Pregnancy Update | 22 Weeks

It’s pregnancy update time!  In my weekly update I share what’s happening in my pregnancy journey with you.  This includes general stats such as how I’m feeling, any symptoms I’m experiencing, food cravings and aversions, weight gain, bump shots, etc., as well as what’s going on in my life that’s pregnancy-related and any baby things we’ve purchased or received as gifts.  Here’s the scoop at 22 weeks:

bump update 22 weeks

I am definitely growing, but I feel like it’s a bit less this week.  I’m sure some weeks will feel like a lot and others not so much.  Regardless, I’m loving my bump and smile every time I look down.

Here’s the current status:

How Far Along – 22 weeks

Baby Size Comparison – Spaghetti Squash (8″ Head to Rump / 11″ Head to Toe and 16 ounces) – I’m not sure how my app jumped from 11 ounces last week to a whole pound this week, but Baby Girl was estimating 15 ounces at my ultrasound last week and I was told she’s right on track so I guess that’s right!

Symptoms – The itchy breasts continue.  It’s not terribly uncomfortable or anything, just noticeable and pretty constant.  Applying oil or lotion helps a lot.  A new symptom that developed this week is something I like to call Frog in Throat syndrome.  It feels like something is stuck in my throat, even though nothing is.  I’m well hydrated, so it’s not thirst.  It happens periodically throughout the day.  I’m not sure if this is a form of heartburn or something similar.  It’s not painful, but it’s also not the most pleasant.  I’m hoping that one doesn’t stick around.

Physical Changes – I didn’t notice a huge change in bump growth this week, but I know it’s going to vary.  I’m still loving holding onto my belly, especially now that I can feel Baby Girl kicking from the outside more frequently.  It’s still quite faint, but she grows bigger and stronger every day and I think it won’t be long before Don can feel her, too.

Weight Gain – 2 pounds (14 total)

Mood – The past week was a bit on the hectic side between flying home from Utah and having a week to get my house and work on track before jetting off again, this time to Hawaii for our babymoon/anniversary trip.  I’ve noticed I’m more prone to feeling emotional when I’m super busy.  For the most part I’ve surprised myself with how calm I’ve felt this trimester despite some busy moments.

Sleep – 7-8 hours a night, with a bit less on the eves of travel days.  I still get up just 1-2x a night to use the bathroom, but I never have an issue with going right back to sleep.

Food Cravings – I had a left field craving for funfetti-style cake this week.  Fortunately, we threw a party over the weekend, which gave me the perfect excuse to whip up a batch of Betty Crocker Rainbow Party Chip cupcakes.  Not only did I satisfy my craving, but the cupcakes were a big hit with my guests!  Win win 😀

Food Aversions – Fish.  Still.  But as I mentioned last week that aversion is waning.  We actually just arrived in Hawaii and I’m curious to see if being surrounded by such wonderfully fresh fish will change the tides.

Missing – My dog, Winnie.  She’s in good hands and well taken care of by her Aunt Julie while we’re away, but I still can’t help missing my furry angel.

Looking Forward To – This trip!  My sweet husband actually planned the whole thing, right down to the location.  He suggested returning to Maui where we honeymooned 10 years ago in celebration of our big anniversary and last big vacation for just the two of us before Baby Girl arrives.

This Week’s Happenings – We had our 20 week ultrasound this past week (actually at 21 weeks), which is the mid-pregnancy anatomy scan.  It took about a half hour.  The physician measured every part of Baby Girl from head to toe and closely analyzed her brain, heart, and other organs.  I’m happy to report that everything looks good!  As I mentioned before, Baby Girl is measuring right on track and in good health.  She wasn’t very active during the ultrasound, but she was sucking her thumb which was absolutely adorable to see, and she had her little legs crossed at the ankles.  I’m so in love!

The ultrasound pictures aren’t very clear since that wasn’t the focus of the scan, but I thought I’d include a few of my favorites.  You can see her little profile pretty well.  The picture of her perfect little foot makes my heart swell. ❤

I purchased a couple of maternity swimsuits at the last minute before our trip.  I’m glad I waited, actually, because I got each on sale!

  1. Love your updates even though I’m way past having kids. The throat thing could be because of irritation from acid reflux experienced overnight. Back in my day, docs recommended Tums, but that might not be good for you anymore? Who knows? Hope it gets better soon. Enjoy your Babymoon!

  2. Hi Jen, I hope you are relaxing and enjoying your holiday with Don. I just posted this message on your Video and thought I would post it here also. Take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar then a drink water to wash it down, this will give your stomach the acid it needs, I recommend
buying the glass bottled vinegar. Heartburn, acid reflux and most stomach problems are the result of “not having enough acid”, most people think it is the lack of. Your stomach will churn because it is trying to make use of limited acid when it is deficient and this causing heartburn from a back flow of the existing acid. You will be happy with the results when your heartburn subsides within minutes… Take care of your pretty girl bump much love Margaret xxxxx

  3. Congratulations, Jen!!!
That cute little Baby-girl looks just perfect. Mine is 7 months old by now and looking a these pictures makes me tear up, just cause time flys way too fast. We had issues conceiving as well and that made me appreciate my pregnancy even more. Your girl looks so cute. I LOVE the picture of her profile. Perfect nose, perfect lips.
Best wishes for you, Don, Winnie and your little one.
Love and Greetings from Germany. Manu 💖

  4. Hey Jennifer, I’m 14 weeks along due in March of next year and I’ve recently been researching labor and delivery options. I was wondering if you’ve thought about how you want to deliver. Best of luck with everything =)

  5. I just found out that I was pregnant yesterday. This is my first baby and I don’t know anything of what I’m supposed to do or not to do. You don’t understand how helpful your pregnancy videos are to me. Thank you so much for doing these videos for us.

    1. Congratulations!! There’s a lot of information out there which can be overwhelming, but you’ll find your own way, don’t worry. 🙂

  6. Thank you for sharing your ultrasound pictures! Especially the profile one. I just have a comment regarding the heartburn. This is non-scientific, but I experienced it about the sixth month all the way to the ninth. Friends of my mom said that it was because my little girl was going to be born with lots of hair. I thought that could not be the reason. Sure enough she was! To this day she has beautiful, thick amazing hair.

      1. Strangely enough, I would occasionally make what we called lizard noises, they weren’t gas or painful. Eventually I got indigestion at night and had to sleep semi reclined. My son was born with so much hair we called him the Wolfman!

  7. As far as stretch mark prevention and dry skin, what are you using that you would recommend. I’m only 4 1/2 weeks pregnant, but I am soooo thirsty and my skin is already dry! Thanks in advance. (I’m so happy we get to be pregnant at the same time!!!)

    1. Congrats! I like the Burt’s Bees Mama Bee line as well as the Mother’s Special Blend oil. You can read more about my thoughts on these products here.
