Lifestyle Favorites | June 2015

With summer officially underway, I am enjoying swapping in summertime favorites, both new and old.  I’m excited to share some of my favorite things from the past month with you, ranging from clothing, accessories, and beauty items to home goods, multi-media picks, and food.

All image sources that are not originally my own photos are from the links provided below.  Please be advised that some of the links provided are affiliate links and I do receive a small commission if you make a purchase using those links.  I very much appreciate your support of this blog in doing so!

Clothes & Accessories

june 2015 favorites clothes & accessories

Picnic Days Tee – I hauled this (and my next favorite) this past spring and couldn’t be happier with the purchase!  I can’t tell you how many compliments I receive when I wear this cute top.  The most common remark is that it makes people hungry for watermelon!

Fragola Ruffle Tank – This flowy number has also been one of my most worn pieces over the last month.  It’s cute and put together looking, but easy breezy to wear.  The material washes well and air dries wrinkle-free.  Bonus!

Birkenstock Arizona Sandals – It’s been over 15 years since I owned my first (and last) pair of Birkenstock Arizona sandals.  I can’t believe I waited so long to jump back on the Birkenstock wagon!  They’re super comortable, camouflage the bits of my feet I’m not particularly fond of, and have great support, especially for a slide on style sandal.  I’m hooked!

Stella & Dot Avalon Tote – It was love at first sight when I saw Michele (from michele1218 on YouTube) carrying around this stunning bag at the rewardStyle conference I attended in May.  I promptly ordered my own and have especially enjoyed using it for travel on trips where I’m not packing all of my camera gear in my carry-on.  I added a Dune London Jaffa Faux Fur Pom-Pom Keyring onto it for a little girly flair.  I know it’s kind of a silly fad, but I rather like it!

Beauty

Pacifica Enlighten Eye Brightening Shadow Palette – I received this pretty little palette in my June Popsugar Must Have Box and have so enjoyed using it for a light, summery look.  The bright range of shades have a buttery finish and good pigmentation.

Tarte Amazonian Butter Lipstick in Angelic Nude – This lipstick has been my go-to all month!  It’s amazingly creamy without feeling sticky or slick.  The pigmentation is amazing considering the moisturizing formula.  This neutral pink has a peachy tone making it the perfect summery pop of color.

Burt’s Bees Lip Shine in Blush – I discovered the Burt’s Bees lip glosses last summer when we were out at the family home in Utah and they’ve been an all-time favorite every since.  The formula is creamy with a nice sheen without being terribly sticky.  I find them especially nice to use in summer for no fuss no muss on-the-go application.

Pacifica Island Vanilla Hand Cream – I’ve become increasingly fond of Pacifica products over the last couple of years and find myself reaching for their lotions and body washes more frequently than other tried and true favorites.  I especially love their hand cream formula, which instantly sinks into the skin without leaving a greasy residue.  The island vanilla scent is delightful!

Home Goods

I thought I would share a few of my favorite hand soaps I stock in my home.

Method Gel Hand Wash – I’ve become a recent convert to liquid hand soap after many years of swearing by the foaming variety.  Recently, I’ve felt as if foaming soaps don’t leave my hands feeling as clean as I’d like.  I really like Method’s gel hand wash formula that provides a good clean without leaving my hands feeling stripped.  There’s a wide range of scents to choose from, including fun seasonal limited edition versions with festive packaging.

Yes to Grapefruit Basil Liquid Hand Soap – I only recently started using the Yes to liquid hand soap, which I hadn’t previously noticed stocked at my local Target.  I keep this one by the kitchen sink.  Just like with Method, the Yes to soap leaves my hands feeling clean but not dried out.  The refreshing scent is a nice bonus!

Fortune Cookie Soap – My favorite hand soap to keep by my sink in our bathroom is this cutie from Fortune Cookie Soap company.  I like the way it fits perfectly in my hands.  Fortune Cookie Soap offers their namesake product in a variety of fun scents and colors.

Multi-Media

june 2015 favorites multi-media

Choose Your Own Autobiography by Neil Patrick Harris – My husband, Don, and I listened to this laugh out loud autobiography on a recent car trip down to St. Louis to visit my brother’s family.  Not only did it keep us well entertained on an otherwise tedious drive, but it was one of my favorite autobiographies that I’ve ever listened to!

BBC Earth Life – I’ve been a huge fan of Planet Earth ever since it came out in 2007 and have watched each episode many times.  Imagine my joy at learning of this similar series released in 2010.  I’m not sure how it took me so long to hear about it, but I’m glad I finally did!  I love these high quality nature documentaries that showcase the beauty and wonder of our planet.

Tasty Treats

june 2015 favorites tasty treats

We’ve been traveling up a storm so far this summer and I’ve been on the hunt for tasty and filling travel-friendly snacks.  I found a couple in the last month that fit the bill perfectly!

❊ 365 Everyday Value Thai Curry Cashews – I picked up these seasoned cashews on a whim for a gathering with friends and couldn’t be happier that I did, because now I’m hooked!  I keep a handful in a reusable snack bag in my purse and carry-on for an easy on-the-go pick me up.

❊ Cascadian Farm Organic Protein Chewy Bars – I like the idea of a granola bar for convenience, but have had trouble finding ones I really like in the past.  Either they’re super tasty but not very healthy or are better for you, but taste like cardboard (in my opinion).  These bars strike a nice balance.  No, they’re not the healthiest pick and they’re rather calorific, but they’re a tasty and filling option when I’m in the need of a bigger snack without any other options.

I noticed that Burt’s Bees gloss in your info bars in the last video and might just pick it up for myself..! Thank you for the wonderful giveaway, the bag is very summer appropriate and I love the pompom!
My favourites for June were definitely my sandals. The Arizonas are too wide for me so I opted for two models from the Papillio brand which I highly recommend. I’ve been doing quite a bit of gardening so I’ve been wearing my Birkenstock Bostons a lot as well. They are super cute with leggings!
Oh and I’ve been loving a chambré dress that I got at Muji. Muji is a Japanese brand that I highly, highly recommend to you if you’ve never been! They have a really nice aesthetic and great organization solutions.

  7. Hi Jenn! Love your new site! It’s like your YouTube has been made into more of a classy, mature entertainment. I’ve been enjoying your videos for a long time now and love them all. 8. I am loving your new website- so easy to navigate! It feels like a seamless transition on this end.

Side note if anyone can help- when I click on the product links I see rstyle come up in the address bar but the screen is blank. Does anyone else have this happen? I’m not very computer savvy so perhaps there is something simple I am missing.

    1. They should take you to the actual websites….I’m not sure what’s happening as it appears to be working on my end. Perhaps refresh your browser?

  9. I’m from Australia so I don’t celebrate the 4th of July, but I love seeing all the celebrations on social media, it’s so happy and bright! We celebrate Australia day in January but I don’t know if we celebrate quite as well as Americans 😛

  10. I am from Singapore and have been subscribed and following you on utube for quite a while. Thank you for being you and really brightening my moments with your simile, lifestyle and Winnie. Mine is Kit Kat

  11. I recently got my first pair of Birkenstocks for the summer and I love them! I have problem feet, and as a twenty something it can be hard to find nice looking shoes that give me the support I need, but I’m loving my Birks. Although they did take some breaking in!

I’ve seen Life on Netflix and had added it to my list, with many other shows, but I think I’ll be making the time to watch it soon.

  12. Love Pretty Neat Living, Jen! So sophisticated yet fun! I’ve been going back to my Marc Jacobs Style Eye No. 7. It was sort of a splurge for my wedding makeup last year, but I love it!

  13. Love all your favorites, everything is so cute and pretty. Really love the purse and the pom pom is adorable. I also think it givesthe purse a special cute touch.

  14. Love the rebranding. You have a great and relaxed delivery. Love the favorites also. I just ordered another pair of Birkenstocks,Arizona patent leather this time.

  15. Hi Jen:
I celebrate my birthday on July 13th! a Monday this year but I’ll make the best of it either way. Love the super cute tote! Thank you for offering such nice things to share with you. XO, Cynthia

  16. Jen, I love the Pacifica eye shadow. I want to give that a try. I want to change over to more organic cosmetics now. I feel they are better for you! 🙂 also I just love, love your Stella & Dot Avalon Tote!! its a must have for sure!

  17. Such a beautiful website/blog! Very classy and super user friendly. Congratulation on the new name and conversion!

  18. My family tradition for the 4th is to go to the movies and than scavenger hunt for fireworks. This year was special as my fiance was part of our tradition. I love the rebranding and the name. Congrats on everything. Christin

  19. I love what you (and your team) have done. I think it looks amazing! I was also a die hard bath and body works soap fan…but the scents haven’t really excited me, so for spring/summer I switched to the Mrs. Meyer’s Lilac and I am loving the soap. I am going to try the Method hand soap next, I use the counter top spray and I love the limited edition scents. I never thought to check out their hand soaps. Thanks!

  20. I love everything about the changes made to your blog and channel. Everything is so fresh and neat. Your videos continue to inspire me.

I really enjoyed this favorites video. And I think I am really loving this bag. I will on occasion travel with one of my dogs to visit family in NC. That bag is perfect to carry things that I would have put in a larger carry-on. I think it also may be perfect for my new dog show bag. I am rethinking my current set up so that I can easily grab things from the bag in a pinch. This bag might give me the space to have everything right at hand.

  21. I enjoyed july and my favorite things this month since I’m spending so much time at the beach are a personalized tote bag I got from a arts and craft fair and the Goody and underarmer headbands as my hair is long and fine and usually dosnt stay in a pony tail but these have little rubber grips weaved in that seem to hold my hair out of my face . Happy fourth of july thanks for sharing

  22. I love watching your videos and reading you posts and blog. I will be going to the beach for the holiday. Parade, fireworks, beach time, walking. Family time and just fun time.
Love the new sites and colors. Hope you have a lot of fun traveling ahead of you.

  23. Jen I love your rebranding it sums you up perfectly and I love that your giveaways are international too 🙂 Enjoy your ‘new’ space

  24. You mentioned leaving a comment if my 4th of July celebrations were “other”. We (as a family) LOVE our country and we get together and have steaks and hang out. However; fireworks is a bit tricky. Being an family full of soldiers, the sounds that the fireworks make before they boom and as they boom, tend to bring back some not so good memories for some of us. So, we huddle together and watch loud movies! 🙂

  25. Jen,

I love the new website! Would it be possible for you to do a video on how you apply the Pacifica eye shadows?
