Lifestyle Favorites | February 2016

Happy March!  I feel like I’ve been hibernating in my house for the past two months and I’m itching for some nice weather to get out more.  In the meantime, I’ve managed to stay warm and cozy all winter long with the help of some favorite things (and favorite people and pups, too, of course).  I’m excited to share some of my favorite things from the past month with you, ranging from clothing, accessories, and beauty items to home goods, multi-media picks, and food.

All image sources that are not originally my own photos are from the links provided below.  Please be advised that some of the links provided are affiliate links and I do receive a small commission if you make a purchase using those links.  This does not cost you any extra when you make a purchase.  I very much appreciate your support of this blog in doing so!

Clothes & Accessories

february favorites clothes 2016❊ Zella Live In Slim Fit Leggings – I’m all about leggings these days and my Zella’s are my favorite.  They fit like a dream and make me feel supported without being too tight.  I appreciate that they’re 100% opaque as well so I don’t have to worry exposing more than I’d like. 😉

❊ Liz Lange for Target Maternity Fashion Tank Top – While this is technically a materity top, it’s really constructed just like an other basic tank.  I find it’s superior in fit and quality, however, to the non-maternity ones that are similar from Target.  These tanks have been a layering staple for me this winter as a new Mama.

Beauty

❊ Too Faced Love Flush Blush Wardrobe – I received this pretty blush palette as a birthday gift last month and have since fallen in love with it.  I really like the formula and pigmentation of the Love Flush blushes and now I have a great shade range in a compact package.

❊ Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow – This bronzer and highlight duo has been my go-to all winter long.  I like how subtle but effective both are at bringing warmth and light to my pasty winter complexion.

❊ L’Oréal Colour Riche Balm in Nourishing Nude #818 – I’m sure I’ve raved about this lipstick before, because it is a long time favorite of mine.  It’s perfect for those low maintenance moments where I’d like a sweep of color that’s easy to apply on the go and feels great on the lips.

Home Goods

❊ Emma Bridgewater Mugs – I have quite the collection of these beautiful hand painted mugs from England that I’ve been given as gifts over the years.  The latest additions were a thoughtful new parents gift from a sweet English friend.  Don and I use these every morning!

❊ Alessi Heart Spoons – I’m a firm believer in the “It’s The Little Things” philosophy that small and simple joys make a huge impact on the quality of my days.  Using these sweet heart spoons makes my heart smile just a bit each and every time.

Multi-Media

❊ Coldplay – A Head Full of Dreams – I’ve been a Coldplay fan for years and am always super excited whenever they release a new album.  Their latest is one of the best yet in my opinion.  It’s got a lighter, brighter tone to it that I enjoy bopping along in the car to.

❊ The Muppets – I’ve always been a Muppet fan and spent my childhood years watching reruns of the original Muppet Show with my older brither.  Now Don and I enjoy watching the new show, which is filmed documentary style like The Office.  We find it both hilarious and heart warming!

❊ SprinkleOfGlitter & BitsAndClips – I can’t remember if I’ve shared my love for Louise from SprinkleOfGlitter on YouTube yet or not, but regardless, her videos have certainly been a recent favorite of mine.  I love her sense of humor and spin on life.  Watching her vlogs led me to my newest favorite YouTuber, Marie frim BitsAndClips.  These two ladies developed an amazing friendship thrugh YouTube.  I especially enjoy the vlogs where they are visiting with each other, because you can see their bond and the joy they bring to one another.  If you like watching family vlogs, check out Marie’s Weekly Bit.

Tasty Treats

I’m back on my tea kick!  I’ve been an avid tea drinker since college, but for some reason had no interest in it during my pregnancy.  After I gave birth to my daughter, a switch flipped and I’m back on the tea bandwagon again.  Strange, I know!  I’m really into rooibos blends right now.  My two favorites are Paromi Rooibos Cinnamon Chai Tea and the Republic of Tea Good Hope Vanilla Red Tea.  Both offer that wonderful earthy rooibos flavor I so enjoy with warming spice accents for an awesome winter cuppa.

Normally I sweeten my tea with a bit of honey, because I like the flavor and texture it adds to my brew, but I’m on a strict candida diet to help rid my body of a pesky thrush invasion (#BreastfeedingProblems :/ ) so honey is off the table. The one sweetener allowed on the diet is pure stevia.  You’d be surprised how many of the big brands cut stevia with other ingredients that feed yeast!  I found a pure stevia option, the 365 Organic Stevia Extract Powder, from Whole Foods.  It comes with a teensy tiny serving spoon.  A little bit of pure stevia packs a powerfully sweet punch!  It doesn’t have quite the same effect as honey, but it does sweeten up my brew enough to my liking.

  1. I love tea!!! You look great Jen!! I missed CC’s 2 months old photo!!! Hope you are all doing great!!! And this giveaway is awesome you are so sweet with us!!

  2. Hi Jen, I’m loving my Stilla eyeliner which I bought on your recommendation. I’ll try the Kat Von D when I need a new one. I received Tartlet eye pallet for Christmas and it’s been lovely to try new mixes. I discovered some new cookies at our local grocery….so dangerous!

  3. Started watching your channel about 4 mo. ago and now I am hooked.
Just watched Feb. fav. and I love the heart spoons. I have never seen them before.

    Sandy

  4. A spoonful of anything on these spoons would be like a spoonful of sugar and the medison go down ❤️❤️❤️

  5. Jen, you might want to try the Giorgio Armani Eye Tints. They are a creamy, liquid-y type of shadow, that dry down to a powder finish. They are shimmery, and come in a tube and have a wand applicator similar to a lip gloss. You just sort of swipe them on and blend them out with your finger a little and they stay on all day. Fast and easy. I like the color “Cold Copper” – its bronzey. Others you might like — “Flannel” (it’s a GORGEOUS pinky nude), Rose Ashes, or Gold Ashes all would be great for everyday. The Sephora website color swatches aren’t great so try to find them on the Armani site or something for a better idea of the color.

  6. Jen, would you mind sharing how you care for your Zella leggings? I own many pairs of Lululemon and still find that I struggle with how best to wash them to maximize wear. Do you only wash them with similar fabrics? Favorite detergent? Do you dry them? Any tips would be very much appreciated!

    1. I wash them on gentle cycle cold then hang to dry. I use the same detergent by Ecos that I use for all of our clothes. Works like a charm!

    1. Neither could I until I found these! They are a bit thicker so if you live somewhere warm you should keep that in mind.

  7. Yay March! I always look forward to your lifestyle favorites Jen!! Could you go into detail about your candida diet, like what you ate in a day and what the diet has done for you? Warmest Wishes

  8. Hi Jen, I discovered your channel about a year ago while researching Shih Tzu grooming tips and have been following you (and your wonderful family) ever since!

I’ve had the Alessi ‘Big Love’ Heart Spoons on my wish list for some time now and was so excited to see your giveaway! Here’s hoping luck is on my side!

    1. I’ve done it before (years ago) and never followed a specific book…just knew to cut out all sugars (one serving of fruit a day is ok), white carbs (& most grains actually), starches, dairy, peanuts, etc. You can google it as well for a more comprehensive list. Some people can eat certain things like brown rice without issues and some people can’t. It’s a tough diet to follow but if you’re serious about balancing a candida overgrowth about 6-8 weeks on it should do the trick. It’s important to slowly reincorporate foods with a little one at a time coming off of it to see what if anything triggers a flare up.

  9. Jen you are absolutely glowing..motherhood really agrees with you..not sure if my entries took so will leave my email in this message if that’s ok…the Maybelline color tattoes are awesome…miss your tea with jen videos hopefully in the future you can do more…the maternity pics were just gorgeous..the one where Winnie is looking up at you just melts my heart!

  10. Hi Jen, It isn’t a cream eyeshadow but the Burberry Pale Barley is gorgeous. I wear it every day. UD Naked is another one.

  11. Hi Jen! I love sweetened tea! So happy to learn about de-caf sweet ones! I am a ♥️ Freak! Love them. Was so excited to learn about the heart spoons, quite awhile ago in your favorites, but, looked them up, and couldn’t afford them.😩 And now a chance to win them! WootWoot 😁 Hope you feel better soon, so you can get back to your honey!💙

  12. I always enjoy your videos, Jen! Keep up the great job…and enjoy snuggling with your babydoll, C.C. My girlie-girl will be (6) years old next week. It’s so true when you’re told the days are long, but the years are short!
    Internet Hugs! 🙂

  13. I’d definitely recommend a eyeshadow stick. I’m in the UK so I can’t recommend a specific brand, but I think the best ones (for busy people especially!) are the propelling pencil ones, not the wooden pencils that need sharpening – I always forget to sharpen them! My favourite one is a No7 one in a shimmery taupe colour. It goes with everything and is so easy to apply…but I don’t know if it’s available in the US!

  14. Hi Jen! Love your videos and love to see you thriving as a new momma! Question about the nourishing nude lipstick – I picked up #818 but it doesn’t look anything yours. Can you double check the number? Thanks so much!

  15. I think just find a nice slightly shimmer beige or taupe color, maybe champagne,to put all over the lid and with mascara, it will take you anywhere!! You always look lovely though, so don’t stress….. LOVE LOVE LOVE hearts and these spoons are soooooooo precious!!…..I sweeten my tea, hot or cold, just slightly but weaned myself off of sweetening my coffee a long time ago, but just can’t do it with tea for some reason. When I was pregnant I didn’t want coffee and I was such a big coffee drinker. Strange how those things happen! Have a great week!

  16. I bought that lipstick and I love it! Everything your recommend is always amazing!! Your baby is so cute an you look great.

  17. Hi Jen! I love Laura Mercier Caviar shadow sticks. Makeup by Tiffany D recommended them about a year ago. They are creamy and simple to use. I am able to blend them with my finger tip. I bought the color Amherst, which is a shimmery light lilac color, beautiful:) <3 Kellie
