love your hair, skin and makeup in this video!

Thank you so much for sharing about the apple cider vinegar for your skin! I too have rather oily skin and get acne breakouts regularly (which you’re right, we do all feel self conscious about our acne at different times), so I will give this a try too and hopefully I will see the same great results!
I use apple cider vinegar diluted mixture for my hair, as a rinse to keep it shiny and smooth and it works great for that too! I have tired drinking a mixture first thing in the morning too but I didn’t find that had any benefits for myself personally so I stopped because it really does taste yucky!

The St Tropaz Dispenser perfume sounds awesome! I will have to try it out too as I am looking for a summer perfume and don’t like anything too heavy!

  7. Gosh two scents that really scream summer to me are the smell of certain sunscreens (especially the creamy high SPF ones that I only use in summer like Water Babies, etc.) and chlorine. I guess that’s what happens when you grow up surrounded by the ocean and lots of tropical scents year-round!

  8. Are the products you use and recommend cruelty free and have the bunny stamp of approval, along with all natural and organic?

  9. Your youtube reviews are fabulous! Thank you so much for sharing! I started subscribing to a few box subscriptions because of your reviews. Bragg apple cider vinegar is amazing..I tried it out for my skin last summer and it seems to help!

  10. Reading book on my balcony with a cup of coffee and a bowl of ice cream by my side. Don’t know but I relly like reading outdoors and that is something I miss during the winter.
