Lifestyle Favorites | November 2016

Can you believe it’s December already?  The holidays are upon us!  We kicked it off with a lot of fun times and good meals shared with loved ones during last week’s Thanksgiving festivities.  My absolute favorite thing about November is Thanksgiving and the start of the holiday season.  As per usual, I’m going to share some of my other favorite things, ranging from clothing, accessories, and beauty items to home goods, multi-media picks, and tasty treats.

All image sources that are not originally my own photos are from the links provided below.  Please be advised that some of the links provided are affiliate links and I do receive a small commission if you make a purchase using those links.  This does not cost you any extra when you make a purchase.  I very much appreciate your support of this blog in doing so!

lifestyle favorites november 2016

Clothes & Accessories

❊ Gap Soft Plaid Boyfriend Shirt – I have been living in these shirts I bought earlier this fall.  They’re super soft and cozy without being heavy or too hot.  The perfect flannel!  I just ordered a few more in different patterns on sale.  I’ll be wearing these all winter long!

Merrell Encore Ice – Another item I’ll be wearing all winter?  These slides!  They’re super comfy and toasty warm.  I love a nice winter slip on shoe like this.  It feels like I’m wearing my slippers out!  They’ve got great traction and are super durable.  I’ve loved these for years!

Beauty

❊ Sephora Collection Hand & Foot Masks – If you’re looking for a quick at home spa treat, you should check out these hand and foot masks by Sephora.  I was skeptical at first, but instantly fell in love with not only how easy they are to use, but also effective and soothing!  At the end of a long day I like to put on a YouTube video, pop these on, and just chill out for 20 minutes. The product comes packaged in self-contained mitts and booties that you simply put on and take off.  My hands and feet feel so soft and pampered afterwards.  It’s a welcome and fuss-free treat anytime in my books!

Nails Inc Superfood Repair Oil – I’ve put my poor cuticles through the ringer this year with very little care.  I finally decided it was time to start treating them right!  I purchased this oil during the Sephora VIB sale after reading glowing reviews.  I can attest that it is quite nourishing and effective at hydrating my cracked cuticles!  I’ve been applying it a couple of times a day for the past few weeks with great results.

Nails Inc Overnight Detox Mask – I was very skeptical of this product which claims it is “is perfect for restoring highly damaged nails.”  I’ve never even heard of a nail mask before!  It only took a couple of nightly applications of this for me to see results.  It actually works!  My nails feel stronger than they have in a very long time.

Home Goods

Nespresso Citiz Espresso Maker – Don and I decided to take the plunge on a Nespresso machine a few months ago and we’re both smitten.  It makes amazing espresso at the touch of a button!  I’m not usually a big coffee drinker, but I’ve come to look forward to my daily caramel latte (decaf for me!) since we bought this machine.  Not only is it easy to operate and keep clean, it’s very sleek and doesn’t take up too much valuable kitchen counter space.  I couldn’t imagine my mornings without it now!

Multi-Media

A Pentatonix Christmas – Pentatonix released a new holiday album and I’m officially hooked.  My previous rule about waiting until Thanksgiving to listen to Christmas music flew out the door with this release.  I’ve been listening to it on repeat since the beginning of the month!  They’ve also released a few music videos from the album on the PTXofficial YouTube Channel.  I like that this album has a mix of classic, cheery carols as well as some moodier tracks.  The group sounds as amazing as ever!

December Daily – I’ve returned to my love of scrapbooking after many years away from it this year with the addition of our daughter Charlotte to the family.  I’ve decided to try out a new project called December Daily, which is a daily memory keeping project for the month of December that focuses on the stories of the season.  I took Ali Edward’s online class in the hopes of gaining some guidance and inspiration, and it delivered just that and much more.  I can’t recommend her classes enough!  She makes memory keeping seem attainable in a realistic yet stylish way.  I can’t wait to embark on this project!

Tasty Treats

DIY Caramel Sauce – I mentioned my recent daily caramel latte habit when I was talking about the Nespresso Citiz machine, so I thought it only appropriate I should share the source of the most scrumptious DIY caramel sauce ever.  I found this recipe from Bright-Eyed Baker during a random search for at home caramel latter recipes one night.  I love that this recipe is made with milk instead of heavy cream, which makes me feel slightly less guilty about indulging in a caramel latte every day.  The caramel still turns out wonderfully!  I cook mine a bit longer than she recommends in the recipe for a more medium thickness.  The added sea salt gives it the perfect salted caramel taste.  It’s absolutely divine and so welcome on cold winter mornings in my morning cup of joe.

  1. Thank you SO much for your caramel latte tutorial. Based on your advice, I bought my parents the Nespresso bc my mom loves Starbucks caramel lattes!! I hope they love this gift. 🙂

  2. I am so excited for December Dailey. Maybe you could share some days in the planning group. I miss your daily snippets and snap chats. Happy Holidays.

  3. Hi Jen,
Love the Pentatonix Christmas songs! Thanks for sharing! I also love the new Jordan Smith Christmas album! He has a beautiful voice! Have you heard his music? He was the winner of the voice last season!!💕

  4. That was fun … thanks for the caramel latte yummiest idea, gotta try that one. Happy, happy wishes to you and your family. Your beautiful sparkle in your eyes shows how content & blissful you are, it’s just the best thing … seeing a fellow woman living life … happy. Sorry if that was corny, but I truly feel that way.
Best .. Best Wishes to your baby girl … I bet she’s beginning taking her first steps. What a glorious time for you & hubby.
Again, best to you through the season 🙂
Oh ya .. been enjoying Plan with me as well.
    You always inspire me.

  5. As your lifestyle has changed I see nothing wrong with adding things you enjoy using with your child to the life style favorites. I am a parent so I remember the days of no sleep and brain drain. I have teenagers now but drivers permits and high school crushes are keeping me awake.

  6. Hey Jen…

Thanks for sharing all your lifestyle/mommy favorites. I wanted to share one of mine with you. Have you ever bought Matilda Jane Clothing for CC?? It’s super adorable and totally little girl. This month Matilda Jane collaborated with Joanna Gaines from Fixer Upper and added some adorable pieces for girls, women and some home goods too. Check them out… http://www.matildajaneclothing.com

    Have a great December!

  7. You are looking great! I can tell you are very happy! I am so glad for you and your family. I was one of the people who stayed to the end of your planner video. I would love to see a holiday plan with me! It is always so nice to watch your planner videos. I hope you have a wonderful holiday!

  8. Jen, you are just the best…I love your posts and especially your reviews. Your little family makes me smile. 😊

  9. God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman is my favorite Christmas song too! The Barenaked Ladies & Sarah Mclachlan version is my fav, it’s very cheery and upbeat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7B0g_TyPYE

Also for anyone looking for a “poor man’s” espresso maker, I love the bialetti moka, it’s a stove top espresso maker widely used in Europe. They range from $15-40. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FDL588/ref=twister_B00GBNCW9M?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

I buy Illy espresso from Amazon or the grocery store to use in mine. I love making coconut milk lattes at home, yum!

Thanks for sharing Jen, you’re a joy! Miss you on snapchat! xo

    1. Thanks for sharing the link to the song! Love it.

I gave my parents that stove top espresso maker many years ago and they still use it to make cappuccino on the weekends 🙂

  10. You mentioned in your beauty haul that you use a little spoon to get product out of pots- can you share what that is? Is it reusable, and do you have one for each product? Thank you so much- I’ve just found your channel/blog and I love it!

    1. It’s a little scoop that came with a moisturizer I used years ago. I still use the little scoop! I just wash & dry it between uses.

  11. Are you going to be doing a party prep video for cc first birthday? I really liked the way you did the gender reveal one.
Also are you going to be doing Disney vlogs when you go in February?

    1. I hadn’t thought of doing a party prep video to be honest. We’ll just be getting back from Utah and it will be a bit of a rush to get everything together but I’ll definitely consider it, time permitting. And I probably won’t vlog the Disney trip since it is with family.

      1. Okay so I received my shoes but I am trying to figure out if they fit correctly. Maybe you could help me out? Do yours fir snuggly around your heel or are they looser fitting? Trying to figure out if I should go down a half size or keel the ones I ordered. Thanks a bunch!
