Lifestyle Favorites | October 2016

Happy Halloween!  No tricks here, though.  Just my usual monthly post where I share some of my favorite things, ranging from clothing, accessories, and beauty items to home goods, multi-media picks, and tasty treats.

Clothes & Accessories

❊ Patagonia Re-Tool Snap-T Fleece Pullover – I bought this cozy, plush pullover last year when I was pregnant and found I was just too hot to wear it at the time.  This fall is a different story, though!  I’ve basically lived in it for the past few weeks as the weather has turned crisp at last in the midwest.  It’s my go-to to pop on for morning walks with my girls and to run errands.  It is incredibly soft and warm.  I feel like I’m being hugged by a giant teddy bear every time I wear it!

❊ iPhone 7 Plus  – I’ve had major iPhone Plus envy ever since I purchased one as a gift for my husband last year.  I’m glad I waited until the iPhone 7 was released.  The new features such as the camera upgrades and water resistant casing were worth the wait.  I’m obsessed!  And of course, I immediately bought one of my favorite Sonix cases for added protection (and cuteness!).  They’re sleek and lightweight and add just the right amount of texture around the edges to make the phone less slippery in my hand.

❊ Ulta Miss Fabulous Eyeshadow Palette – Jenny Fox, one of my favorite beauty YouTubers and just a really sweet person all around, released this beautiful eyeshadow palette in collaboration with Ulta a couple of months ago.  She was kind enough to send me one as a gift (no strings attached, I promise!) along with a super cute outfit for my daughter, Charlotte.  I don’t wear a full eyeshadow look every day but when I do, I’ve only been reaching for this palette.  It includes a wonderful variety of warm-toned shades perfect all year round but especially for fall.  I love how soft and buildable the colors are.  At just $20 it’s a great price for the makeup lover.

Home Goods

Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Apple Cider Dish Soap – I’ve been a fan of Mrs. Meyers cleaning products for many years, especially the dish soap and multi-purpose spray, which I use daily on my kitchen counters.  When I saw the apple cider limited edition scent at Target my heart skipped a beat.  I actually like doing the dishes.  I find it very calming.  Having an apple cider scented dish soap is the icing on the cake for this season gal.  It is a truly festive scent.  You can bet I ordered a whole bunch to last me through the holiday season!

❊ Views by Drake – I’m not that into rap music, but I do love Drake’s albums and always look forward to new ones.  His latest did not disappoint!  I’ve enjoyed listening to it while I work out lover the past couple of months.  I find the beats and tones he uses in his music help me feel focused and centered, which is great when I’m trying to pack a punch with a short workout.

❊ Pretty Little Liars – Season 6 – Every October I look forward to catching up on the last full season of PLL (I’m always a year behind because I like to wait and watch it all at once).  I know it’s a frivolous show, but I just love it.  I save it for October because it’s a bit spooky and it just fits with the season in my opinion!  The plot line gets more and more ridiculous each year, but I’m still smitten.  It’s just fun!

❊ Stick With Me Shop – I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole with planner stickers (for real this time) and I have another favorite shop/YouTube combo to share.  Jenny’s Plan With Me videos are my absolute favorite right now.  I’m hooked!  Her voice is so soothing and her spreads are so neat and too cute!  She also has a sticker shop that she only opens once a week or so since she works full time as a teacher.  You have to stalk her Instagram to know when she restocks because her stickers sell out super fast.  She draws and designs her own stickers.  I just received my first order and I’m already chomping at the bit to place another!  if you like planner stickers and watching PWM videos I highly recommend checking her out.

Tasty Treats

Three Ingredient Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins – They’re baaack!  Last year I discovered the joy of this super simple recipe and I made it over and over again throughout the fall and holiday season.  I’ve waited patiently for fall to roll around again and I’m back at it!  I’ve taken the advice so many have shared to substitute cinnamon chips.  I do half cinnamon, half chocolate chips and it’s divine!  I like warming the muffins up for about 20 seconds in the microwave and enjoying them with a hot cup of something scrumptious for a sweet treat.  Yum!

❊ Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Rooibos Tea – One of my favorite teas is finally back on the shelves at Trader Joe’s.  This tasty pumpkin spice rooibos is the perfect accompaniment to one of those delicious muffins.  I enjoy a cup with a nice helping of honey for a truly soothing, fall treat.

  1. Hi, enjoyed watching your video. Look forward to visiting my family in Virginia. I live in Switzerland. Thanks for the giveaway.

  2. There are many different things that I look forward to in November! I love the change of the season, I live in the South; so it does not get “fallish” until November! Also, my husband and I got married in November, we will be celebrating our 6th anniversary! I love the cooking that fall brings as well!

  3. I saw the dish soap at Target a couple of weeks ago and IMMEDIATELY purchased it. You are so right that it makes things so much more fun and seasonal!

  4. hello dear jen I always look forward to your video’s to see you’re a very sweet mommy of your sweet little daughter I love you xxx greetings brigitte

  5. Awesome video as always! Winnie and Charlotte are so cute as dragons! It is so hard to believe that Charlotte is 10 months old already. She is so cute! Thanks for sharing!

  6. Jen can you tell us more about your phone? I thought it would be a pain to charge and not having a place for earphones would annoy??? Your thoughts please!!! ❤️

    1. I charge mine overnight while I sleep and then plug it in whenever I’m in the car during the day and never run out of juice even though I use it constantly. As for the headphones, I believe there is a jack you can purchase to use. I don’t see myself using headphones for a looooong time with a little one around now 😉

  7. As always, I love your recommendations! CC and Winnie are so darn cute! Thanks so much for sharing Jen!

Oh, and there is no such this as “too much” planner talk/stuff! 😉

  8. Girl, you KNOW we want to see that sticker haul! (You could be like “I could post a tutorial on how I change my lightbulbs, but I don’t know if you guys want to see that.” And we would be like “SHOW US YOUR WAYS.” lol)

  9. I have entered the competition and the thing I looked forward to is bonfire night because I lived in the UK and spending time with family

  10. I Love everything you do and appreciate your happy spirit and love of life. It appears you have a happy marriage and love each other and have fun together. We celebrate our 50th anniversary next month, and I can say my husband has been a joy to have as a partner. That doesn’t mean we haven’t had our share of trials but he always treats me with respect and I see that in your marriage. Enjoy these years together and with your little CC they will be your memories without your hopefully many years together.

  11. I’m looking forward to warmer weather as I’m in Australia so we’re going into summer. Although here in Melbourne it feels like winter has been going on for forever because it’s the 2nd of November and I’m still wearing a knitted top and jeans!

  12. I’m looking forward to seeing our baby due at the end of November. I’m really enjoying watching your pregnancy and baby videos. Even though this is my 5th, I’m still learning new tips from you and I love your enthusiasm. Thank you for sharing.

  13. November is such a magical time of year with the leaves changing and the temperatures dropping. Here in the UK it’s Bonfire Night (which I love!!) and my birthday. Plus it’s the best time of year for the tastiest of treats! Also, I’m so glad that you found Hello Petite Paper’s shop. She’s my absolute favourite!! xo

    1. Sounds lovely! I wish we had Bonfire Night…if it’s what I’m assuming, I love campfires! And I absolutely can’t wait to receive my Hello Petite Paper order 🙂

  14. Totally off topic – do you work out? What is your routine? I’m just starting to set up an exercise room in my home and I’d love to have your input about how you work out, esp with a baby in the house! I know you used to have a home gym – any more? What would be your tips for setting up a small home gym? Thanks!

    1. Yes, I do work out (except for the [past couple of weeks I’ve had to take off due to some foot injuries!). Our home gym is pretty much the same as when I showed it years ago. I like the PIIT28 program because it is fast and requires so equipment so I can do it anywhere. You really don’t need any equipment other than your own body as resistance to get in a great workout!

  15. I made the pumpkin muffins and they were delicious. I followed your suggestion for 1/2 chocolate chip and 1/2 cinnamon chips. The muffins were fantastic and a big hit with the family!!! Thanks for sharing the recipe.
