Tea Time with Jen: Fall 2014

Tea time is one of my favorite times of day.  I love opening my tea drawer, picking out a blend, and brewing it to enjoy.  There’s something so soothing to me about holding a warm cuppa in my hands, inhaling the warm steam and savoring the aroma, and of course, the delicious taste.  I thought it would be fun to share my current tea favorites, including any recent empties, what I’m drinking now, any tea hauls, and my favorite tea accessories with you.

Tea Empties

✻ Rishi Teahouse Matcha Green Tea Powder – I was on quite the green tea latte kick over the summer.  To make it, I heat up a cup of almond milk and then whisk in a teaspoon or so of this delightfully refreshing green tea powder until combined.  Usually I sweeten with a bit of honey before enjoying this frothy green goodness.  *Repurchased

✻ Numi Moroccan Mint – I raved about this delicious mint blend in my last Tea Time post and it is still one of my all-time favorites.  The mint flavor is sweet and mild and oh-so soothing after a long day.  *Will Repurchase

✻ Mighty Leaf Ginger Twist – I love ginger tea any old time, but especially when I’m not feeling particularly well.  I’ve tried many brands and blends and this one my Mighty Leaf is definitely my favorite.  The ginger flavor is the star of the blend but it does not overwhelm.  *Repurchased

✻ The Republic of Tea Caramel Apple – I became quite enamored with this festive red tea blend over the past couple of months.  It has such a nice, bright fall apple flavor.  Add a bit of honey and it really tastes like a caramel apple.  Yum!  *Repurchased

✻ Paromi Cinnamon Chai – This delightful rooibos is the answer to my search for a caffeine-free chai.  It has a rich, spiced flavor with a natural sweetness that holds its own.  *Repurchased

What I’m Drinking Now

OJ_TBBB_11-26-2014_02

✻ Harney & Sons Pumpkin Spice – I picked this up on a whim earlier this fall at Barnes & Noble and immediately became smitten with the earthy fall flavor of this rooibos blend.  It doesn’t carry the same sweetness as the Paromi chai, but has a nice, rich flavor that is packed with spice.

✻ Mighty Leaf Organic African Nectar – If you couldn’t already tell, I’ve been really into rooibos blends lately.  This one by Mighty Leaf isn’t fall specific like some of the others in my tea drawer, but has more of a subtle, warm background that emphasize the earthiness of the rooibos.  It’s my go-to morning cup during any season.

✻ Tazo Organic Baked Apple Cinnamon – I picked this up at Whole Foods after I had run out of the Caramel Apple tea and was missing that apple flavor.  I must admit, this rooibos blend by Tazo falls a bit short flavor-wise, but it’s still quite nice as a more mild cup.

✻ Trader Joe’s Harvest Blend Herbal Tea – I was on the lookout for a fall herbal blend that wasn’t rooibos-based when I discovered this cute fox on the box at Trader Joe’s.  It’s a lovely evening herbal with a hint of fall spice.

✻ Mighty Leaf Organic Mint Melange – Mighty Leaf reached out to me several weeks ago after noticing my deep fondness for their teas and asked if they could send me a gift as a thank you for my support.  Who am I to say no to the gift of tea?  They sent one of their samplers, including this wonderful mint blend, which I have enjoyed in years past.  It’s been nice to enjoy it again especially after I was only buying the Numi mint for awhile.  The Mighty Leaf blend has a great minty flavor without overwhelming the palette.  The aroma is heaven especially when dealing with stress or nerves!

Tea Accessories

✻ Mighty Leaf TeaTop Brew Travel Mug – Mighty Leaf was also kind enough to send me this mug and I am honestly very impressed with the design!  Had I known about its existence prior to their gift, I would definitely have bought it to try out on my own, because I’ve been on the hunt for a solution to that pesky “where do I put my tea bag” problem when I’m on the road.  I often want to bring tea with me in the car, but I usually forget to allocate enough time for steeping before I go.  This ingenious design allows for the tea bag to be pulled up into a carved out portion of the lid to ensure that you never need to over-steep your tea.  I love it!

✻ Klean Kanteen Vacuum Insulated 12 oz – I’ve owned this travel canteen for many years and love how it keeps beverages hot for hours.  It’s my go-to pick when I’ve already managed to brew and steep my tea completely before heading out the door.  *Note – you have to buy the sip-on-the-go Cafe Cap lid separately

✻ Tag Autumn Owl Mug Set of 2 and Scheme and Sugar Mug – I’ve somehow turned into a bit of a mug collector over the years and I tend to use some more seasonally than others.  I’ve loved sipping out of my little woodland friends mugs this fall.  How cute are they?  It might sound silly, but a nice mug actually enhances the tea drinking experience for me.  I guess that’s how you know when you’re full out obsessed with tea!

  1. As I’ve gotten older, sensitivity to caffeine is a problem for me as it upsets my stomach. I have been drinking more tea lately and recently purchased a Celestial Seasoning Rooibos with Madagascar Vanilla and am really enjoying it. It is pretty good for the price and has just a hint of carameI or toffee. I am anxious to try the ones you have suggested!

  2. I really enjoy peach tea. Thanks for the generous giveaway and all the good info on teas, tea companies and cute mugs as well. I am a tea addict and love these vlogs!

  3. I am loving the Trader Joe’s harvest blend at the moment and even stocked up in case they take it off the shelves until next year. I agree that the cup enhances the tea and bring my mugs when I travel – how nuts is that? This is a fun post and thanks for sharing.

  4. Hi Jen!
What would you say are 2 of your favorite caffeine free teas and where I can I find them to try? I’ve just started drinking tea, and I am very sensitive to caffeine as well. I keep away from it because it doesn’t make me feel too well. I am going to be making a trip out to Whole Foods in the near future (the closest one to me is 45 minutes away so I don’t get there as often as I would like!), and if that is where you get some of your favorites, I would like to pick some up and try them. Please let me know if you can! Thanks so much! Happy Thanksgiving to you, Don, and Winnie! 🙂

  5. Thank you for the lovely video you shared!
    I really enjoyed watcing it!
Ok, I can t enter the giveaway because it s not international , but I really love this post and the video.

  6. I really enjoy drinking black tea with just a little bit of cream. I’m trying to get more into tea and actually bought myself the DAVIDsTEA advent calendar this year. I’m so excited! I’ve never tried this brand before but I couldn’t resist an advent calendar and such cute packaging!

  7. I actually work in a coffee shop in colorado that sells bulk tea, lately I have been in love with a this Oolong tea that we recently got in. Before that I was making my own blend of tea that has Rooibos, Jasmine, Rose hips, and a bit of vanilla powder. Thank you so much for this video, I will be trying that Chai soon!

  8. Bigalow Orange Spice tea is my favorite morning tea. I too am cutting back on caffine. The afternoon brew could be almost anything. Hubby brings home whatever decaf teas that are supplied with in room coffee service when he travels.

  9. I love tea, such a relaxing way to enjoy a good book and snuggle up. I love smooth teas the ones that relax you, a calming tea for nervous stomach. If you could suggest one I would love it.

    1. Ginger is great to ease any queasiness. I find mint teas very soothing as well. I love all of the picks I shared in those varieties in this post 🙂

  10. I enjoy many different teas. Started with frequent “tea parties” with my grandma when I was a little girl. My favorites change with the seasons, now I am loving the new White Christmas white tea by Stash. Love all the Ashbys teas, yum. Love to you.

  11. I still LOVE your referral from last year….Teavana’s Chocolate Peppermint Truffle Roobios tea. 🙂 Thanks for the referral!!

  12. Hello Jen!

I just wanted to say Hi and let you know that I like your videos.

I just had to order the Mighty Leaf TeaTop Brew Travel Mug. I was surprised that the seller was swedish. I live in Finland, so they were like next door neighbours 🙂

    Have a wonderful Christmas time.

    Sari

  13. Hello,

    Happy holidays !

  14. My fave teas are spicy and rooibos. I like David’s coco chai rooibos. I also enjoy black teas, with a splash of milk. I don’t love fruity teas or sweetened tea.

  15. Hi Jen! I most often drink black tea in the morning. Usually an earl gray. My favorite right now is the Numi Aged Earl Gray. Throughout the day I’ll drink more black tea or move on to herbal or rooibos.

  16. Great Tea Time video Jen! Always love seeing what teas (and mugs) you are enjoying – gives me new ideas to try too!
I love all kinds of teas but I love David’s Tea Mint Chocolate Rooibos right now.

On a different note: LOVE the hoodie that you are wearing in the video – what brand is it/where did you get it from? Thanks 🙂

    1. I got it from The North Face last year…it’s called the Stria Mezzaluna hoodie. Unfortunately it has been discontinued.

      1. Thanks so much Jen! Appreciate the info!
I’ll see whether I might be able to find one on Ebay, or then hopefully The North Face will bring out a similar hoodie this year 🙂

  17. I definitely need one of those Mighty Leaf travel tumblers! 🙂 What a great prize. Like you, I drink quite a bit of tea and I like to change up the brands and flavors. My staples are probably the Twinings Lady Grey, Lipton Blackberry Vanilla Herbal, and the ML White Lotus.
Thanks for hosting this giveaway. I hope I win 🙂

  18. I have Lipton’s green tea with mixed berries every day. I also enjoy Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice. Right now I’m finishing a cup of Celestial Seasonings Honey Lemon Ginseng white tea with some whiskey.
