Lifestyle Favorites | December 2016

Happy New Year!  The holidays were an extra special time for us this year with the addition of Charlotte to our fold.  She adds so much light and magic to the season!  My favorite part of the month was celebrating Christmas with her, quickly followed by her first birthday.    As per usual, I’m going to share some of my other favorite things, ranging from clothing, accessories, and beauty items to home goods, multi-media picks, and tasty treats.

All image sources that are not originally my own photos are from the links provided below.  Please be advised that some of the links provided are affiliate links and I do receive a small commission if you make a purchase using those links.  This does not cost you any extra when you make a purchase.  I very much appreciate your support of this blog in doing so!

Clothes & Accessories

Barefoot Dreams Circle Cardigan – Wearing this cardigan feels like I’m snuggled up under my favorite blanket, except I can run around my house!  It is super cozy and warm, perfect for chilly winter weather!   It even looks nice enough to wear out.  Winner!

❊ Tiffany Snowflake Necklace – I love snow and look forward to it every winter.  I wear my pretty silver snowflake necklace all winter long!  They no longer carry the exact version I have but the currently available one is just as lovely!

I’ve been staying up late to work on crafting and planning projects recently but still wake up early with the baby and the lack of sleep is starting to show on my face.  The two new concealers I picked up during the Sephora VIB sale this past fall have made a huge difference in my appearance.  I layer the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Full Coverage Anti-Aging Waterproof Concealer underneath the Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector and blend both together using a Beauty Blender.  This combination conceals and brightens my under eye area making me look much more alert.

Home Goods

As I mentioned already, I’ve been spending many a late night squirreled away in my home office, which is situated just over our unheated garage.  The room gets quite chilly because of this.  I bought myself a Vornado Whole Room Space Heater to help warm things up when I’m in there.  I’m so impressed with this little machine!  It effectively heats the whole room, which is quite spacious, and is quiet with great safety features.

❊ Buffering: Unshared Tales of a Life Fully Loaded by Hannah Hart – I so enjoyed this book!  Hannah Hart is one of my favorite YouTubers.  She writes about her life and experiences beautifully and in such a compelling way that it’s hard not to love her.  I highly suggest listening to her book as she narrates it herself, which only adds to the relatability and realness of her stories.

Sarah McLaughlin – Wonderland – I can’t tell you how excited I was when I learned Sarah McLaughlin released a new holiday album this season.  I absolutely love her 2014 holiday album, Wintersong.  Wonderland has a lighter tone but with the same soothing vibe that Sarah McLaughlin’s music provides.  It was on repeat in my car all month long!

Holiday Baking Championship  – One of my new favorite holiday traditions is watching the Holiday Baking Championship on the Food Network.  I love everything from the super cheesy comments to the amazingly talented professional and home bakers.  This year’s show did not disappoint on either accounts!  I do enjoy the other variations of this show throughout the year, but the holiday version is by far my favorite.  It’s best enjoyed while partaking in some homemade treats, which leads me to….

Tasty Treats

….the return of eggnog and cookies!  We’re big on the tradition of these tasty treats in our home.  I so look forward to them all year long.  Our fridge is stocked with Don’s amazing Homemade Eggnog for the entirety of December.  I try to do my holiday baking early on in the month as well so we have fresh cookies to eat and freeze for later in the month.  This year we enjoyed Chocolate Chip cookies, Finskies, and Peanut Butter Surprise cookies with our eggnog.  Delish!  What’s your favorite holiday treat?

  1. Once again, such a wonderful video with useful suggestions! I always enjoy your videos and, in case you did not know, you have viewers in Greece! Not Americans living in Greece, but pure Greeks, like myself!
Have a great year and keep on vlogging!
    Greetings from Athens, Greece

  2. I ordered Hannah’s book before Christmas but I just haven’t had the time to listen to it Year, there’s been so many great reviews I can’t wait to hear her story.

    1. I used to but it got tough to do with the number of people who enter the contests. I mainly use the poll as a way for peopleto enter the giveaways without having to subscribe or follow me somewhere.

  3. Hello Jen, Happy New Year! Have you considered getting a mini split unit for your craft room? It would be very efficient for heating/cooling the room and they don’t require extra duct work to install. I think you and Don should look into one if you haven’t.

  4. Hi Jen. I just watched your goals video, and seeing you made me both so happy and kind of sad. First, it made me happy because I do really miss your day in your life vlogs….I know you have heard that a million times. Of course, I respect what you do at this time in regards to your videos, and would never expect you to do anything but what feels right for you. Now the part that made me sad is that I realized that I have sort of gotten used to not having you “around”. Even as I say this it takes me down a bit because in some small way I used to feel a part of your life somehow. Seeing you go about daily tasks was like visiting with a friend and that has changed now. Like I said, I understand totally, and only wish the best for you as well as for your family. However, it still feels like I lost contact with a friend. That probably sounds strange right? With that being said, it sounds like you have a full and exciting year planned, and I am happy for you! Happy New Year to you, Don, Charlotte, Winnie as well as the rest of family! Enjoy, and I hope that 2017 is a good year!

    1. I understand and appreciate you sharing your feelings. It’s been very different for me as well! It’s all about finding the right balance at any given time and that continually changes for all of us. Happy New Year to you & yours!
