Pool Bag | Summer 2015

We’re fortunate to belong to a local club near the family home in Utah that has a beautiful swimming pool.  I love spending time with my family at the pool!  Today I thought it would be fun to share about my pool bag and what I pack in it.

I use the Everyday Lightweight Tote from L.L. Bean as my pool bag.  Although my older version is slightly different than the currently available one, the basic construction is the same, with the exception of the many exterior slip pockets as seen on my bag that they have now reduced to just one.  I have the large size, which measures 15″ high x 17″ wide x 7½” deep.  The bag is made out of a lightweight yet durable nylon fabric that dries quickly.  It includes an interior zip pocket with a key fob as well as a zip-top closure.  The current large model retails for $29.95 and can be personalized.

This bag is lightweight and easy to pack with ample space for all of my pool essentials.  The bright yellow and orange colors make it easy to spot.  The handles are comfortable and long enough to accommodate a full load.  If the bag happens to get wet it dries quickly.  It serves all of my pool bag needs well.

Here’s a look at what I’ve been packing in my pool bag this summer:

pool bag contents 2015

✻ Ball – for playing with, naturally 🙂
✻ Beauty Bag – see below for details
Kate Spade Sunglasses
✻ Extra Ziplock Bag, Earbud Headphones, Bandaids
✻ Books – Don’s Kindle and my current pool read, Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy
✻ Vinyl Zip Pouch with Valuables (Phone, Wallet, Keys)
Beach Towels

I use a clear vinyl cosmetics clutch from The Container Store to store all of my pool-side beauty essentials:

Lip Smackers SPF 24 Lip Balm
Mane Message Hair Tie & Clip
✻ Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner
✻ Hair Brush & Comb
✻ Aveeno Hydrosport SPF 30 Spray
✻ Aveeno Protect + Hydrate SPF50 Lotion (the one shown is no longer available)
✻ Coola Mineral Face SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion
✻ thinksport SPF 50 Plus Sunscreen

I realize that seems like a lot of sunscreen for one person, but I actually pack my pool bag for both my husband, Don, and myself.  I prefer mineral sunscreen while he likes chemical sunblock, which is why I carry both kinds.  We both enjoy different formulas for our faces and bodies.

I share more details about my pool bag and what’s inside it in this video:

I made this video in collaboration with Ashley from Paper Pastels on YouTube.  She posted about her Travel Essentials, which I recommend checking out if you love packing videos.  She makes wonderful Plan With Me and DIY videos on her channel and also has an Etsy shop, Hello Ashleyann, where she sells handmade planner stickers.  She’s a very talented and creative gal and her links are definitely worth a look if you’re interested!

I hope you enjoyed this look inside my pool bag.  I’d love to hear about what kind of pool/beach bag you use and what you like to pack in it if you care to share!
Happy Swimming 🙂

  1. Off to do some shopping for my upcoming holiday over the weekend – I’ll be picking up a similar bag for my skin care essentials and you’ve reminded me I need some more leave in conditioner! I love an old faithful bag, I have a large Walt Disney World tote bag that’s been my go-to pool bag for years, it’ll be coming on this trip with me too!

  2. My daughters and I just may be addicted to checking in and seeing what’s new at pretty neat living. I am a huge bag fan and love to have one for lots of different things. Just wait till your little girl arrives. I can’t wait to see what you use for a diaper bag etc. 🙂 I hope you will post what you pack in that too.

  3. Hi Jen. Great videos. I really liked your iPhone cover, can you please tell where did you get it from?
Thanks and have a great day:)

  4. Dear Jen, I love your videos, but seeing that book by J McCarthy was a bit of a shock, and now I feel I must ask: Do you intend to vaccinate your child? I sincerely hope you do not believe her and her lies about autism.

I hope you have a great time in Utah 🙂

    1. I don’t actually know anything about Jenny McCarthy except this book which is just supposed to be a funny take on the icky sides of pregnancy. It doesn’t mention anything about vaccinations.
