New Travel Series

I wanted to give you a bit of a sneak peek into what’s coming up next on OLJ for videos and blog posts next month.  Although I am taking a break from posting home organization content for the remainder of the summer, I still want to remain active with my videos and blog posts.  Packing and travel prep are passions of mine and I thought that August would be the perfect time to share a new travel series.  I’ve made lots of packing videos over the past three years, but I’ve never shared my all-time favorite packing and travel necessities in dedicated videos or posts.  Here’s a sneak peek at the next four weeks of content…

OJ|OLJ 7:26:2013I’m planning on kicking off my travel series next Friday with a look at my favorite checked luggage.  The following Friday I will feature my current carry-on bags.  After that I will share my carry-on and inflight necessities.  I will end the series with a carry-on challenge, where I will attempt to pack for a three-night trip using my Vera Bradley Weekender bag as a carry-on (no checked luggage!).  As some of you might already know, I never pack just carry-ons for travel, because it is too difficult to do when traveling with my husband and all of his things.  I thought it would be a fun challenge for me to attempt and might be interesting to those who like to travel with carry-ons only.  There might also be a fun giveaway at the end of this series featuring some of my favorite packing products. 😉

I am excited to share more about my love for travel prep and packing with you.  Stay tuned!

  1. I love watching your packing videos and find it so funny that you are doing a carry-on challenge!

I packed in my Sherpani just like yours (I think the smaller than yours) and my large speedo backpack for 3 weeks in 3 different climates (FL, MN, and AZ). I was amazed that I could fit everything I needed for all three trips including a winter coat since it was December! I haven’t checked a bag on most of the flights I’ve taken but I’m starting to thanks to flying Southwest all the time to go to LA!

      1. I’m about to travel to LA for 24 days and I’m thinking about doing some video stuff showing how I packed with that because I think it would be really interesting to share with people how I pack for both myself and my service dog Bella for a trip that long!

    1. I don’t feel that way. I love packing and sharing my own tips and tricks. I’ve been wanting to share my favorite packing picks for awhile now.

      1. Well, maybe packing isn’t for everyone. But I think the new series is much awaited! Personally I’ll be moving to Europe from Australia in a few months, so Jen’s packing videos have helped me immensely. I’ve seen the previous ones, and think your ‘carry-on challenge’ could just be the thing to help me get what I …..really need… over there. Tough one.

        As always, thank you Jen!

    2. I agree she’s running out of ideas. She showed her office that didn’t have much change, well she took things off the shelf and replaced them with storage boxes. She have shown a few videos on packing and what she likes to pack and what luggage she pack them in,NOW she wants to show us her favorite checked luggage and carry-on bags…yada yada yada.Yeah time to move on.

      1. I share my own likes and interests. I don’t feel as if I’m “running out of ideas.” I’m sorry if you feel my content is redundant. I hope you find the inspiration you are searching for.

        1. I miss be missing something. What’s the big deal. If your not interested in something don’t watch it. I love it all. Thanks for always taking the time to share Jenn.

  2. I can’t wait. I’m leaving for 5 days in Vegas at the end of Sept. I already invested in the Eagle Creek packing cubes at your suggestion. Hopefully my suitcase will look somewhat like yours!

  3. I am beyond excited about this! I love your packing videos. In fact, I found your channel from your Disney World carryon video. I have a couple of trips coming up too, so this will be perfect timing! Thanks, Jen!

  4. I’m super excited for this!
you introduced me to eagle creek packing cubes, and it has been a lifesaver. even my friends and husband now use them!

can’t wait to learn more tips 🙂

i’m always either an over-packer or under-packer. I can never find the right balance…

  5. I’m looking forward to the carry-on challenging. I’ve recently started travelling on short trips for business and travel with just a carry-on. I’m finding it really tough to take everything I need for me plus my laptop and business papers! Not used to packing light.

  6. I love packing too Jen! I get a thrill from packing and getting things organized. Please do beading videos as it is a passion of mine. Continue your packing videos and ignore those who speak I’ll of you. A lot of us love you and your vlogs!

  7. How exciting! Can’t wait I was lucky enough to purchase the Vera Bradley carry-on when it was on sale and I have to say I love it! It’s so pretty LOL! Thank you for sharing I would have never known about this carry-on if it wasn’t for you or your videos. 🙂

  8. I’m so excited! I can’t wait for your take on the “carry on only” part of travel! The more I travel, the less I bring and I’m always looking for beauty and bath products I can take on my carry on. Good luck!

  9. Awesome!!! I received the VB Roll Along Tote as a birthday gift from my niece (more like a daughter). She gave me the tote & a set of the cosmetic bags. I used it on a cruise, but not on a flight. We’re cruising to Puerto Rico in November & flying back. I can’t wait to use it!!! I’m looking forward to some more packing tips to use on my upcoming trip!! Thanks for all the good ideas!!!

  10. Yay for your favorites! I have thought more than once how I would love compilations of your favorites in all sorts of categories! I would love to see any favorites in any areas that you haven’t already done, i.e. housewife essentials, cleaning tools, etc. Can’t wait for the videos and blogposts coming up!

  11. 3 days? You can do it! 🙂 I just got back from a 10 day trip to see my sister and all I packed was a carry on! She was impressed as was I and it was so great to not have to check luggsge

  12. Hi from Australia Jen! 😀
I’m planning to study abroad in the USA next year, so excited for this packing series! All your packing videos give me awesome ideas! Thanks Jen!!

  13. Yay!! So looking forward to this packing series! All of the parts of the series sound awesome!! Fridays are going to be awesome in August!!
The carry-on challenge sounds neat too 🙂 Are you actually going on a 3 night trip, or is it going to be just for the purpose of a fun challenge?

    1. I’m not packing for an actual trip, but I thought I would try to pack similar items to what I brought for our recent long weekend trip in the bag.

  14. Does this mean you’re not sharing a new Pantry video? I’m updating my kitchen this summer, going through and adjusting the organization, putting new liner down. I was waiting on the Pantry video you hinted would be coming up soon, before tackling that big mess.

Your kitchen videos are very helpful, but most are a couple years old and ones I’ve already worked from. Was selfishly hoping for some new tweaks, like k-cup storage and mug/glass/random dish overflow.

    1. I still plan on tackling the pantry but have decided to wait until fall to do so. Good luck with your project!

  15. I’m so excited for this video!! I am traveling by plane for the first time and this will be so helpful. Thank you for sharing your tips and skill. I really appreciate it!!

  16. Cant wait to see these videos Jen, they are always so informative and helpful… Many thanks for taking the time to do this, and it’s a brilliant idea- best wishes from a UK subscriber.

  17. I enjoy all your VLOGS and BLOGS. I often watch “reruns” when you don’t post. I apologize for not responding to your e-mail when I won the Urban Decay giveaway. I ruptured a disk in my back and discovered I was having major e-mail issues at the same time. I still haven’t gotten my e-mail repaired, but I wanted you to know that I appreciate you sharing your and your family’s lives with the rest of us and I wish you well.

  18. Love your packing vidoes, they are so informative and you give a wealth of information. I look forward to some new ones.

  19. Hiya, I am Niamh, I am 13 years old and have watched every single one of your videos on every single one of your channels on youtube, read every single blog post you have put up liked every single photo on instagram (@princessniamhy101) and love you, I think you could say im a dedicated fan/subscriber, I take inspiration from you and I learnt how to look after my new puppy by watching what you do with winnie seen as she is a Lhasa Apso, another long haired dog, although I might cut her hair short because it is too hard for a busy 13 year old girl to handle, I love your ideas and I hope I could have a career like yours in the future, I would love to contact you somehow as I would love to have a successful blog and videos on youtube aswell. Please do a ‘Thngs you will need o be a successful blogger’ video, and a ‘How I got to be where I am’ video also. Love you Jen, lve from Niamh x

  20. I absolutely love your packing videos! I am/was planning a trip and because of you I got everything I needed and my parents didn’t. I also went to the container store travel sale because I saw your videos. I personally think those are my favorite. 🙂 I don’t find your stuff redundant if you keep improving on your old system.

I would love to see your carry-on challenge, especially with all your bathroom stuff!

  21. I’m really looking forward to this series. I always think of packing as mix of art and logic. Eagle Creek has been a favorite of mine for years. Not only are they practical and maximize use of space, but they are well made and last forever. My oldest ones I’ve had for at least 20 years.

I know it is summer, but would LOVE to see a carry-on only challenge for winter as part of the series. I’m going to be trying to do a 2 week cold weather cruise for the European Christmas markets with just an 18″ carry-on rolling bag and a personal item outbound and an expandable bag, personal item carry on with the 18″ bag checked coming home. This is going to be a challenge!

  22. LOVE these packing organization videos. They have improved my packing abilities x100, since I am definitely an over-packer! (I just like to be prepared!). I really want to invest in some Eagle Creek Pack-It cubes, but am just not sure what a good “starter-set” would be. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your videos! Love all your YouTube channels =)

    1. A good starter set for me would be one of each! A packing cube, half cube, tube cub and half tube cube. That way you can get a sense of each size and what it will hold for you before investing in additional pieces.

  23. I will be going on two overseas holidays in the next few months and both are much needed breaks. I will make sure to read this section of your blogs as it always helps to figure out how I am going to pack everything – especially all my purchases from overseas.

  24. Thanks Jen! I’ve been traveling alot lately and these videos really help. The more the merrier, no redundancy issues here! You are my GO TO GIRL!

  25. Hello Jennifer,

My husband and I are in the U.S.Army and we have (3) beautiful kids. We are station at Fort Knox, Ky right now. I just wanted to tell you that I do love watching your videos and stuff rather you post a new one or not. I love just love your thanksgiving videos. I hate to see all the negative feedback that some people say to you because I just feel like your a wonderful person who don’t deserve any of those comments. I feel like your doing a wonderful job and I pray that GOD just keep blessing you and your family with life and success. Have a beautiful bless day.
