I received a surprise package in the mail from Origins the other day with some goodies from their updated GinZing line. As many of you know, I have been an Origins enthusiast for several years now. I posted about my morning and nighttime skincare routines featuring Origins products a few months ago. I was excited to see a new moisturizer in their lineup as well as some cosmetic items. I thought I’d share my first impressions with you.
The Origins GinZing line is marketed as “high-performance skin energizers,” using extracts from coffee beans to “‘wake up’ tired, dull skin.” I’ve used the GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream (net wt. 0.5 oz./15 ml US$30.00) for a couple of years now with great results. It’s the perfect eye cream to pair with my holy grail skincare/makeup favorite, Origins VitaZing (1.7 fl. oz./50 ml US$35.00). My eyes go from sleepy looking to wide awake after applying this light yet moisturizing cream. I’m excited to see how the brand new moisturizer and makeup stand up to this awesome pick-me-up eye cream!
As I mentioned, I have used and loved the GinZing eye cream for years. The GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer (1.7 fl. oz./50 ml US$26.50) is new to me, however, and I have only tried it a handful of times, so these are just my first impressions of the product. This milky white cream’s texture is light and it feels airy on the skin. Breathability is a very important aspect of any moisturizer for me, especially during the summer months when my combination type skin turns oily. I haven’t used it long enough to comment on the product’s claimed rejuvenating effect, but I will say that the light citrus scent is a definite pick-me-up! I don’t care for heavily scented skincare, but the GinZing moisturizer scent is extremely light and dissipates gradually within ten minutes of wear. In fact, the cream settles perfectly into the skin after only a few moments, lending to a very natural finish with absolutely no greasy residue. It is a delightful product and I look forward to working it into my daily skincare routine.
I was excited to see some makeup products added to the GinZing lineup as well, as I am a beauty girl at heart. I’ve actually only ever tried Origins lip glosses from their permanent makeup line (which are lovely, I might add!). I’ve been using the Origins GinZing Brightening Mascara (0.47 fl. oz./14 ml US$17.50) for the past few days. I was a bit skeptical at first, because I prefer waterproof formulas and this one makes no indication of water resistance on the packaging. I was delighted to find that not only is it an awesome formula that both volumizes and lengthens as promised, but it stays put on my lashes without smudging for an entire day of wear even in the peak of the summer heat and humidity here in the Midwest. I can’t get over the soft and natural effect of this mascara. Winner! I haven’t had any issues with clumping, as some of the reviews on the Origins website have indicated. The GinZing mascara is quickly becoming my new favorite!
I also received two of the GinZing Brightening Cream Eye Shadows (net wt. 0.17 oz./5 g US$17.50), including Coffee Buzz, a taupe-toned brown, and Perkle, a purple-toned grey. I have not yet had a chance to play with these aside from swatching (I apologize for the terrible swatch photos – I’m still figuring out the right lighting and setting for those!). From what I can tell they apply smoothly, seem true to color, and have great staying power, all things I look for in cream eye shadows. These shades will be lovely come fall and winter and I look forward to using them as bases for the more taupe/grey toned eye looks I gravitate towards in the cooler months.
All in all, I am very impressed with the newly expanded GinZing lineup. Origins never disappoints me! I am enjoying using these products and am always excited to see what’s new from my favorite skincare line.
