I wanted to share about the transitional and maternity clothing I’ve purchased over the course of my pregnancy so far. I’m just 17 weeks now, but I’ve already found tried and true pieces that have carried me through the past couple of months and others that I’m looking forward to wearing for the remainder of my second trimester. This includes every day items I rotate through in my wardrobe from workout gear to casual wear.

I was fortunate to feel pretty well during my first trimester, although I did experience major bloating throughout the entire period. I started wearing my loosest clothing to conceal the bloat since it was still so early in my pregnancy and I didn’t want anyone outside of my immediate family to know just yet. I purchased a few layering pieces in larger sizes as well as comfy, roomy t-shirts to wear when traveling to supplement my wardrobe. These items still work for me in my second trimester as well.

Around 5-6 weeks I started getting terrible belly aches whenever I was out of the house. It took me a surprisingly long time to make the connection that my pre-pregnancy pants were the culprit. At 7 weeks I bit the bullet and decided to buy a few pairs of maternity pants. This ended up being one of the best decisions I made during my first trimester as the amazing belly band attached to the new pants allowed for me to leave the house without pain. I’m so happy I purchased these items even if it seemed a bit on the early side, because I’ve gotten so much use out of them already!

The other part of my wardrobe I needed to update very early on in my pregnancy was my bras. I went up an entire size within a week of my positive pregnancy test! I sized up in my pre-pregnancy favorite, Victoria’s Secret Body By Victoria Perfect Coverage Bra. This swap has carried me through so far, but I anticipate possibly needing to size up again before all is said and done.
I also decided to make adjustments to my workout clothing options early on in my pregnancy. I purchased a couple pairs of shorts in a larger size to accommodate the first trimester bloat as well as several loose fitting inexpensive tanks from Target for comfort and concealment. Of course, I also needed to size up in my sports bras. Towards the end of my first trimester, it became clear I could no longer comfortably wear my pre-pregnancy yoga legging capris, so I purchased an amazing pair from Nordstrom that I absolutely love. I also recently bought a knee length pair and a super soft yoga top to hopefully carry me through the rest of my pregnancy.

I’ve been able to wear a lot of the tops and dresses I purchased this spring up until this point, but now that I’m well into my second trimester it’s becoming apparent that those days are numbered. We’re only halfway through the warm weather season here in the midwest, so I knew I’d need some pieces to carry me through until the fall chill settles in.
I’ve shopped for maternity wear mostly at Destination Maternity up until this point, which has served my needs for the most part when it comes to basics, but I haven’t been able to find the style of tops and dresses I prefer. I was so happy when the nice folks at Pink Blush Maternity reached out to me as I’d never heard of that shop before. They very kindly offered to send me a few items of my choice (marked with an asterisk* below). I like them so much I purchased several more myself. I’ll definitely be shopping there again when fall rolls around.
