It’s pregnancy update time! In my weekly update I share what’s happening in my pregnancy journey with you. This includes general stats such as how I’m feeling, any symptoms I’m experiencing, food cravings and aversions, weight gain, bump shots, etc., as well as what’s going on in my life that’s pregnancy-related and any baby things we’ve purchased or received as gifts. Here’s the scoop at 27 weeks:
Here’s the current status:
❊ How Far Along – 27 weeks (now officially in the third trimester! 😀 )
❊ Baby Size Comparison – Cucumber (15″ Head to Toe and 2.2 pounds)
❊ Symptoms – I feel like my belly and breasts both did a lot of growing this week and I started really feeling it around my bra band. My chest started to feel rather constricted and I need to take off my bra to feel like I could breathe fully again. I bought some new bras which are helping a lot during the day, but I still feel a bit uncomfortable in my chest by the evening.

I purchased a couple of my favorite underwire bras, the Perfect Coverage Bras from Victoria’s Secret, in the next size up. I still prefer to wear these when I’m out and about because they “lift and separate” the way I like. I’m now wearing a 36D after starting at a 32D pre-pregnancy.
I know it’s a bit early to buy nursing bras since my breasts will most likely grow again, but honestly they just looked comfortable and got good reviews, so I thought why not. I don’t like not wearing a bra unless I’m sleeping and since I spend most of my time in my house, I thought I could wear these when I’m at home. I figured it wasn’t necessarily a bad idea to see what brands and styles I like so I know once the baby is born. Plus, these bras come in a standard XS through XL size instead of specific band and cup sizes, so one size can work for various chest sizes.
I decided to try out the Bravado Body Silk Bras, because they get such awesome reviews on Amazon. I purchased the two pack so I could have my most worn colors, black and nude. I also ended up buying the iLoveSIA Maternity/Nursing Bras, which come in a two-pack as well, since they were so inexpensive ($20.99). I purchased a Veami Nursing Sleep Bra which has very little support, but I thought might be nice when I’m feeling extra tight around the chest. I haven’t tested them out yet since they just came in the mail, but I’ll keep you posted if any of them become favorites!
❊ Physical Changes – As I mentioned before, I feel like both my belly and breasts grew significantly in the past week alone. It seems like my belly is now expanding up closer to my ribcage. I wonder if this is because I am so short-waisted or just a normal part of the development. Either way, you can really see the difference in my comparison photos above between last week and now!
❊ Weight Gain – 1 pound (21 total)
❊ Mood – It was a really good week mood-wise for me. I felt happy and in the groove with both my work and personal life.
❊ Sleep – I’m back to excellent sleep after last week‘s issues. Most nights I sleep 9+ hours. What a luxury!
❊ Food Cravings – I’m suddenly huge on cereal, which is quite out of the ordinary since I’ve really never been interested in it before. I’ve been eating Trader Joe’s Triple Berry O’s. Delicious!
❊ Food Aversions – Fish. Not to be confused with seafood, which I still enjoy eating for the most part.
❊ Missing – Being able to breathe at the end of the day! I’m hoping my new bra purchases will help with this.
❊ Looking Forward To – Picking out a color to paint the nursery. That’s in my plans for the week. I hope to have the room prepped and painted by the end of the month, including switching out the closet doors and picking out window treatments. I’ll do a complete room makeover post and video once all is said and done, including before, during, and after looks. This might not go up until after Baby Girl is born depending on when the nursery furniture we ordered last month arrives.
❊ This Week’s Happenings – Don and I went to a Yoga for Childbirth workshop last week held at a local yoga studio. While we’re signed up for a bunch of classes offered through our hospital in November and December, I thought this workshop might offer a different perspective. We really enjoyed that it was geared more towards mind and body practices to help during labor, not necessarily just delivery. We also went shopping for strollers this past weekend. I had narrowed it down to my top three, but we wanted to try them out in person before making our final decision. You can read more about my process and which strollers we tested here if you’d like.
I’m super excited to finally be able to share that my sister-in-law, Emily, is also pregnant! She and her husband, Dave, are expecting a baby boy in early February. Our due dates are almost exactly four weeks apart! I’ve known since she took a positive pregnancy test back in May, but obviously wanted to respect her desire to keep the good news to just the inner circle until she was ready to share publicly. It’s been so much fun to have a pregnancy buddy! Our family is growing by leaps and bounds in 2016 🙂
I talk more about my week in this video if you’re interested:
