Pregnancy Update | 28 Weeks

It’s pregnancy update time! In my weekly update I share what’s happening in my pregnancy journey with you. This includes general stats such as how I’m feeling, any symptoms I’m experiencing, food cravings and aversions, weight gain, bump shots, etc., as well as what’s going on in my life that’s pregnancy-related and any baby things we’ve purchased or received as gifts. Here’s the scoop at 28 weeks:

bump update 28 weeks 2015

Here’s the current status:

How Far Along – 28 weeks (3rd Trimester)

Baby Size Comparison – Head of Cauliflower (16″ Head to Toe and 2.5 pounds)

❊ Movement – I’ve been asked to share about the baby’s movement, so I thought I’d add it to the list.  Baby Girl moves a lot but it still feels very gentle even on the inside and it’s quite rare to feel her on the outside.  I believe my anterior placenta is playing a part in this.  I also wonder if she is facing the back of my body instead of the belly.  Don has felt her kick a couple of times now, which I am grateful for.  I feel her a lot throughout the day, especially before and after meals.  She’s quite active even if it’s subtle!

Symptoms – I noticed myself tiring a lot faster this past weekend, which I thought must be pregnancy related, but then I woke up with a sore throat on Monday and realized I must have been fighting off something.  I’m sure being pregnant plays some part, but getting sick definitely does, too!

Physical Changes – There wasn’t a huge amount of visible growth in my belly in the past week.  Fortunately, my breasts have stopped growing (for the time being) as well, too, and the new bras I purchased last week are working well.

Weight Gain – 1 pound (22 total)

Mood – In general I continue to feel happy and calm, although I did have a bit of an emotionally volatile weekend mostly because I was really tired from fighting off a cold.

Sleep – Most nights I sleep about 9 hours.  It’s heavenly!

Food Cravings – I’m still on a big cereal kick for the first time in my life.  I’ve gone through two whole boxes in the past few weeks!

Food Aversions – Fish.  Not to be confused with seafood, which I still enjoy eating for the most part, although shrimp has started to feel less appealing to me as of late.

Missing – A little breathing room in my schedule.  I’ve been on such a big posting kick lately that between work, appointments, and time with loved ones there’s been very little time to just take a breather.  I’m looking to change that so I have a bit of wiggle room for the last couple of months of my pregnancy.

Looking Forward To – Continuing work on the baby’s room.  My next task is to find an area rug and window treatments for the nursery.  I’ve already started poking around online, but it’s really hard to know without being able to see these things in person.  I want pretty specific things that are tough to find in stores.  I’ll probably end up making an educated guess and hope for the best!

This Week’s Happenings – I picked out a room color for the nursery (Benjamin Moore’s Lambskin), which we’re having painted this week.  I also preregistered for the hospital, which my doctor recommended doing three months prior to my due date.  I can’t believe we’re getting so close to meeting our sweet girl!

baby book haul october 2015

I purchased a few baby care books this week, including The Happiest Baby on the Block by Harvey Karp, MD, Baby 411 by Ari Brown and Denise Fields, and the Mayo Clinic Guide To Your Baby’s First Year.  I’m not planning on reading all of these cover to cover, but wanted to be able to flip through them and have them on hand for when I want this kind of resource.

I talk more about my week in this video if you’re interested:

Thank you so much for your well wishes, kind words, and helpful advice.  I appreciate your support so much!

  1. I can’t wait to see your baby nursery and organization! I love the golf gift baby girl received! She will look adorable in it! Thanks for sharing again this week and I do hope you are feeling better!

  2. Also check out Jenny Mccarthy’s book Belly Laughs. It was pretty funny!

You’re so inspiring! Cant wait to see the nursery!

  3. Out of curiosity, will you be attending any “baby expos?” It’s amazing how excited I am for you and I’ve never met you! lol Wish you all of the best. =)

    1. I haven’t considered that…maybe someday down the line if I get really into reviewing baby gear tho? Never say never 🙂

  4. I had the Mayo Clinic Book pretty much from the time I got pregnant. Loved it. Only complaint wish there was more info in there on sleep. Our son was doing great for a while sleeping in his own room and now it’s a struggle. Loving the Bringing up Bebe book which I am listening to on as I never seem to have a minute to sit and read anymore unless it’s baby books 🙂 You look great! Feel better and you and Don will always have the support of the Beach to Prairie home.

  5. You’re getting so big! Pregnancy suits you so well. I’m 15 weeks behind you, and it’s been so much fun following you at the same time.

  6. SO very happy for you and Don! This is lovely and sweet and I enjoy following along as you two get ready to meet her! Thank you for sharing with us –

  7. Congrats on everything! Im about 8 weeks behind you due in March. Just wondering what you meant by reregistering for the hospital? you have to register for a room? Also feel better I just got over food poisoning and had to have an IV drip no fun!

  8. Hi Jen! I remember registering at my hospital ahead of time too! It’s getting closer! Don’t worry about the delivery you will be so excited that the baby is finally coming you will do great!

  9. Happiest Baby on the Block is the BEST BABY BOOK EVER!!!!!! Read it, learn it, apply it – it really works and will make life so much easier on everybody. Really and truly – this will help your family so much!!

  10. So happy for you and Don. Like ridiculously happy. Children are a mega joy. I just very unwisely watched your last three weeks of updates (its like 2:30am and my son will be up in a few short hours) and I just couldn’t get enough! Thanks for doing these updates and being so candid about your experience. It totally fills the void I have right now in having a pregnant girlfriend (pregnancy is my complete favorite!!!) I am super excited for you to get to experience this amazing experience and its so wise of you to realize how special this time is!

A question I have for you is how you’re planning on juggling the holidays with all the baby prep. My son was born at the end of January and it felt like a lot to do and it made enjoying and experiencing the holidays a little less “magical” for lack of a better word. You seem so completely relaxed about getting ready for baby, I am totally impressed. Keep up the good work Mama. Best of luck, and super amazing happy vibes to you!

    1. We’ve basically told the family that after Thanksgiving we’re off hosting and they totally understand. I think that will make a big difference in time management for us during the busiest time of year.

  11. Good luck with trying to take a breather once the baby comes. I’m still trying to take one and my boys are 17 & 11. I usually get a little time on Sunday mornings. The older children get, the more time they require especially if they’re involved in multiple activities.

  12. Hey jen thanks for sharing I am so happy for you and don and think you’ll be great parents. Have you ever watched what’s up mom on youtube and daily bumps there. Both fun to watch as well. And olliver is adorable.

  13. Have you been able to check out website? I remember when Emily had mentioned it when you’ll was doing little Grace’s room with décor. I like the site but I have always brought household things.
