Lifestyle Favorites | September 2015

September is one of my favorite months because it’s when Don and I celebrate our wedding anniversary.  It also happens to be when summer turns to fall, which is always a beautiful time of year in the midwest.  I’m excited to share some of my favorite things from the past month with you, ranging from clothing, accessories, and beauty items to home goods, multi-media picks, and food.

All image sources that are not originally my own photos are from the links provided below.  Please be advised that some of the links provided are affiliate links and I do receive a small commission if you make a purchase using those links.  This does not cost you any extra when you make a purchase.  I very much appreciate your support of this blog in doing so!

Clothes & Accessories

I flew quite a few times over the course of the summer, including some longer travel days in September with our babymoon/anniversary trip to Hawaii.  I was so happy to have found the perfect pregnancy travel outfit for comfort on those flights!

❊ Gap Maternity V-Neck Linen Tee – I talked about this t-shirt in my July Favorites, but it bears repeating since it’s an essential part of my maternity airplane outfit.  I love how lose, airy, and cool this top is.  It’s my perfect basic maternity tee on or off the plane.

❊ Splendid French Terry Maternity Leggings – These are the best everyday-wear maternity leggings, in my opinion, and definitely worth the splurge!  They are 100% opaque in a high quality mid-weight fabric.  The belly band is super stretchy and comfortable, as well.

❊ Motherhood Maternity Long Sleeve Swing Sweater – I wanted a mid-weight open style cardigan that had enough fabric to both cover my tush and wrap around my belly when I got cold.  This one worked perfectly on our flights and I’ve started wearing it regularly now that the weather at home is getting cooler.

❊ Tiffany Shared-Setting Band Ring – I’ve received many questions about the sparkly new eternity band I’ve been sporting this past month.  It was a 10th anniversary gift from my sweet husband, Don, and I absolutely love it! ❤︎

My beauty favorites from September are all travel-friendly products that I enjoyed using both on vacation and at home.

❊ Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette – I picked this up on a whim at Ulta over the summer thinking it would make a great travel palette since it’s quite small.  I had no idea I would love it so much!  It’s the perfect neutral palette for me with good color pay-off and blendability.

❊ Josie Maran Coconut Water Cheek Gelée in Poppy Paradise – This product is further proof that sometimes those little impulse purchases in the checkout line at beauty stores turn out to be gems!  I grabbed this travel size blush at Sephora and it turned out to be a favorite last month.  It’s super easy to apply and leaves a beautiful, natural glow on the cheeks.

❊ Mineral Fusion Sheer Moisture Lip Tint in Coral Shimmer – Another easy on-the-go, no fuss kind of product, this lip crayon has been in my bag and on my lips all month.  I love how easy it is to apply without a mirror.

I started painting my nails again after many months off and have really enjoyed using SpaRitual nail polishes.  I wore Strawberry Fields Forever, a gorgeous orchid pink, for the first half of the month, and Garden of Eden, a terra cotta rose shimmer, for the latter half.  Both wore beautifully!

Home Goods

I recently switched up our dishwasher detergent from an old favorite to a new one.  I’ve used the Seventh Generation Natural Dishwasher Detergent Packs for many years now with good results.  I picked up The Honest Co. Dishwasher Packs earlier in the month just to try them and found I like them even better!  They deliver great results with no residue.  Interestingly, they get terrible reviews on Amazon, but I’ve had only super clean and clear dishes using them.

Multi-Media

september 2015 favorites multi-media

Friends (Season 2) – Don and I started watching Friends again.  It’s our third time in 13 years!  Friends never fails to make me laugh and warm my heart.  It’s a feel-good kind of show that I love watching when I’m in the mood for light entertainment.

Jewel – Picking Up The Pieces – Jewel released her latest album this past month and I’ve been listening to it on repeat ever since.  I’ve been a huge Jewel fan for many years and love her folk/county blend sound and moving lyrics.  I’ve also been listening to her Lullaby album when I’m in the need for some soothing tunes.

❊ In The Unlikely Event by Judy Blume – I finally got around to reading a non-baby related book for the first time in months while we were on vacation!  I received this one in a Popsugar Must Have Box earlier this summer.  I loved Judy Blume books as a girl and was curious to see how her adult fiction stacked up.  I enjoyed the compelling storyline and characters, but wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with a fear of flying.

RachhLoves – I tend to catch up with my favorite YouTubers by watching a bunch of their videos at once instead of whenever they upload a new one.  I circled back to RachhLoves, one of my of favorite beauty gurus, this past month.  I love Rachel’s quirky, down-to-earth personality and fun editing style.  I especially enjoy her haul and review videos.  You can’t help but feel the positivity radiating from this cheery gal!

SeatGuru.com – Don and I both use this website whenever we’re traveling for honest reviews of airplanes and airplane seats.  It’s a great little tool to ensure you’re comfortable on your next flight and we both highly recommend it!

Tasty Treats

september 2015 favorites tasty treats3 Ingredient Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins.  Need I say more?  I was casually scrolling through Instagram one day and happened upon these delectable treats, which I immediately got the ingredients to make for myself.  They are absolutely scrumptious!  And super easy to make!  Win Win!!

I love that the pumpkin replaces any eggs, oils, or butter as the wet ingredients.  Of course, they’re not all that healthy considering they have a lot of sugar and a heck of a lot of chocolate chips in them.  Did I mention they’re super easy to make, though?  I’ve only known about them for the last week or so of the month, but they definitely qualify as my favorite.  I have one (or two! 😉 ) every day!  This is a fall treat at its finest, in my humble opinion.

  1. In September I made a pumpkin crunch cake that was so very good! I have been reading David Baldacci’s The Escape. It holds your interest right away. Great book. Almost done. I am trying those pumpkin muffins tonight. They look wonderful!! Thank you for sharing your favorites. I definitely want to get back in the habit of doing my nails too!! It’s nice to feel pretty!

  2. Jen,
Loved your video as usual. The one thing that stuck has always stuck out to me is our similarities in trying to keep our diets and homes free of as many chemicals as possible. After watching the cosmetics portion I had to contact you (so not my style) but especially since you are pregnant….I learned during my own pregnancy about the toxicity in cosmetics/shampoos/skin care. Our skin is our biggest organ, and everything we put on it goes into our bloodstream (and our babies) I came across beautycounter a couple of years ago and was ELATED. Finally….a company that puts our health first! Before I knew it, my entire family was using the products…it was only a natural progression to become a distributor and spread the word! So please, just browse our products, check out our ratings on ewg.org. We fully disclose all ingredients. I’d love to answer any questions you might have (the baby sunblock is AMAZING!!) many many blessings to you and Don! http://www.beautycounter.com/karenmitchell-carroll

  3. muffins look really good…have recently beenlow sugar recipe online seeing a nutritionalist re better health…am on allowance of 12mg sugar in every 100mg so there’s lots I now can’t have and I reckon the muffins are out…trying not to use sweeteners (ugh)…am sure I’ll find a low-sugar recipe online…really enjoying your vlogs and blogs…many happy days with your beooutiful ring…congrats on a decade xx

  4. The beginning of this video was so funny, ” I don’t even know what I’m saying” lol! I’m reading Gone Girl right now and In the Unlikely Event is next so I’m glad to hear it is a good read. Thanks for sharing your favorites, I look forward to this video every month. Enjoy October!

  5. Not that the pumpkin spice muffins aren’t delicious but they are super processed with the cake mix and depending on the chocolate you use.

You seem more concerned with the body/makeup products you use than what you eat. Shouldn’t there be a balance? Seemed like you used to use less boxed products.

    1. I still stick by the 80/20 rule where I do my best to eat clean 80% of the time and don’t worry about the other 20% – it works well for me 🙂

  6. I have been making those muffins for the last few years!! Totally agree….so awesome!! I do recommend you use cinnamon chips instead of chocolate chips!!! Adds that extra WOW to them. You can find them where you find the chocolate chips. I get mine at Walmart!!

  7. Great post, Jen! Loving the makeup products! You should do a post that speaks to your shift to using mineral and more natural ingredient products over the last few years, especially with your cosmetics. From your recommendations, I’ve found myself using some Pacifica and Bare Minerals products lately, and I really love that they apply so well and have less icky chemicals than other brands. Thanks for reading! 🙂

  8. I loved some Nivea products like the NIVEA Q10 Plus Anti-Wrinkle Day Cream SPF 15 and the Nivea care,I really liked them..
And aso some Yves Rocher shower gel, with great smells..
Thank you for the video and the lovely giveaway!
    Wish you a fab weekend!
