Hello, friends! I’ve considered experimenting with a posting plan for awhile now. I tried a posting schedule out last spring (this seems to be a spring theme for me) and it didn’t really pan out. I’ve hesitated to try again since then because I’ve been uncertain about the regularity of my content, but I’ve gained so much momentum after condensing down to one YouTube channel a couple of months ago, so that’s not really an issue at the moment. I have loads of new content ideas I’m excited to share over the next couple of months so there’s really no better time than the present to give it a go.
I’m sharing a look at my desk right at this moment (I literally snapped this picture from my phone right before posting) with no tidying up or edits. I am doing this, because I believe that the state of my desk (and office and house in general) is an accurate reflection of the state of my mind. As you can see, my desk is not a jumbled mess, but it could be more organized and tidier. Same with my brain! Whenever I start to feel brain clutter creep in I like to develop a stratagem to help me better manage my time. This usually involves implementing some kind of structure. This process may not work for everyone, but it’s my go-to brain fixer upper that sweeps away the clutter before it can really take hold.
I have felt so energized lately with my content and the direction my videos and blog posts are taking. I have so much I want to share in any given week, but it feels like there just isn’t enough time in the day to fit everything in. I get so excited about what I’m working on that I’m losing balance in my personal time. As much as I relish time spent with my loved ones, lately I’ve missed a few things in order to work on my content. Making dedicated time for my family and friends is one of the top priorities in my life and I’d like to continue to honor that. I also strongly believe in the importance of taking care of myself in the ways that feed my soul, which also requires time out of the day. I feel like experimenting with adding a bit more defined structure to my posting schedule might allow me to share a good amount of content each week and hopefully restore balance in my personal life. Additionally, this might help me to do more work in advance so I can have content ready to go each week and avoid the pre-post/video scramble I am not so fond of. Scrambling leads to a messy desk and, you guessed it, brain clutter.
So, here’s what I’m proposing: I am going to run a 6-8 week experiment with using a content plan. I decided against using the word “schedule,” because I want this process to feel flexible and open to tinkering. Also, I hate making promises about posts or videos that I can’t always keep, due to life getting in the way. In calling it a plan, this new order feels comfortable in that it will provide some much needed structure for me at the moment without the rigidity of certain expectations. This is the plan, as of right now:
✻ Monday – No content
✻ Tuesday – Week In Review blog post & Vlog/Tag/Chit Chat style video
✻ Wednesday – Optional beauty/product review blog post
✻ Thursday – Beauty/Product/Stuff I Like blog post & video
✻ Friday – Optional Organization/Home/Travel blog post
✻ Saturday – Organization/Home/Travel blog post & video
✻ Sunday – Optional Book Nook blog post
This plan is subject to change of course, but I wanted to give you the rundown and reasonings behind it, so a) you can be in the know, and b) you can help me see how my experiment works. Your feedback is super important to me and I always value your opinions on my content. I’ll keep you posted if I decide this isn’t working for me and want to try something different. In the event that I stick to it for the next two months or so I’ll check in again and we can chat about how you feel about it and plans for the future. Please keep in mind that while I certainly hope to follow this plan, sometimes I might have to make adjustments based on what else is happening. That’s just life, though, and we’re all familiar with how things sometimes just don’t go to plan.
Ok, I feel like I’ve said the word “plan” about a thousand times, so I’m going to end this here. Thanks, as always, for your continued support and enthusiasm for what I do. I can’t wait to keep sharing with you! See you tomorrow 🙂
