Lifestyle Favorites | January 2016

Happy New Year!  I’m so excited to be back to sharing one of my favorite kinds of posts: my monthly favorites!  I skipped last month because our daughter, Charlotte, decided to make an early appearance.  It feels good to be back to sharing once again!  I’m excited to share some of my favorite things from the past month with you, ranging from clothing, accessories, and beauty items to home goods, multi-media picks, and food.

All image sources that are not originally my own photos are from the links provided below.  Please be advised that some of the links provided are affiliate links and I do receive a small commission if you make a purchase using those links.  This does not cost you any extra when you make a purchase.  I very much appreciate your support of this blog in doing so!

lifestyle favorites january 2016

Clothes & Accessories:

❊ J. Crew Plaid Flannel Pajama Pants – My all time favorites, these pj’s are light yet cozy and are actually long enough (I’m always surprised by how most PJ bottoms come up short on me).  They’ve been absolutely essential for the past month as I’ve recovered (from a c-section) at home.

❊ Dreamers By Debut Shawl Collar Cardigan – I’ve lived in this super comfy cozy sweater lately.  I love that it’s long enough to cover my postpartum caboose.  Plus it has pockets!  #Winning 😉

Beauty:

❊ Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion – I’m really liking Aveeno products lately for providing great hydration without strong fragrance.  I didn’t want to use any lotions that might bother my newborn so I decided to play it safe by using this formula especially made for babies on myself.  I find it’s very similar to the regular daily moisturizing lotion, which I am currently using.

❊ Aveeno Skin Relief Hand Cream – My hands have been extra dry lately since I wash them so much more now with a baby in the house.  Skin Relief to the rescue!  I apply this many times a day after washing to keep my hands moisturized and soft.

❊ Spectrum Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil – Coconut oil: what can’t it do?  I’ve been using it to keep my extra dry cuticles in check with great success.  I like applying it to my feet after my morning shower and then popping my socks on.  My apologies if this is TMI, but it’s also a great alternative to nipple cream for breastfeeding related soreness.

❊ Smith’s Rosebud Salve in a Tube – The BEST lip balm on the planet, in my opinion!  I keep a tube of this in the bathroom, one on my nightstand, and another in my purse so I’m never without it.

Home Goods:

These are actually my picks from December which I did not post about at the time so I thought I’d share them this month instead.

❊ Nest Fragrances Holiday Reed Diffuser – This reed diffuser blows all others I’ve tried out of the water.  We’ve had it in our powder room for over two months now and it still works!  It’s also absolutely stunning with gold foil detail.  I love the holiday scent, which is a blend of pomegranate, mandarin orange, pine, cloves and cinnamon with a hint of vanilla and amber.

❊ Nest Fragrances Holiday Candle – I loved the scent of the diffuser so much, I decided to splurge on the candle.  We burned this in our family room while we watched holiday movies most every night in December.  The throw is incredible!  I will definitely repurchase this next winter.

Multi-Media:

❊ New Girl – We’re back to watching tv shows after a movie marathon December.  I’m loving New Girl this month for easy breezy entertainment that’s not too hard to keep up with (as I’m quite distracted for obvious reasons 😉 ) and is laugh-out-loud funny.

❊ Never Broken: Songs Are Only Half the Story by Jewel – I haven’t had a lot of time to read lately, but I am enjoying Jewel’s autobiography when I have a moment to pick up the book.  I’ve been a fan of her music for well over a decade and had no idea how intense and unique her background is.  Her life is fascinating!  I really enjoy her writing style, which is detailed and very personal.  She’s a great story teller.

❊ Disney Songs – I mainly listen to music in the car and I haven’t really been driving lately.  I have, however, been singing a lot to my baby and teaching myself the lyrics to classic Disney songs from Cinderella, Pinocchio, Little Mermaid, and more.  I just love sharing these sweet songs with my girl!

Ali Edwards – I stumbled across this website earlier in the month when I was looking for guidance on Project Life style scrapbooking.  I’ve since signed up for two of Ali’s classes and am really enjoying her teaching style.  I highly recommend checking out her blog if you’re into scrapbooking.

Tasty Treats:

Halos – I’ve raved about these delicious mandarins time and time again.  They’re one of my absolute favorite winter treats (which is when they’re in season).  I ate at least two most every day last month!  It’s nice to get a little extra vitamin C during the darkest and dreariest time of year.

❊ Rice Krispie Treats – I didn’t know postpartum cravings were a thing but apparently they are for me.  I’ve been all about Rice Krispie treats lately.  My DH, Don, sweetly made my favorite for me: a combination of regular and cocoa krispies.  We like to add about 20% more marshmallows to the batter than the original recipe calls for because it makes them extra gooey.  Just talking about Rice Krispie treats makes my mouth water!

  4. It’s so sweet and nice the love you and your husband have for each other. I enjoy watching your videos! By the way…baby is so adorable. : )

  5. Hi Jen – I am so pleased everything is going well with you and your family, you are looking very relaxed and happy – Charlotte is extremely precious. I am pleased you are back with some videos and look forward to seeing more as you settle into motherhood. Lorna

  6. Love seeing you so happy as a new mom! Thank you for the coconut oil tip, my cuticles have been horrible and I totally have coconut oil but it never occurred to me to use it for that, yay!

  7. TFS! I’m going to try that rosebud salve, I live in the desert so I’m always looking for mosturizing products. My favorite pj pants lately have been gap’s cotton printed leggings. The are a great weight, plenty long, thick waist band, don’t ride up, but are loose enough in the legs to be comfy. Love them! They are limited in prints/sizes now but I believe they bring them out yearly.

  8. Congrats on Babygirl 😀 I’m laughing inside w/ U apologizing for sharing ur coconut oil tip for nipple cream (gr8 tip Thx). Ur so considerate, but I couldn’t help but think it would be funny if after being a Mom w/ multiples, you would just let loose on natural things about Motherhood. Did you read Baby Laughs by comedian Jenny McCartney? McCarthy? Jim Carey’s ex. Anyways she said after having her 1st baby sex was like taking a hot dog & throwing it down the hall way. Hope not TMI.
Just bought our DreamHome & have a newborn as well & I am really struggling w/ unpacking, cleaning & organizing. Man it would be a dream to meet U & have ur assistance. I do live in UT & visit Midway every year 😉 😉 ThankU for being U & sharing, ur such a light!

  9. Jen two things that might make life easier at the moment
    1. I had the same problem with very engorged breasts when breastfeeding, a thing that worked wonders for me was to soak face washers in icy water then lie them over my breasts after feeding. It really helped slow things down a little.
    2. Project life has an app for the iphone so you could scrapbook from your phone, Becky has lots of great blog posts and she is also on youtube.
Congratulations on the arrival of your daughter

  10. My husband and I have recently started to binge watch New Girl too! I am loving it…we also really loved Happy Endings, thought it was even funnier <3 Congratulations on the arrival of your beautiful daughter, I have been following you for years and am so so happy for you and Don

  12. Glad to here your doing well. I love new girl one of my favorites another good show I’m not sure if you’ve seen it is 2 broke girls and Gilmore girls along with verification mars. Some of my favorite of all time. One show I’ve been into is call the midwife (makes me happy for modern technology ) and Luther Wichita is creepy and adictive all at once. Thanks for posting and I’m definitely gonna try the defuse and candle I can always use more of those.
