My Morning Skincare Routine

For the second installment of my updated skincare regimen on TBBB, I am discussing my morning skincare routine.  Check My Nighttime Skincare Routine post if you missed it for product details and the accompanying video.

I like to cleanse and tone my face right after I wake up in the morning.  Not only is it refreshing but it prepares my skin for the day ahead.  I turn to the trusty Origins line in the morning just as with my nighttime routine.  I start by cleansing with Origin’s Check & Balances Frothy Face Wash.  I think of this cleanser as “toothpaste for the face,” due to its appearance, slightly minty scent, and its ability to make my skin feel so clean and refreshed.  I follow up with Origin’s United State Balancing Tonic, which I apply in a light, sweeping motion using Shiseido Facial Cottons.  After briefly fanning my face to allow the toner to set, I apply a light layer of A Perfect World Age-Defense Skin Guardian as my morning serum to my face, neck, and décolletage (I finally figured out that word!).

I follow up the serum with moisturizers.  I prefer using lightweight moisturizers in the morning, but I still enjoy products that effectively penetrate and hydrate the skin without sitting on top of it.  I’ve been using the Origins Starting Over Age-Erasing Eye Cream for several years now in the morning with great results.  I like using the Starting Over Age-Erasing Moisturizer in the late fall, winter, and early spring months.

I like to switch to oil-free moisturizers with sun protection for the late spring, summer, and early fall months.  I’m looking forward to trying out Origin’s newest moisturizer, the Plantscription SPF 25 Anti-Aging Oil-Free Cream* as we transition to late spring.

I take care of my lips as part of my overall skincare regimen.  In the morning I choose between one of two lip products.  I use the Dior Creme de Rose Lip Balm if I am going to be heading outside directly for a walk or run because it has SPF 10.  If I’m not going to be heading out immediately, I apply the Rosebud Salve in a Tube.  Both of these lip products are a bit on the heavier side, but sink in nicely and are effective moisturizers first thing in the morning.

There are a few additional skincare products I thought I’d mention that I don’t use every day, but are still an important part of my skincare collection.  I use Origins No Puffery to combat puffy eyes.  A light layer of this around the eye area does the trick.  I apply it after serum, let it dry completely, and then follow up with eye cream and moisturizer.  I keep a tub of LUSH’s Ocean Salt in my shower for the occasional exfoliation.  A little bit of this applied with extremely gentle pressure is all I need for a refreshing scrub.  I use Ocean Salt about twice a week.

Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream (photo source) & Origins VitaZing SPF 15 Energy-Boosting Moisturizer (photo source)

These last two skincare products aren’t necessarily part of my first-thing-in-the-morning skincare routine, but I wanted to include them because they are part of my overall skincare arsenal.  They also just happen to be two of my all time favorite Origins products.  I generally do a cardio workout first thing in the morning (after my morning skincare routine) and then follow up with a cross or strength training workout later in the morning.  I shower after this second workout.  I like to moisturize my skin after being in the shower.  The GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream has a light consistency with a highlighting effect.  If you’ve watched any of my beauty-related videos, you probably already know that I absolutely love Origin’s VitaZing.  I consider this to be a part skincare, part makeup product.  It acts as a nice daytime moisturizer that works on my skin year round.  I appreciate that it has SPF 15 for sun protection.  The best thing about VitaZing, however, is how it evens out my skin tone so well.  I rarely feel the need to apply any foundation or tinted face products other than a bit of powder after applying this moisturizer.

Origins was kind enough to send me five VitaZing moisturizers to give away.  Details for how to enter to win are included at the end of My Morning Skincare Routine video (shown below).

** If you’d like to be entered into the giveaway, you must leave your comment on the video’s webpage.  You can get to the webpage by clicking on the title on the top left corner of video shown below or visit TheBusyBeeBuzz channel page and select the video directly from there.  Comments left to this blog post will not be entered to win.**

*I am not affiliated with any of the brands mentioned in this blog post or coordinating video.  Origins graciously sent me the giveaway products shown in the video.  Origins also sent me the Plantscription SPF 25 Anti-Aging Oil-Free Cream as a gift to try.  All other products shown in this blog post and video were purchased by me.  Origins did not ask me to review or feature their products.  All opinions are my own.*

  1. I am a huge fan of Sage facial cleaners and toners. I believe they are a Canadian company and am not sure if they have any locations in the US.

Jen, I watched the video of Emilys baby shower and need to know where you found that wrapping paper. I have a dachshund so I am slightly obsessed.

  2. Have been using Suzanne somers organic/toxic free line for a while….love it too! I have some origins as well!

  3. I’m SO excited to try this origins stuff! My favorite skincare product of all time is my CLAIRSONIC! I could not live with out it.

  4. I just purchased that eye cream tonight, and then came home and watched your video! I can’t wait to start using it. I also picked up a sample of that serum, which I’m now even more excited to try after hearing your endorsement.

PS I love your blog and YouTube channel!

  5. I really like the Michael Todd line. You should check it out. I use the pumpkin mask, it’s really great. I also use the charcoal face wash and it makes my skin feel really clean.

    1. I adore the Michael Todd line too. It mades me feel like I’m at the spa every time I use it. I also like their mission about their quality. That’s not to say anything against Origins (because I haven’t paid much attention) just Michael Todd. 🙂

I have used Origins VitaZing and it was a great moisturizer but I didn’t find it to act like a tinted moisturizer for me, AT ALL. I wish it had because then it would be one of my favorites too. 🙂

  6. I love my Clarisonic with either my chanel cleanser or origins checks and balances. Absolutely LOVE Osmosis eye cream for my eyes.

  7. I love how thorough you are with everything you post on your blog to youtube videos. I use Apricot scrub as my daily facewash. I have very oily skin, so I try & stay away from creams/lotions. I have always found that they make my skin more oily. I have never tried Oeigins, but I think I might now 🙂 Oh, I did try the Clinique 3 step system, but I saw more redness when I used their product so I stopped using it.

  8. hi jen i just purchase the whole line of zero oil for my morning routine and perfect world for my night time routine, i hope my skin look younger and flawless like yours cant wait to start my new skin care routine still waiting for the package to deliver in philippines i love your youtube channel tc always

  9. I have yet to find a face wash that works for me, but I do love Ocean Salt from LUSH 🙂 I use it once a week in the summer just to smooth over my skin. I have tried Origins vita zing and loved it, i hope to explore Origins some more this summer 🙂

  10. Hi Jen, thank you for uploading your skin care routine. Your skin is perfect! I’ve yet to find the right face wash for me, as I have combination skin and sometimes I breakout. The products I have been trying up to now maybe are too aggressive, as they leave my skin too dry on my forehead which peels off 🙁 I found out I have to rotate/switch different products over the year, as after a while, my skin seems not to respond to some of them the way it should…

  11. I use Nivea Skincare products. However I just turned 32 today, so I might need to change it, to protect my skin as I get older.

  12. I would LOVE to try the Origins products! I have been looking for something that will work on my skin- this might be the answer!

  13. I love almost every Clinique product I have ever used, but if I had to pick one it would be their Moisture Surge Intense moisturizer. 🙂

Also I wanted to thank you for being such a nice and generous person. I don’t think that many people would have chosen to give the products they received as a gift, especially if they loved them as much as you do.

  14. Hi Jen,
I have older skin (cuz’ I’m older, Ha!) and I love the Clarisonic. I’ve found that I have to change my products every now and again. One of my go to products is BAKING SODA! I use it on my skin and teeth and then I even clean up after myself with it. I wish it came in bigger sizes. Thanks for the videos Jen. I would love to try the Origins brand.

  15. I use Avon Nutra Cream as a moisturizer in the am after I apply my Rosecea medicines. I am looking for something to even out my skin tone since I don’t wear much makeup anymore. I mainly wash, and moisturize and hit the road. LOL Thanks for all you do!

    1. I took a couple weeks off but hope to post one for this upcoming week. Like I said in the first one, they may not happen every week but probably most weeks 🙂

  16. I’m using the CVS “clarisonic” and it’s made a huge difference in my skin. Thanks for doing the videos and giveaways!

  17. I use Clinique skin care, and my favorite product is the Dramatically Different Moisturizer. It’s fabulous!!

  18. WAIT a minute. Jen, you go through that whole skincare routine just to work out after it?? And then you wash all that off in the shower and re apply different creams to go out for the day? Is it me or is this incredibly wasteful?

    1. I like to cleanse & moisturize my face first thing. Just because I’ll be working out doesn’t change the fact that my skin likes my routine. You have to find out what works for you and your skin. It might not necessarily be what works for me and mine.

  19. I love Clinique moisture surge and also Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair!!
I would like to try Origins products in the future!!

  20. Hi Jen,

I LOVE your videos!!! Slightly obsessed with watching them : ) Sorry if that sounds creepy… I’m not creepy, I promise ; ) Wow, I have digressed haven’t I? The reason I wanted to leave a comment is to tell you about a polish blog that I have been following for forever… I thought you might enjoy it, if you haven’t already stumbled across it on your own. It’s Kristina Werner’s blog, she is a graphic designer, and I have been following her design blog for at least 5 or 6 years now. Anyhow, she is obsessed with all things polish, and gives great tutorials and ideas along the way. I will leave a link for you, and maybe you can check it out. Hopefully you will love it as much as I do.

  21. Okay I just wanted to say I absolutely love all your videos and even though I just recently found your channels you have been a huge inspiration for me to live a more healthy and organized lifestyle. I am currently 14 years old and training to run a 10k race in Disney world in January of 2014. I just started running and I hope it all works out. So basically think you for being a role model to me and many people and please never stop making videos 🙂

  22. I wasn’t able to leave a post on the rafflecopter so I am posting here. I hope that is ok. I love the origins products that I have recently started using but I don’t have very many. I use the white tea based eye cream as well as the body lotion. The smell is amazing!

    1. Yes, Rafflecopter enters you once you leave a comment to this blog post. You entered successfully! 🙂

  23. Jen, you said that a while back you had a problem with acne. Did you use a different Origins product, and if so which one or ones? I have been looking for a skin care routine for my adult acne proned skin and thought I might try Origins. Thanks for all of you videos, I enjoy watching you, Winnie, and Don.

    1. In my Nighttime Skincare Routine video I include links to my skincare videos from 2011 where I talked more in-depth about my adult acne issues. Check those out if you’re interested in hearing more about it. My skin definitely started turning around once I switched to Origins (I was using very expensive french skincare before that…).

  24. I’ve been using philosophy products for the past 2 years. Really enjoy purity face wash but thinking of trying out something new!

  25. First of all you have inspired me to do a better job with cleaning my face. Most of the time i’m just to lazy (especialy at night) ,but your video made me want to do it. So thanks for that! 🙂
The product i love the most is my all in one cleanser. It scrubs, cleans and is a mask as well. And the reason i love it is because it saves time haha. Like i said i can be a lazy woman. Ps. I love your video’s and i check multiple times a day if there is a new one uploaded.

  26. I enjoy your videos and your 3 channels a lot!! I am from Argentina and recently travelled to the US and got Vitazing I love it. I also wash my face and apply a toner, before I apply the Vitazing of course. The toner is from Laca ( argentine brand) and it has green tea in it. very good too. You are very sweet and helped me a lot with organizing my home. thank you!

  27. Also we drink a lot of mate in Argentina. It is the national drink! It surprised me alot when I realized you blend mate!

  28. I’ve never tried Origins before. Lately, I’ve been using a mix of different oils and they seem to be working, but I’m not 100% sure I’m in love with what I’m using. Right now I’m on the hunt for my Holy Grail eye cream.

  29. I sad watching one of your old vlogs and wondered if you could do a blog post or a video on becoming a housewive and the steps you took. Also I felt bad because I asked if you were still doing the week in review posts. I did not want you to feel I was pressuring you or being rude.

  30. I use mainly Olay products. I have used expensive skincare before and it actually didn’t perform the same as good ol’ Olay on my skin.

  31. I really like the Neutrogena Natural collection. It’s gentle, but it gets all the make-up off really well. For those nights when I’m not in the mood to wash my face, I love the UP & UP face wipes from Target. They don’t make me break out and that way, I don’t feel guilty about falling asleep with make-up! Both of these products are really affordable, so I love that, too! 🙂

  32. I’m in love with clay maskes and apricot scrubs from Olay, for sensitive skin and then I used a various of dermasil face creams

  33. LOVE LOVE LOVE Origins products. Just recently switched after watching your older routine videos. Thank you for introducing me to these products!!!

  34. I use Neutrogena Naturals line. However, I got an Ocean Salt sample from Lush a fee months ago and I have been using a little on my face and I’m loving the results!! When the sample runs out, I plan to purchase the full size,

  35. I love the fact that some of the products are sfp25 – that is a big decision maker for me. I do not use as many products as you but i would if i could afford it lol
