It’s pregnancy update time! In my weekly update I share what’s happening in my pregnancy journey with you. This includes general stats such as how I’m feeling, any symptoms I’m experiencing, food cravings and aversions, weight gain, bump shots, etc., as well as what’s going on in my life that’s pregnancy-related and any baby things we’ve purchased or received as gifts. Here’s the scoop at 22 weeks:
I am definitely growing, but I feel like it’s a bit less this week. I’m sure some weeks will feel like a lot and others not so much. Regardless, I’m loving my bump and smile every time I look down.
Here’s the current status:
❊ How Far Along – 22 weeks
❊ Baby Size Comparison – Spaghetti Squash (8″ Head to Rump / 11″ Head to Toe and 16 ounces) – I’m not sure how my app jumped from 11 ounces last week to a whole pound this week, but Baby Girl was estimating 15 ounces at my ultrasound last week and I was told she’s right on track so I guess that’s right!
❊ Symptoms – The itchy breasts continue. It’s not terribly uncomfortable or anything, just noticeable and pretty constant. Applying oil or lotion helps a lot. A new symptom that developed this week is something I like to call Frog in Throat syndrome. It feels like something is stuck in my throat, even though nothing is. I’m well hydrated, so it’s not thirst. It happens periodically throughout the day. I’m not sure if this is a form of heartburn or something similar. It’s not painful, but it’s also not the most pleasant. I’m hoping that one doesn’t stick around.
❊ Physical Changes – I didn’t notice a huge change in bump growth this week, but I know it’s going to vary. I’m still loving holding onto my belly, especially now that I can feel Baby Girl kicking from the outside more frequently. It’s still quite faint, but she grows bigger and stronger every day and I think it won’t be long before Don can feel her, too.
❊ Weight Gain – 2 pounds (14 total)
❊ Mood – The past week was a bit on the hectic side between flying home from Utah and having a week to get my house and work on track before jetting off again, this time to Hawaii for our babymoon/anniversary trip. I’ve noticed I’m more prone to feeling emotional when I’m super busy. For the most part I’ve surprised myself with how calm I’ve felt this trimester despite some busy moments.
❊ Sleep – 7-8 hours a night, with a bit less on the eves of travel days. I still get up just 1-2x a night to use the bathroom, but I never have an issue with going right back to sleep.
❊ Food Cravings – I had a left field craving for funfetti-style cake this week. Fortunately, we threw a party over the weekend, which gave me the perfect excuse to whip up a batch of Betty Crocker Rainbow Party Chip cupcakes. Not only did I satisfy my craving, but the cupcakes were a big hit with my guests! Win win 😀
❊ Food Aversions – Fish. Still. But as I mentioned last week that aversion is waning. We actually just arrived in Hawaii and I’m curious to see if being surrounded by such wonderfully fresh fish will change the tides.
❊ Missing – My dog, Winnie. She’s in good hands and well taken care of by her Aunt Julie while we’re away, but I still can’t help missing my furry angel.
❊ Looking Forward To – This trip! My sweet husband actually planned the whole thing, right down to the location. He suggested returning to Maui where we honeymooned 10 years ago in celebration of our big anniversary and last big vacation for just the two of us before Baby Girl arrives.
❊ This Week’s Happenings – We had our 20 week ultrasound this past week (actually at 21 weeks), which is the mid-pregnancy anatomy scan. It took about a half hour. The physician measured every part of Baby Girl from head to toe and closely analyzed her brain, heart, and other organs. I’m happy to report that everything looks good! As I mentioned before, Baby Girl is measuring right on track and in good health. She wasn’t very active during the ultrasound, but she was sucking her thumb which was absolutely adorable to see, and she had her little legs crossed at the ankles. I’m so in love!
The ultrasound pictures aren’t very clear since that wasn’t the focus of the scan, but I thought I’d include a few of my favorites. You can see her little profile pretty well. The picture of her perfect little foot makes my heart swell. ❤

I purchased a couple of maternity swimsuits at the last minute before our trip. I’m glad I waited, actually, because I got each on sale!
