Lifestyle Favorites | August 2015

I had such a good time spending the month of August out at the Utah house with the family!  I’m excited to share some of my favorite things from the past month with you, ranging from clothing, accessories, and beauty items to home goods, multi-media picks, and food.

All image sources that are not originally my own photos are from the links provided below.  Please be advised that some of the links provided are affiliate links and I do receive a small commission if you make a purchase using those links.  This does not cost you any extra when you make a purchase.  I very much appreciate your support of this blog in doing so!

Clothes & Accessories

august 2015 favorites clothes & accessories❊ Pink Blush Navy Crochet Accent Tie Front Maternity Dress* – I receive compliments every single time I wear this dress.  It is cute, flattering, and, best of all, super comfortable.  Yes, it’s technically a maternity dress, but I have a feeling I’ll be wearing this well after Baby Girl is born.

❊ Pink Blush Peach Eyelet Lace Maternity Tank Top – This easy breezy maternity top has been another staple in my wardrobe this summer.  I love the eyelet lace overlay.  The peachy/coral color is perfect this time of year!

❊ Kate Spade Diana Sunglasses – I try not to share about discontinued items often, but sometimes the favorites vibes are so strong, I just have to!  These Kate Spade sunnies are the perfect size and shape for my small face.  I own them in both horn (brown) and black.

august favorites 2015 beauty

Juice Beauty Cleansing Milk – I switched up some of my skincare products when I became pregnant this past spring and have totally fallen in love with Juice Beauty.  I use this cleanser every night.  It is super gentle, but clearly effective as my skin hasn’t been in such good condition in years!

Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream – Another tried and true favorite of mine from the Juice Beauty range is this CC cream, which I use in place of a daytime moisturizer.  It provides just enough coverage to even out my skin tone.  I love that it has SPF 30 for added protection.

Juice Beauty Nutrient Moisturizer – I’ve also been using this ultra rich moisturizer from the Juice Beauty line at night for the past few months.  It’s super thick, but sinks nicely into the skin.  I’ve needed a bit more hydration than I normally do in the summer months this year and this moisturizer fits the bill perfectly!

❊ Bite Beauty Matte Crème Lip Crayon in Léché – I purchased this lip crayon on a whim earlier this month and am so glad that I did because I am smitten!  It’s the best of both worlds: a long lasting matte lip product combined that is very comfortable on the lips (read: not drying).  Winner!  The peachy nude color is my go-to late summer shade.

❊ Bite Beauty Lush Fruit Lip Gloss in Honey – What’s a great lip crayon without an equally amazing lip gloss?  I’m really enjoying Bite Beauty’s gloss formula, which is thick and long lasting without being terribly sticky.  The honey shade is the perfect pale nude to pop on top of any lippie.

Home Goods Life Necessities

august favorites 2015 planner

There weren’t any stand out home goods products I wanted to share this month, so I thought, instead, I’d talk about my renewed passion for planning in my Erin Condren Life Planner*.  I’ve been using a Life Planner for the past couple of years primarily to keep on top of my posting schedule and all of the details surrounding my work.  I also used a small binder style planner for my personal life and daily to-do’s.  I stopped using both altogether late this past spring when we started traveling quite a bit.  I realized my disinterest in planning was not because of our travel, but because my system was no longer working for me.

Fast forward to late July when I decided I really wanted to start planning again, but in a new way.  I decided to just use my Life Planner and dip my toes in the planner sticker craze I’ve been following via my favorite Planner Enthusiasts on Instagram and YouTube.  I purchased a custom monthly kit and a few cute extras and went for it.  I am absolutely loving planning in this way!  Having just one planner for both work and personal makes sense to me right now and the stickers add a fun organizational and decorative element I was lacking before.

Let me know if you’d like to see monthly planner spread updates as well as an occasional sticker haul and or Plan With Me style video 🙂

Since then, I’ve accumulated a nice collection of stickers from Etsy, some of which have been generously gifted to me (marked with an asterisk).  Here is a list of the sticker shops I’ve used over the past month.  Each shop owner very generously provided a coupon code in case you’re interested in shopping as well!

❊ Paper Loving Mommy – Save 15% with code PRETTYNEAT15

❊ Twice As Nice Lettering – Save 10% with code JENNIFER / Expires September 25, 2015

❊ Station Stickers* – Save 10% with code PRETTYNEAT10 / Expires December 31, 2015

❊ My Own Island* – Save 15% off of $15+ with code PRETTYNEAT / Expires September 30, 2015

I’m also completely smitten with the sweet planner charms and bookmarks from Peach Pom.  See that little yellow ball sticking up from my planner in the picture above?  It’s the perfect page marker!  Peach Pom also generously provided a discount code if you’re interested: Save 15% with code PRETTYNEAT / Expires September 30, 2015.  Bonus – her packaging is gorgeous!

august favorites 2015 multi media

I Love Lucy Season 1 – We didn’t watch a lot of tv at the Utah house, since it’s so nice to sit and watch the sunset on the front porch instead, but on the few occasions we did, I really enjoyed I Love Lucy episodes.  Even though the show is from the early 50’s, it retains its classic humor.  There’s nothing quite like watching Lucy and her shenanigans!  It’s truly timeless.

❊ Lady Antebellum – I’ve been listening to my two favorite Lady Antebellum albums, Own the Night and Need You Now, on repeat in my car all month.  I’m personally a fan of this kind of country music, which is a bit more on the pop side of the spectrum.

My Harto – I discovered Hannah’s YouTube channel through the funny collaboration she did with one of my long-time favorites, Ingrid Nelson.  I instantly became hooked!  Hannah’s My Drunk Kitchen episodes are right up my alley, chockablock full of puns.  You know how much I love a good (or bad) pun!

Mint Arrow – My blog pick of the month is Corrine’s amazing deal sharing.  Not only does she provide information on great sales, she also gives excellent advice, recommendations, and personal picks.  I am absolutely loving her baby gear reviews, especially her newly updated Baby Registry list.  It encompasses everything from pregnancy to birth to helpful items for the first 6-12 months.

Tasty Treats

It’s all about fresh apples this month.  US-farmed organic apples are back on the shelves and I couldn’t be happier!  I look forward to this every year as we transition into fall.  I usually have one a day.  Some of my favorite varieties include Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, and Fuji.  Yum!  What are your favorite kinds of apples?

  1. I own all of the I Love Lucy seasons. My hubby bought them from Costco for Christmas last year. I enjoy watching them with my Littles over TV.

  2. My August favorites are specialty homemade goat milk soaps given to me for my birthday, coconut shampoo & conditioner by RenPure, my iPad mini and iPhone 5S, my 2015 ECLP, and this book that I read in 3 days, “The Harbinger” by Jonathan Cahn.
Thank you for posting the video and having the ECLP giveaway! You rock! 😉

  3. Going to try the Lip products because they look good on you. It’s a beautiful natural color with shine. Good luck to all entering the giveaway. I tried to purchase the rose gold and it was sold out immediately! 🙁

  4. Wow Jen what a fantastic giveaway, very generous as always. Apples – it has to be Royal Gala for me! When I was pregnant, both times, I couldn’t stop eating pineapple but unusually for me I went right off tea! And you feel free to share your pregnancy whenever you can and whenever you like. I never stopped talking about mine, and I still do!!!

  5. Hi Jen, love your monthly favorite videos and blogs. I can’t get over technology these days and how you can link all the products so we don’t have to go searching, so awesome! I’ve admired those sunglasses and tried looking on Amazon and found a pair that I thought were comparable, the Kate Spade “Annika” ones. We’ll see how the work on my tiny face. Glad you were able to fix yours. TFS 😀

  6. You just gave me a fantastic idea for a birthday gift to myself: I love Lucy! And I agree with My Harto — Hannah is a hoot. By the way, you look fantastic. Pregnancy becomes you. I’m very happy for the both you!

  7. I was interested to read about your planning update.

How are you getting on with your Van der Spek travellers notebook?

I am hoping to order one soon myself, I love the vast selection of leathers they come in.

Would love to see a video of yours.

    Adèle xx

  8. Have you seen the movie The Long, Long Trailer with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz? If you’re a fan of I Love Lucy I think you (and your family) would really enjoy it. 🙂

  9. Your favorites were neat to hear about. Thanks so much for taking the time to do them. I hope you are having a great time on your mini vacation. <3

  10. Enjoyed you video this month.
My daughter and I totally agree, your lip color looked lovely on you. Can’t wait to see your planner/sticker video, I would enjoy both, your sicker haul and your plan with me. Thanks for sharing. 💖

  11. I have no need for the pregnancy stuff but I still love watching you! Its fun to share in your life with you because my twin boys are adopted so I haven’t experienced the whole pregnancy thing myself! 🙂 I was just shopping for my new EC tonight as my birthday gift but I think I will wait to see if I win before I order it! Maybe that will give me good luck! 🙂 Thanks for the chance!

  12. I love I Love Lucy! Too funny. I’m also excited about apple season. I’m a granny Smith girl myself, but there’s nothing better than that first bite of a cold’ crisp apple! Mouth is watering…

  13. awesome vlog, btw Pentatonix’s new album is out in early October, but if you have Amazon prime you can preorder album and get 2 of the songs now on your Amazon prime music. I know that you like their stuff.

  14. I got the bite lip gloss as a Christmas gift last year and really like it too. Even the feel of the out side it’s so soft 🙂
My favorite apples are Braeburn, Fuji and granny smith. I like hard textures if that makes sense. You made me start switching my skin care and make up to more natural, too. I am not pregnant yet, but why not live the healthiest I can anyway? Much love to you and hubby.

  15. Great picks Jen! I’d love to see a post or video about your new beauty and skincare products. I think pregnant or not it’s good to be more selective about what ingredients we’re putting in & on our bodies and switching to more natural options is what I’ve been doing lately.

  16. I Love Lucy is the greatest comedy ever!! I had forgotten all about The Long,Long Trailer movie. It is so good! A must see. I am anxious to try the skin products. They sound wonderful. Thanks too for sharing the sticker shops. I am anxious to place an order. As always I always enjoy all your blogs and videos. Take care!

  17. You are really looking radiant, hope you have a fantastic “Babymoon/anniversary”. My favourite apples have to be “Pink Lady” can’t stand a “wappy” apple – must be crispy!! Lorna UK

  18. Ooh would love a sticker haul video and looking forward to more of your planner videos. Love the dress in this video, I lived in dresses at work when I was pregnant, just so comfortable! I still wore them afterwards, although it didn’t feel the same without my bump! Hope you are doing well, it is so lovely having a bump and being able to feel little one 🙂 Enjoy! Thanks for the fab giveaway too xx

  19. Hi Jen! My daughter and I started following you two years ago. You got us hooked on the Container Store and love all your holiday vlogs and holiday prep series. Well…… What a surprise when we discovered you and my daughter are both pregnant and due the same time!!!! Literally the exact same time!!! You also introduced us to Erin Condren!!! Didn’t know there was a whole planning community out there!!! Love you Jen!!!

  20. I Love Lucy is hands down probably my favorite show. I have all the seasons. When Lucy tells Ricky that she is having a baby, it has to be one of my favorite episodes. It makes me tear up every time!

  21. Hi!! I love watching all yours videos…thank you for sharing all your favorites things with us and by the way I always enjoy your purge video very inspired !!! and love the planner/sticker cross my finders hope to win.

  22. I have been following you for a while but I never watched/read your content regularly, now I am hooked, I watch the video and then read the blog post.
Lots of love to the 4 of you, all the way from Uruguay, Dani 😀

  23. Loving O’Keeffe’s working hands hand cream for summer flip flop feet. Super moisturizing and repairs cracks. Also Sally Hansen nail growth miracle serum has done wonders for my cuticles even though it is marketed as a growth treatment. I handle a lot of paper and this has done great things in one week of daily use.

  24. I have been loving watching your videos for almost a year now. Your planner and organization videos are what started me watching. I am so excited about your little one coming and enjoy hearing about all of the changes going on.

I have used planners for many years. I am finding myself in a rut at the moment and am not keeping up with my planning. I look forward to you doing more planner related videos. I am also finding that I am excited about planner stickers. They look like so much fun.

Thank you for the opportunity to win an EC planner.

  25. Thanks for sharing . I love apples but have to say right know I am into fresh apples though my grandparents have apple trees so coming into September and Octoberwe make anything apple. Have you ever had fresh apple butter ? Thanks for sharing the make up recommendation I will have to check them out. Do you have any recommendations for great under eye products to hide under eye circles

  26. It’s been very exciting watching you progress through your pregnancy. I wanted melons of all kinds when I was pregnant. Cantaloupe was my go to.

I’d love to see you do a plan with me. I’m an Etsy stickeraholic. I just started purchasing the downloadable stickers to see how I like them.

    I adore I Love Lucy.

Thank you for sharing your favs!
