Lifestyle Favorites | July 2015

We’re finally home (for the moment at least 😉 ) after a month and a half of in-and-out travel and I’m enjoying catching my breath and catching up with all I want to post about!  I’m excited to share some of my favorite things from the past month with you, ranging from clothing, accessories, and beauty items to home goods, multi-media picks, and food.

All image sources that are not originally my own photos are from the links provided below.  Please be advised that some of the links provided are affiliate links and I do receive a small commission if you make a purchase using those links.  This does not cost you any extra when you make a purchase.  I very much appreciate your support of this blog in doing so!

Clothing & Accessories

clothes & accessories favorites july 2015

❊ Gap Maternity V-Neck Linen Tee – I’ve always dressed for comfort when traveling and it’s become even more important now that I’m pregnant.  These super soft tops from Gap have become a staple in my airplane uniform.  I especially like the looser fit and that the back is slightly longer for maximum rear coverage.  They are linen, but wash up nicely in a cold, gentle cycle, and air dry very quickly.

❊ Merrell Grassbow Air – I purchased these sneakers a few months ago when I knew we’d be traveling a lot and I’d want a lightweight, flexible walking shoe.  These Merrells fit the bill perfectly and can easily double as trainers on the go so I don’t need to pack an additional pair of shoes.  I love the soft grey with the mint accents, as well.  They go with everything!

❊ Henri Bendel Jettsetter Mini Convertible Backpack – I raved about this bag (which I also own in black ) over the winter and decided I’d really like a summery option as well.  I’ve so enjoyed using backpack handbags lately, as they’re not only comfortable but super cute.  I’ve carried this little blue beauty for the last couple of months.  Sadly, they don’t offer this color anymore, but they do have a gorgeous taupe one that would be perfect for fall!

❊ Pacifica Body Wash – I have been on such a Pacifica kick these past few months and am really enjoying using their products.  This isn’t my first experience with their body wash and it certainly won’t be my last.  Even though it is sulfate-free it foams up like crazy!  I am absolutely obsessed with the Hawaiian Ruby Guava scent this summer.

❊ Pacifica Body Butter – Of course, I couldn’t have the body wash without the matching lotion!  I can’t tell you how happy this tropical fruity scent makes me every time I take a whiff.  It’s so refreshing and bright!  I generally don’t use such a heavy lotion in the warmer months, but my skin has been particular dry lately and just drinks up this amazing body butter.

❊ bareMinerals bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation – I’m including this foundation in my favorites this month, because it’s literally the only one I’ve been using lately even though I have a love/hate relationship with it.  I use the shade Bare Shell.  It has a super thin, liquid quality that I find applies best with my fingertips.  It provides light coverage and feels amazingly natural on the skin, but it’s a bit finicky and has a tendency to cling to dry and uneven patches noticeably.  This becomes more pronounced over time with wear.  I’m on the hunt for a new light coverage face base with good ingredients and would love any suggestions!

❊ bareMinerals Stroke of Light Eye Brightener – I needed a new under eye concealer since my previous one was noticeably too light for my summer complexion.  I decided to give this bareMinerals one a whirl and I love it!  It’s super light and doesn’t settle into fine lines.

❊ bareMinerals Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balm – I’ve been using this new lip product for the past month and while I do truly enjoy it, especially as a fan of tinted lip balm, it has its quirks.  I find it applies best when at room temperature or cooler and doesn’t travel well in the summer heat.  I like the formula, I just wish it held up better on the go.

Travel Aids

As I mentioned, we’ve been traveling quite a bit lately.  I decided to swap out my usual home goods category and share a few of my favorite travel aids instead since I’ve been using them a lot.  If you’re interested in seeing more, I’ve added a scrolling widget of more of my favorites to the sidebar.

❊ Eagle Creek Pack-It Cubes  – I could talk all day about the wonders of packing organizers.  My personal favorites are the packing cubes by Eagle Creek.  They make packing, unpacking, and staying organized while out of town such a breeze!  I’m actually planning on sharing a more in-depth look at my collection and how I use them soon.  Stay tuned!

❊ Frends Taylor Headphones – My husband, Don, gave me these beauties for Christmas last year and I absolutely love them.  They’re not technically noise-canceling headphones, but they work really well and are super comfortable to wear.  It doesn’t hurt that they’re also pretty snazzy!  They fold up and stow inside of their own little pouch for easy on-the-go management.

multi-media favorites july 2015

❊ Uganda Be Kidding Me by Chelsea Handler – You know me and my penchant for listening to books on tape by comedian writers/actors!  Chelsea Handler’s latest release was definitely laugh out loud funny and I enjoyed it.  Her sense of humor is on the cruder side of the spectrum in my opinion and can be a bit “in your face” at times.  It wasn’t my favorite audiobook I’ve listened to recently, but it was entertaining on recent flights.

❊ Wild by Cheryl Strayed – I picked this up at a bookstore in a New York airport during a long flight delay and absolutely flew through it in a matter of hours.  I tend to enjoy autobiographical accounts of people overcoming life’s trials and hardships through the perseverance of spirit.  Wild was exactly that.  I actually hope to reread it more carefully next month and will post a more detailed book nook once I do.

❊ American Ninja Warrior – We haven’t been watching a regular show lately, but I started joining Don occasionally to watch one of his current favorites.  This crazy obstacle course competition based show is something else!  It’s amazing to see what people can do with a combination of unimaginable strength and sheer grit.  I highly recommend checking it out if you like to see people performing super-human-like feats of strength!

❊ Dixie Chicks – I tend to get on a Dixie Chicks kick every summer in preparation for our annual pilgrimage to the family abode in Utah.  I know this sounds cheesy, but their music really gets me in the mood to head west!  My favorite albums include Fly, Home, and Wide Open Spaces.

Tasty Treats

I love bread, but it doesn’t always love me back.  I don’t actually have a gluten allergy or sensitivity (I’ve been tested several times over the years), but I find that I process alternative grains better on a regular basis.  Ezekiel Bread is my go-to choice when it comes to my daily piece of toast with breakfast.  This sprouted whole grain has a nice bite without being dry or chewy.  I’ve also recently started taking to their cinnamon raisin english muffins, which I prefer toasted with a nut butter spread on top.  Yum!

  1. I love Pacifica products, especially their body wash and lotion. Their body butter is super hydrating. I love it as an emollient hand cream before bed too. Helps with dry knuckles. 🙂

  2. I have not heard of this product before, hope I get a chance at winning so I can give it a try! Thank you for the opportunity!

  3. We don’t have Pacifica products in Blightly… My favourite July products… Leighton Denny Nail Polish, arbonne primer and Kaffe Fasset Geranium Hand Cream….

I’m still loving my Stella and Dot Renegade Bracelet and my litre water bottle from Decathlon.

  4. O’Keefe’s Working Hands hand cream for outside my body and Bragg Organic raw apple cider vinegar for inside my body. I use 2 Tblsp raw ACV + 1 tsp pure vanilla extract + stevia to taste in 1 quart Mason jar – add ice and seltzer water to fill jar, stir and enjoy. It’s like a cream soda with a little bit of tangy-ness from the ACV. Yum. Sometimes I do ACV with lime juice + Raspberry Zinger tea + a little ginger. Or with Peach tea + ginger. But the take on cream soda is my fave.

  5. My family loves American Ninja Warrior! We started watching it when the show was filmed in Japan. I’ve been enjoying the new episodes lately. I’ve been recovering from partial knee replacement surgery and the show is a great distraction.

  6. We love that Ezekiel bread and cinnamon raisin English muffins as well. I love adding Whole Foods freshly ground almond butter on top! 😋

  7. I loved the Henry Bendell backpack. The design and the color are both gorgeous. I love yous style. I haven’t used Pacifica products, the way you describe, they will become my favorite.

  8. Hi Jen
Glad to hear all is going well in the belly! Fun times! I know you mentioned you were looking for another alternative to bare essentials serum foundation. I would try the Tarte BB 12 hr primer. It has a natural SPF of 30. Great coverage for and you don’t really need to even powder if you don’t want to. Just use hands or brush and poof out the door! Smoothes out texture and really gives your face a beautiful even look. For a step up put in under foundation and wow! Flawless. Anyways, there are always minis of this in beauty to go at sephora if you are curious. Hope this is useful!

  9. I have never heard of this brand before but am very exciting about trying it. Love using good lotion after the shower. Will definitely look this up!! Thank you again Jen!

  10. Hi Jen, thanks for sharing your favs again this month. I do have a quick question…Are you going to be knitting for your little one? If so can you please share in a knit nook??

    1. I would love to be able to knit for the baby but right now the majority of my time is split between work and family. If only there were more hours in the day!

  11. Hi thanks loved the video and those tshirt looked super comfy. A quick suggestion some cloths my friends with kids swear by is latched mama as it very kid friendly and comfortable also nice if you breast feed. So think I’ll probably check them out when the time comes. I do think I like the book better then the movie. Another good book is paper towns
