Planner Review | Ashley Shelly Planner 2018

I’m back with another planner review!  Talking shop about planners is one of my absolute favorite topics and I know a lot of my fellow Planner Enthusiasts feel the same way.  There’s just something exciting about exploring the world of planners (well, to some of us at least 😉 ).  Today, I am sharing a look at the 2018 Ashley Shelly Planner.  Spoiler alert: it’s a beauty!

I was fortunate to meet Ashley of Ashley Shelly at the GO Wild planner conference I attended this past May.  She’s one of those people you can just tell you’re going to like right away.  She’s sweet and kind but also a very savvy small business owner and go-getter kind of gal.  I was so honored that she sent me one of her beautiful new planners to take a look at.  She did not ask or assume that I would share online, but of course, I must.  It’s too beautiful not to!

The 2018 Ashley Shelly Planner features a beautiful glossy hard cover with metal Wire-O binding.  I’m usually not a fan of Wire-O, but this binding feels sturdier than some others I’ve reviewed. The Painted Floral cover is pictured above.  The planner comes in four cover designs with two different metal accent choices, silver or rose gold.  Matching metal corners protect the edges of both the front and back covers.  I love the feel of this cover.  It is glossy, which gives it a nice sheen, but it is smooth to the touch.  The planner measures 7.25″ wide by 9.25″ tall (including the binding).  The inside pages are 6″ wide by 9″ tall and are printed on vibrant white 80 lb paper.

The interior of the front cover includes a slip pocket.  Ashley’s 5″ x 8″ notebooks fit perfectly tucked inside!  There is also a clear plastic zip pouch bound into the coil which includes a sheet of color coordinating glossy circle stickers.  There are several pre-printed pages before the calendar starts to help with goal setting and big picture planning, including an inspiration board, important contacts and favorite meal ideas sheets, a 2018 planning overview spread on two pages, 2018 and 2019 yearly overview calendars, and a list of 2018 major US holidays (you can see these in detail in my video below).

The Ashley Shelly Planner includes a weekly format calendar with monthly spreads as well.  Each month is marked with a laminated tab.  The divider pages are printed on 80 lb card stock.  Monthly spreads span across two pages and follow a traditional column layout.  There is a previous and next month at a glance and notes section located in the left margin.  The interior color scheme follows Ashley’s primary brand colors of teal, purple, and dark grey.

One of the most interesting features of the Ashley Shelly Planner is the creative spread that follows the monthly calendar.  This section includes prompts to help users visualize goals and plans for the month.  I like how the prompts encourage you to consider not only what you want/need for the month, but also what you do not want/need to happen.  Many of us, myself included, have a difficult time saying no to things or find ourselves falling into habits we’d rather shake.  I think this prompt is an important reminder that advance planning isn’t just about saying yes to everything all of the time.

Two lined note pages follow the monthly creative prompt.  The lefthand page is broken up into two columns while the righthand page is a traditional lined notes block.

Four weekly spreads follow suit with a horizontal format.  Each day of the week is given equal space, including weekend days.  There is a time stamp section where users can fill in the times with coordinating appointments or tasks, as well as a to-do list with boxes for checking off.  One line is highlighted in teal for “Due Today” and a space for dinner plans is included as well.  Space to write your “monthly word/mantra” on the top left margin is a great tie-in back to the monthly creative prompt as a way to keep your goals in mind every week.

This sequence repeats itself for every month of the year running from January through December 2018.  There are ten lined note pages included at the back of the planner.  The 2018 Ashley Shelly Planner retails for $49.95.  You have the option to add a monogram to the cover for an additional fee.

Ashley was kind enough to offer a discount to Pretty Neat Living readers!  Save $5 off the purchase of a signature planner using the code PRETTY5.  Offer expires December 31, 2017.

Ashley also offers a 2018 Monthly Notebook Planner.  This soft sided notebook is staple bound with a beautiful linen card stock cover and is available in four cover designs with either dot grid or lined notes pages.

The notebook measure 5″ wide by 8 ” tall.  The cover has a nice texture and weight to it.  The inside pages are printed on vibrant white 80 lb paper using Ashley’s signature teal, purple, and dark grey color scheme.

The monthly spreads span across two pages and follow the same format as the signature planner.  There are two lined or dot grid note pages between each monthly spread, depending on which format you purchase.  The calendar is dated from January through December 2018.  This notebook planner retails for $18.  It’s a nice option for those who prefer something small and portable and do not require a lot of space to write down daily details.  I think it would be an excellent stocking stuffer!

Ashley also sells a variety of accessories on her website, including notebooks, mouse pads, a journal, pens, and Planner Girl tees.  You can check out her shop here to see all of the available goodies!

I hope you enjoyed this look at the Ashley Shelly 2018 Planner.  It is a beautifully constructed and well-thought out planner, which is a true reflection of Ashley’s passion for planning.

I love sharing looks at different planners like this with you!  It’s one of my favorite kinds of content to make and I’d like to make it more of a regular feature on my blog.  If there are any planners you’d like me to share about in the future, please leave me a comment and I’ll take it into consideration.
Happy Planning, friends!

  1. Yay, thank you for another planner review. It is fun to explore different styles. There is something tactile about using a pen on paper to help me remain centered. You always have wonderful content.

  2. Do you plan to have a 2018 planner that has a month at a glance – predated week with pre stamped half hour increment appointment slots with a daily expense box at the bottom of each day and previous month as well as the next month displayed. I am hoping to see a skinnier version with smaller spiral binding for easier handling. I love your product but can’t work with the short fat version, it is difficult to handle with all of my other files being 8.5 x 11. ???
