The Bag Buzz | Jetsetter Mini Convertible Backpack

I’ve been promising this Bag Buzz post for awhile now, since I’ve shown the bag in my last few Favorites posts.  Without further ado, allow me to introduce…

…the lovely Jetsetter Mini Convertible Backpack from Henri Bendel!  I purchased this bag last December and have worn everyday since.  I got into the backpack purse craze years ago when I used to wear a Longchamp backpack, but then I was more into tote style purses and more recently medium-sized crossbody bags.  Backpack purses apparently came back into vogue in the last year (I’m just guessing here, I really don’t know for a fact, but I’ve been seeing them everywhere) and I was reintroduced to wearing the style with my beautiful Mulberry Mini Cara Delevigne bag last fall.  Carrying a backpack purse has both its pros and cons, and the style is certainly an individual taste sort of thing.  I personally really enjoy the total hands-free experience of a bag thats weight is equally distributed across my back and shoulders.

I lusted after the original (larger) Jetsetter backpack as soon as it came out (early last year or around then, if I’m not mistaken), but it was just too big for my needs and didn’t suit my frame well.  I told myself that I would spring for it only if they came out with a smaller version.  I can’t tell you how excited I was when they finally did late last year!  It’s the absolute perfect size for me at 10.5″ high x 11″ wide x 5″ deep.  I wear mine solely as a backpack, although the straps are convertible so you can wear it on your shoulder or crossbody style.  The handles have a 5″ drop and each backpack strap is adjustable to up to 30″.  I keep mine on at the shortest length possible, because it’s the most comfortable on my back that way.

All of the bags from the Jetsetter collection from Henri Bendel feature a durable, water resistant nylon fabric with saffiano leather trim.  The mini backpack has a ziptop closure with snaps to hold together the handles.  Unlike my Mulberry Cara Delevigne bag the Jetsetter’s straps are more stiff and stay upright without needing the closure, which I like.  There is a small slip pocket on both the front and back exterior.  My iPhone fits perfectly inside the back exterior pocket (it’s an iPone 5S with a Rifle Paper Co Clear Rosa Case).  The black backpack features gold-toned hardware, including a decorative padlock.

The interior of the backpack is quite roomy and flexible thanks to the vibrant royal purple satin lining.  I can comfortably fit all of my usual everyday purse things in the bag, including my vlogging camera (a Sony RX1003) and case (not pictured).  I like that all of my things easily fit inside this bag without a lot of extra room for them to flop around.  Like I said, it’s the perfect size to me.  The bag includes a zip pocket on the back interior and a phone sized slip pocket on the front interior.  While there is no included key fob, I use the cross body d-rings, which are tucked just under the zipper on the interior of the bag when not in use, to hang my keys.

As usual, I will share the contents of my purse with you despite the fact that they are the same month after month.  I don’t switch these items up very often.  I may change my bags out with some frequency, but I like to keep the contents more or less the same.

1. Orla Kiely Graphite Small Cosmetic Cube – My current Walking Pharmacy, this Target exclusive has great organizational elements built right in. Still available in a different printInterestingly, it seems they are discontinuing this line at Target, although I just noticed Ulta started carrying Orla Kiely makeup bags.  They don’t have this exact style listed on their website right now, but maybe they will in the future.
2. Vinyl Zip Pouch with Coupons – Exact one shown is no longer available but I also like this alternative from The Container Store.
3. Green Hearts Smart Shopper – Having a fold-up reusable tote in my bag comes in handy in a pinch.
4. Lunchskins Snack Bag – I like keeping a snack on hand & this little reusable (and washable!) pouch is perfectly sized to hold my favorite trail mix or other small snacks.
5. Two Pocket Card Holder from ATime4Everything on Etsy – A great way to cut down on bulky card cases!  I stow gift cards and store cards in mine.  My pocket card holder is pretty stuffed so I keep it together with a Mane Message hair tie (also great to have on hand).
6. Henri Bendel Mind Your Business Case – I keep my business cards in this beauty.
7. A small tin filled with treats for my pup, Winnie, and poopy bags.
8. Mulberry Bow ID Purse (no longer available) – My favorite wallet!  Perfectly sized to carry in smaller bags.
9. Car keys with my favorite Henri Bendel Bow Stripe Key Fob and Swiss Army Knife (this has come in so handy over the years!) & my house keys on a keychain sent from a viewer in Malaysia.
10. TicTacs & Bach Rescue Remedy Pastilles – One for fresh breath & the other is meant to soothe.

The Jetsetter Mini Backpack served me well this winter and I have so enjoyed carrying it for the past three months.  I’ve actually just switched out to Beauty, my Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandoulière 25, for spring (and yes, this bag is so gorgeous she deserved a name 😉 ).  I’ll miss using my Jetsetter until next time!

I would love to know what bag you’re currently loving and carrying or just lusting after, if you care to share.  Handbag lovers unite!

  1. Hi Jen,

I bought this bag right after you did. I Love it! I took mine to Disney and it worked out great.
I’m changing out to a different bag also. Ready for lighter Spring color. I am always excited to see your
    New handbags. Keep them coming..

  2. I miss your videos, Jen! How come you didn’t do the bag buzz or the book nook as a video? Bring back the videos!! 🙂

      1. I totally understand. 🙂 Just wanted you to know how much I love your videos. Keep ’em coming (when you are ready and in the mood).

  3. I’ve been coveting a Kate Spade Saturday Zipline Crossbody bag but it doesn’t come in any dark colours. Lately, I’ve been finding that I get a really sore shoulder from crossbody bags and I’ve been looking for a backpack. I’m so glad you did this post because I think this might be the perfect bag for me! I love that it is so versatile and the perfect size. I think every girl deserves at least one designer item and I think this is the one for me 🙂

  4. I really like this bag,the design is really lovely and I think it looks really comfortable to bear and use.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Have a great week!

  5. I picked up a small faux leather backpack at the end of last autumn and it’s still seeing me through. OK, it’s certainly not as luxe as your beauty, but it certainly does the job! I love cross body bags like yourself but backpacks just offer so much more. I can just throw it on and go, great for when I’m out and about and want to be able to use my hands without my bag getting in the way. You can fit so much in such a small bag, it’s brilliant. The only downside is it’s not the most practical at times, especially if you’re out shopping!

  6. Dear Jen, I also have this bag and love it. I used it for about a month and changed it out for my Michael Kors that I like for the colder months. Now it is spring and I have 2 other bags I go between. I find that I carry my Jetsetter backpack by the handle more than I wear it, I also do not use the back pocket for my phone, Im to afraid it could fall out and $500.00 is alot of money for a cell phone. Cant wait to use this bag for my upcoming trip to Universal Studios in May!

  7. I have been using the Henri Bendel Blue Ombré Large Satchel since Valentine’s day. It was a gift from my hubby and I love it. The light blue color reminds me of spring. It has a ton of room in it. However, I have been eyeing the mini-jetsetter for travel. They had it in pink but I think it is sold out now….decisions, decisions!

    1. Hi Camilla – they look lovely! While anyone is welcome to send me anything they’d like to my public mailing address, I don’t actually guarantee reviews in exchange for gifted products. If you’d like to talk more about my gifted product policy, please email me at jennifer@prettyneatliving.com.

  8. Hi Jen,

Your article is great! I recently got the Mini Jetsetter in baby blue. I was just curious if you knew how to clean them? Baby blue is hard to keep clean.

    Megan

    1. I haven’t had an issue with mine getting dirty just yet. I’d call Henri Bendel customer service for their advice before applying a cleaning agent to the nylon.

  9. I am obsessed with this bag. I love the three ways to where it option but want to know about the quality as i have never purchased anything from henri bendel before. It seems like you have been using it a lot, has it been holding up well? No issues with the straps falling apart or stitching coming undone?

  10. Hi Jen! I love this bag but am torn between the mini and regular size jetsetter. Do you find the mini is large enough to hold everything you show or could you use the extra room the regular size provides? Also does the black bag have the brown straps or are they black? Thanks!

    1. I personally find the mini has ample room for all of my day to day needs and more. My black bag has black straps but they might have changed that designed since I purchased it last winter.

  11. Hi! Would you mind to tell how tall are you? So that I could get an idea if the bag would suits my flame, I’m 5′ 3″ and lemming to get the regular size since I need more room for kid stuff, but wondering if it would be too big. Thank you!

  12. Hi there! Do you think this bag is big enough to fit a laptop or would the larger size suit the need better? It looks great!

    1. I definitely couldn’t fit my 15″ laptop into this bag. Not sure if it would fit in the larger size – you’d probably want to try it out at a store first to be sure.

    2. Definitely following up on an old post, but I have a MacBook Air and it fits in the larger bag (it takes a little maneuvering to zip sometimes, but I can get it done when it’s not overstuffed)
