Miscellaneous Monthlies: June 2014

Can you believe we’re officially halfway through 2014?  Time flies when you’re having fun!  I like to kick off the beginning of a new month with my monthly favorites mini series videos on TBBB, starting with my Miscellaneous Monthlies where I share some of my favorite things from the past month (not including beauty – my Beauty Buzz update is coming soon!) with you.

Clothes & Accessories

OJ_TBBB_07-03-2014_01✻ Merona Women’s Slub Tank – The little sailboats combined with the bright robin’s egg blue color and flowy fit makes this the perfect casual summer tank for me! Target, $10

✻ Merona Women’s Favorite Button Down Shirt  – I just love the cute pineapples on this shirt! It’s a nice lightweight fabric, which is perfect for cooler summer days or evenings.  Target, $22.99

✻ Tamsin Maxi Dress – I am always hesitant to buy stripes like these since my curvy figure can be overly accentuated with that kind of design, but I took a chance and I am so glad I did!  Anthropologie, $118

✻ Capuchina Dress – This gorgeous maxi drapes beautifully.  I love the tie around sash and criss cross back!  I enjoyed wearing both maxi dresses on our vacation to the Dominican Republic last month. Anthropologie, $138

OJ_TBBB_07-03-2014_03✻ Mae Movement Bracelets – This is a great mother and daughter run small business that helps to support female artisans in Nepal.  I preordered these beauties in late spring knowing they would be the perfect bright summer accessories.  I’ve been wearing them so much this past month!  I love how you can mix and match and make your own combinations. $13 each or 3 for $36

Dogeared Whale Necklace – I’ve been a big fan of Dogeared jewelry for over a year now.  This little whale is one of my favorite pieces for summer.  It’s delicate and dainty, but sweet and whimsical at the same time.  $58

OJ_TBBB_07-03-2014_02Kate Spade Cobbie Hill Little Curtis – This bag is the perfect summer sidekick!  It’s a comfortable fit and size and the color is stunning.  I will post a Bag Buzz on this shortly, which you can check out if you’re interested in more details. $278 $194! Save an additional 25% with code MORESALE at checkout (expires 7/6/2014).

✻ Kate Spade Diana Rectangular Sunglasses – I was so happy to quickly find a replacement for the Tory Burch sunglasses I sadly lost last month.  They have a compact frame that fits my narrow face like a glove.  Amazon, $83

kikki.K iPnone Case – If you’re not familiar with the awesomeness that is kikki.K, I highly recommend hopping on over to their website and taking a look.  This Australian-based company makes the cutest home accessories and office supplies!  I picked up this phone case on super sale earlier this year knowing it would be great for summer.  Sadly, this design is now discontinued.

OJ_TBBB_07-03-2014_04✻ Choose Happiness Candle – I love the uplifting scent combination of yuzu and lime in this cute glass jar.  It’s a nice addition to my main filming backsplash in my home office where it sits next to a handmade candy jar sent to me by a viewer and my bee cookie jar, another sweet gift from a fan.

Trapp N. 4 Orange/Vanilla Candle – Don gave me this candle as a gift last year and I tucked it away knowing the soft creamsicle-like scent would be perfect for summer.  It’s not overpowering or too sweet and burns nicely in combination with the Choose Happiness candle.

Books, TV, & Music

✻ The One & Only by Emily Giffin – I received this book in my June PopSugar Must Have box.  I’ve never read anything by this author before, but I know she is very popular.  This book is a quick and easy chick-lit style read that I thoroughly enjoyed.  If you like romances, this might be up your alley!

✻ The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty – I picked up this book on the recommendation of Amarixe on YouTube.  The plot focuses on the six degrees of separation theory that we’re all connected whether we know each other or not and that our actions have a ripple affect that we are rarely, if ever, aware of.  It’s an interesting and thoughtful read about human behavior and community.

✻ The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien – Don & I listened to this audio book on a couple of car trips we took last month.  We both are huge LOTR fans and wanted a refresher of this classic before the third The Hobbit movie is released later this year.  We both very much enjoyed the narrator (Rob Inglis) who did a great job with the different voices of all of the characters and songs woven throughout the story.

✻ Bossypants by Tina Fey – I’m an Audible convert and have signed up for an account where I get a credit every month that I can use to get a new audiobook.  I’m halfway through Bossypants, which is narrated by Tine Fey herself.  I enjoy listening to this while I knit either at home or when traveling.  It’s laugh out loud funny!

Special Offer!  Get your first three months at Audible.com for $7.49/month by clicking here.

✻ The Big Bang Theory Season 5 & Season 6 – I mentioned last month that Don & I were enjoying catching up on TBBT and we continued that in June by finishing Season 5.  We’ve only just started Season 6.  This is an easy and fun show to watch and enjoy together.

✻ Ed Sheeran x and + – I am a new Ed Sheeran convert, as only recently becoming exposed to his music by watching an older FleurDeVlog vlog on YouTube where she went to one of his concerts.  Once I downloaded his album I was hooked!  His newest album, x, is my current music obsession which I keep playing on a loop.  If you like acoustic guitar-style music and clever lyrics, you might want to check him out!

Tasty Treats

OJ_TBBB_07-03-2014_05✻ Zing Anything Citrus Zinger – Another PopSugar Must Have acquisition, this water bottle is super handy for making citrus-infused water.  My favorite combination is to squeeze a quarter of a lemon with some freshly picked mint from my garden.  The built in reamer also acts as a partition to keep the big bits and pieces from floating into the main reservoir.  What a nifty device! Amazon, $22

✻ LifeFactory Water Bottle – I am often asked about my glass water bottle so I decided to include it this month even though it is always a favorite of mine.  I prefer the 22 ounce size, which helps me easily keep track of my water intake throughout the day.  Amazon, $22

✻ Milk & Honey Original Cafe Mix Granola – Now that it’s officially summer, I am back to my favorite summer breakfast of Greek yogurt mixed with honey, berries, and granola.  This blend is my favorite!

✻ Trader Joe’s Chocolate Covered Sea Salt Butterscotch Caramels – This was a surprise “just because” gift from my Mom and a very delicious one at that!  I’m a little sorry I know about these now because they’re quite dangerous to have around! 😉

  2. Enjoyed your monthly favourites, as always. I was glad to see you shared some pictures of the maxi dresses on because I was curious after seeing your haul – they fit you like a glove and look lovely!

I read The Husband’s Secret near the start of 2014 – just crazy that we’re already half way through – and found it to be a nice, easy read. It can be a hard one to sum up without giving too much of the plot away but you worded it just perfectly.

    Thanks for sharing!
    🙂

  3. Hi Jen,
I just wanted to say that I love Audible. It is awesome to knit and listen to your favourite book at the same time. I also listen when I am in the bath – then you don’t get wet pages.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Fleur x

  4. HI Jen,

You are looking gorgeous! BTW I am obsessed with your yellow and white bedding. Please tell me where you got it???
    Thanks!

  5. Loved your monthlies this go ’round!
I purchased the Cobble Hill Little Curtis – with the code ‘MORESAVE’ I saved an extra 25%.
Can’t wait for a sneak at your bag buzz so I can see what I have to look forward to.
Now, to resist that Tamsin Maxi Dress that fits you like a dream…

  6. Jen, good call on taking a chance with the Tamsin dress. You look stunning in it. The stripes shape your body nicely. You look fantastic.

  7. Hi, Jen –

Your Lily Pulitzer dress sparked an idea…
Have you ever thought of repurposing your beautiful dresses into an apron or small doll quilt for your adorable niece?

    Happy 4th of July!

    1. That is a cute idea, but I think I like the thought of someone else enjoying the dress even more. I’m going to donate it. 🙂

  8. Jen, love watching your videos. You are such a beautiful person inside and out. Absolutely love your taste in everything. Winnie is just so adorable. Keep up the great work Jen. From a fan in Australia.

  9. Hi I was wondering how the Capuchini dress runs and how is the fit? I have a evening wedding in August by the lake to attend and I really do think it would be perfect for the occasion!

    Thanks so much!

    1. For me it runs true to size. I am generally a small and this one fits me perfectly. The material drapes beautifully although it is not forgiving at the waist, if you know what I mean 😉
