Target Haul (Summer 2014)

I love Target.  It’s my favorite one-stop shop for both household essentials such as cleaning products and small appliances as well as personal items including clothing and cosmetics.  It’s also a great place to pick up books, music, DVDs, toys, party goods, stationary supplies, holiday decorations, and even groceries.  What’s not to love?  I’ve started a tradition of posting Target hauls when I am out at the family vacation home in Utah and people seem to really enjoy those, so I thought I would once again share what I picked up on my latest shopping trip.

Personal Hygiene & Cosmetics

✻ Yes To Grapefruit Daily Face Scrub – I mentioned how much I’ve been enjoying this scrub in my latest What’s In My Shower & Tub post.  I like it so much, in fact, that I bought one to keep in my shower at the Utah house.  It’s a wonderful middle-of-the-road kind of scrub (not too harsh, not too light) that I like to use about three times a week.

✻ Oral-B Glide Pro-Health Deep Clean Floss – I am a bit of a flossing fiend and cannot go without my all time favorite by Oral-B.

✻ Listerine Whitening Vibrant Mouthwash – Speaking of dental care, I’m also quite the mouthwash fiend and rotate through three (yes, you read that right, three!) different kinds in the course of each day.  I like to use this whitening variety in the morning.  It helps to keep my teeth looking white without the need for more concentrated treatments to which I am quite sensitive.

✻ Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon in Carolina Coast – I’ve been on a big Burt’s Bees kick lately, enjoying trying out their different lip product varieties.  This crayon-style product is quite long lasting.

✻ Burt’s Bees Lipgloss in Spring Splendor – While I love the beautiful deep pink color of this lipgloss flecked with gold shimmer, I’m not sure whether or not I’m a fan of the formula as of yet.  I’m considering a new series for TBBB where I do reviews on groups of products from one brand.  I am wondering if there would be any interest in this kind of post and video.  Let me know what you think in the comments!

✻ Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Hibiscus – I love tinted lip balms like this caramel-tinged pink one for easy no-fuss application on the go.  I find this balm to be quite moisturizing as well.

Schick Hydro Silk Razor Refills – I like to change out my razor head once a week.  I love the Schick Hydro Silk Razor for keeping my legs smooth and soft without running the risk of pesky nicks.

Clothing & Accessories

✻ Champion Women’s Supersoft 1/4 Zip Pullover – I’ve been looking for a lightweight long sleeve pullover for warmer weather (but still chilly) morning runs and I was excited to find this one on the clearance rack.  I like to wear bright colors like this when I run out by our Utah house because I need to run in the street due to the lack of sidewalks and like to make sure I am visible to traffic.

✻ Merona Slub Tank – If you saw my last couple of Miscellaneous Monthlies posts (both June and July) then you’ll know I have been slightly obsessed with these easy breezy racer back tanks from Target this summer.  I bought a couple to have out here since I love them so much!

✻ Champion Women’s Athletic Socks – I needed some new socks and these no show, padded sole ones are right up my alley.

Household Goods & Accessories

✻ West Bend Sir Crazy Hot Air Popcorn Popper -I recently purchased this air popper for our home in Illinois and was so impressed with it, I decided to get one for the Utah house, as well.  I love being able to pop up a bowl in mere minutes without the need for butter or oils.

✻ Chill Out Mini Tower Fan – We don’t have air conditioning in the Utah house, which isn’t a problem because it cools off so much at night that we can regulate the temperature of the house between leaving the windows open and fans.  I thought this tiny tower fan would be a perfect addition to my target=”_blank”>Loftice (office in a loft) to help me stay cool when I am up there working on videos and blog posts.

✻ Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Liquid Dish Soap in Honeysuckle – I love Mrs. Meyer’s products for keeping my kitchen in tiptop shape!  I especially enjoy the dish soap and the honeysuckle is a wonderfully mild and sweet scent perfect for the summer months.

✻ Clorox Premium Choice Gloves – A quality set of kitchen gloves is a must for me to save my hands and nails when I am cleaning up.

✻ Room Essentials Bed Rest – This is my most favorite item of all in the entire lot!  I actually purchased this same bed rest in a lighter blue color to use in bed at home in Illinois.  It’s the perfect size for propping up with my lap desk before I go to sleep at night to write in my planners and journals.  At $15 I think it’s a steal!

Books & Movies

OJ_TBBB_08-20-2014_04

✻ Children’s Books – I picked up a couple of books for my niece, Grace, as a little welcome back to Utah gift.  I chose Sleepy Bunny (Pat the Bunny Cloth Book) and Eight Silly Monkeys.  She really likes both of them!

✻ Movies – We’re constantly adding to our movie library at the house here as one of our favorite things to do as a family is relax and watch movies together.  I picked up three, including Star Trek Into Darkness, Chicago, and Spaceballs, which are all family favorites.

Fun Extras

OJ_TBBB_08-20-2014_05

Over the past few years I’ve started doing my own foot treatments and pedicures at home.  While I do indulge in a pedicure at a salon sometimes when I am on vacation, most of the time I opt to do this myself at home.  I decided to buy a few things to put together a little spa foot sanctuary.  This pretty Threshold Melamine Floral Serving Bowl is the perfect size for my feet.  I got some Threshold River Rock Vase Filler to add to the bottom of the bowl to rest my tootsies on.  The Plastic Mason Jar Pitcher makes it easy to fill up the bowl wherever I choose to place it.  I also picked up a Room Essentials Plastic Serving Tray to keep everything together, which I lined with one of two Threshold Performance Hand Towels in case of water spills.  The other towel is to dry my feet once I am done soaking them.  I also bought two candles to complete my at home spa experience, a Mason Jar Pomelo Lime Candle and a Caldrea Candle in Orange Blossom.  Not only are these candles pretty and happen to color coordinate with the bowl and towels, but they smell lovely when burned together as well.  It makes for a wonderfully relaxing spa-like foot ritual and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quick and easy way to decompress.

I share a closer look as well as my thoughts about each item in the coordinating video below:

What’s your favorite one-stop kind of shop?  Please feel free to leave a comment if you care to share!
Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  1. What’s a Utah trip without a Target haul?! I’m sure I’m not the only one who looks forward to these hauls.

Your new cushion looks like the cosiest thing ever, and your foot spa ritual sounds delightful, and relaxing of course! Children love books – I have a nine month old of my own – and so I bet your gifts went down a treat with Grace. Also, I look forward to hearing how you like the Burt’s Bees lip products, I’ve been interested in trying that part of their line for a while.

If only Target was here in the UK….
    🙂

  2. That lime candle is just too cute. Let us know how you like it. Also, I have been meaning to suggest this for a while. There are these Craftsman tool boxes that come in light bright colors like pink or lime in addition to the standard red and grey/silver you might see in garages. I once saw a video where someone used them for make up storage but I suspect they could be used for anything that would benefit from shallow storage. Make-up, office supplies, crafts like stamps and cake decorating supplies are a few that come to mind. And this is just me personally, but given the right space I might consider it for kitchen items. Like in a room over a garage, shed turned into guest house. I just don’t know how things that are not tools store in metal. They are spendy but last forever I guess. I can’t pull off the look in my house now but maybe in a closet. Also some of the colors in your foot spa set remind me of last year’s Orla Kiely. Have fun out there. Loving these Utah videos.

      1. Hi Jen, I found you only recently and I am having a lot of fun watching and reading your vids and blogs! I really love your hauls and such…especially when you share gifts you have picked up for family etc…it really helps me and gives me ideas! I love giving gifts but sometimes run out of ideas…so I really appreciate your ideas! Take care!

  3. Thanks for sharing! Target is the best! If you would ever consider it, I would love to see a dental routine video.. if just “I use this, then do this, etc. 🙂 🙂

  4. Hi Jen,

Love your pedicure set from Target. Do you use a callous tool on your heels when giving yourself a pedicure? If so, what brand? Maybe you could do a pedicure video along with the manicure video? Thanks much.

  5. Hi Jen,

I have the Casabella rubber gloves at home in dark blue and love them. Sur La Table carries them in their store. Perhaps there is a Sur La Table near your Utah home.

  6. I loved this haul video! 😀
And what an awesome idea with the pedicure set-up – I am stealing this idea, thank you for sharing with us! 🙂

  7. Hey Jen. Just wondering if you could answer this depending on privacy issues or not? Are you going on any trips other than Italy and Disney World this year? Do you have any other trips for 2015 planned either? Also are you going to Italy in September and will videos still be posted while you’re gone? Thanks so much for some of the best videos on YouTube (at least in my opinion)! 🙂

    1. We do have one other trip planned at the moment – a romantic weekend getaway that’s a (relatively) short drive away. Other than that, possible plans to come back to Utah later in the fall but not sure yet. I haven’t decided yet about my posting schedule while I am in Italy. I’m not planning on attempting to edit or upload anything while I am away but I may have some videos on TBBN and/or OLJ scheduled while I am gone. Or, I might just take that time off of posting completely. I hope to sort it out soon 🙂

      1. How long is your Italy trip going to be? 1 week? 10 days? 2 weeks? Just curious as I’ve never been to Italy and will live vicariously through your photos, updates and hopefully a travel vlog when you get back then 🙂

  8. Wish we had a Target in the UK. I would be really interested in hearing more about your dental routine do you think that’s something you might share?

  9. I too just purchased the Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm, but I bought it in Sweet Violet. It’s a shade of light to medium purple, which looks great with my skin tone. I absolutely love the color and love that it keeps my lips moisurized for a long time. I think I might buy it another color as well. Maybe something a little lighter and more neutral tone.
Thanks so much for sharing your Target Haul!! 🙂

  10. I am obsessed with Target. I can’t imagine life without this store, lol! I am really impressed by the quality of their clothes. I find the things that I buy there hold up beyond a lot of other pricier mall stores. That foot spa sanctuary is a brilliant idea! I may copy you, if that is okay.
    🙂

P.S. You and Don win at food. I love watching your WIR while I cook dinner. Its inspiring to see your nice family dinners at date night dinners.

  11. Joining all the UK dwellers lamenting the lack of Target over here so I love seeing your haul videos. I’ve been looking at getting together a foot spa kit myself and it’s a great idea to use a cute bowl like this rather than a boring plastic bucket (my current glamorous routine)! I’m guessing the decorative stones hold the heat of the water somewhat too – how relaxing! I’d also be interested in seeing your dental routine. I need to up my game in that department.

  12. Yay!! A Target haul! Thanks so much Jen! I’m know, I’m a few days behind on catching up on my Jen videos, but I’m really enjoying them! I always love your hauls, thanks so much for doing one!

    Great shopping!
Love that little fan for your loftice! And the air popcorn maker is awesome – I absolutely love mine too! Makes the best snack ever!
Nice clothes too! Love that 1/4 zip pullover! Fun color too! And those champion socks are great!

What a good idea to do the spa home treatments too! I should start doing that too because I don’t always trust the spas for being 100% hygienic! The little spa sanctuary you created is just beautiful and perfect! Thanks for sharing!

  13. So funny!!! I guess I am not the only one that would sit on the bathroom counter with my feet in the sink… you are right – Not comfortable Or safe – I’ve always had this thing about other people touching my feet – (even my husband is like, What???) so I do my own pedicures.
I love your new Utah pedicure system, because you really thought about it – you made it simple and cozy and pretty- you just personalized it. I had been thinking about buying one of those Foot Spa Pedicure Tubs, but I like your idea better – make it your own and enjoy it. I have the space and storage so I’m going to copy you. Thanks Jen!

PS: Winnie- so adorable as usual!! Dogs and animals in general, warm my heart with their beauty.

  14. I do love your Target Hauls. I think the socks you showed would be great stocking stuffers. I’m planning on getting some of the tank tops you showed for my daughter holiday time since she works out. Your target hauls are great for anyone on a budget. I have two grandsons from my daughter and daughter in law that are Gracie’ s age and the two books are good ideas as well. You really put so much caring into everything you do. Thank you!
