Spring is always such an unpredictable time in the midwest. April is going out a bit chilly and grey but I’m hopeful for warm and sunny days this May. Rain or shine, it’s favorites time! (Warning: I’ve been in a bit of a rhyming mood while writing this post. I blame all of the Dr. Seuss book I’ve been reading to my daughter, CC. I apologize in advance for the cheesiness 😜). I’m excited to share some of my favorite things from the past month with you, ranging from clothing, accessories, and beauty items to home goods, multi-media picks, and food.

Clothes & Accessories
❊ Gap Authentic 1969 Best Girlfriend Jeans – As much as I love my good ol’ reliable leggings, I decided it was time to rotate some jeans back into my everyday wear for the sake of variety. My body is still settling postpartum and although I feel I look like my pre-pregnancy self again for the most part, I do have a bit of a new mama tummy pooch that is taking a bit longer to snap back. I treated myself to a new pair of jeans during one of Gap’s recent sales. I purchased these comfy girlfriend jeans one size up for comfort around my waistline. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase! They’re soft, stretchy, and, most importantly, comfortable. That’s all I want in any pants I wear these days!
❊ Sonix Strawberries iPhone Case – I wanted a cell phone case with an attention grabbing pattern that a newborn’s eyes could see since I take so many pictures of my now four month old daughter. This cute strawberry pattern works like a charm! I get so many more smilie photos with the strawberry case. Sonix makes my favorite kind of iPhone case design that is sleek and slim but actually effective at protection with a lip that goes all the way around. I drop my phone constantly and haven’t had an issue with damage since using a Sonix case.
I don’t have the most exciting beauty products to share since lately I’ve been wearing pretty basic, minimal makeup. I’ve mentioned both of these products before, most recently in my 2015 Beauty All Stars, but they definitely deserve another shout out since I use both every single day.
❊ bareMinerals bareSkin Perfecting Veil – My favorite face powder I’ve ever tried. The formula is weightless yet effective. It helps keep my skin matte without looking flat. I use it over my tinted moisturizer every day to keep my makeup from transferring onto CC’s clothes when I snuggle her close.
❊ Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer – The best concealer I’ve ever tried, bar none! This is my ultimate go-to choice to cover up any blemishes. I wouldn’t personally use it under my eyes because it is a very thick formula, but it is marvelous at covering up spots around the face. I also use it to mask redness around my nose. A tiny little bit goes a long way and it does not budge throughout the day.
I love a good pair of kitchen gloves. They keep my hands from getting too dry and cracking when I’m cleaning the kitchen, washing the dishes, or spot cleaning laundry. For years I was a faithful devotee of the Casabella Premium Waterblock Gloves and would sing their praises as the best kitchen gloves. They redesigned them last year, however, and I find the new gloves to be challenging to put on and take off and are no longer comfortable to wear. I went on the hunt for a replacement and am pleased to report I found a great alternative at less than half the price! The Playtex Living Household Rubber Gloves are the perfect length, fit, and feel. I love that they come in sizes for a great fit for everyone. My hands thank me every time I use them.
❊ Spring Baking Championship – The Food Network’s Baking Championship series is my absolute favorite cooking show. I’ve talked about the Holiday and Kids versions before with great enthusiasm. My husband, Don, and I recently discovered the Spring edition and have caught up with reruns from last year’s show and are now watching the current season. The contestants are so talented! I also appreciate the lighthearted, cheesy nature of the dialogue. Beautiful baked goods combined with corny banter? Yes, please!
❊ WeatherBug App – Raise your hand if you’re a weather forecast addict. 🤗 <— Yep, that’s me with both hands up. It must have been my father, who is a dedicated weather channel watcher, that instilled an appreciation for the weather forecast in me during my youth. I’ve kept weather.com open on a tab in my browser for as long as I’ve owned computers. The first app I downloaded when I got my first iPhone years ago was Weather Bug. I’ve tried several and it is by far my favorite of the bunch. It is the most accurate for current weather reporting at my location in my experience. While no weather forecast can ever be 100% accurate, I like to use this app for advance planning especially when traveling for a general sense of the upcoming weather. I check it every single day to time walks with my pup and baby.
I’ve never been so hungry before in my life now that I am nursing. I rely heavily on small(ish) snacks throughout the day to keep me sated. I am incredibly fond of grab and go snacks as a new mama. They’re great for both on the go noshing and a quick fix at home.
❊ Back To Nature Cashew Almond Pistachio Mix – I can’t tell you how many bags of this nut mix I’ve gone through over the past few months. Sometimes I eat nuts in place of a meal in a pinch when I don’t have my hands free or time to put something together. I rely on nuts for the healthy fat and protein they contain. Cashews are my favorite kind of nut and I just love this blend with almonds and pistachios which you don’t often see in pre-mixed batches. I keep a baggie of these in my diaper bag at all times for on the go snacking as well. They’re easy to munch on and they do the trick to satisfy my hunger.
❊ Fruit Bars – I first tried That’s It Fruit Bars in a subscription box about a year or so ago and was instantly smitten. They’re basically like thick fruit leather. I love that they’re made from just fruit with no fillers. I saw the Trader Joe’s Fruit Bars a few weeks ago and decided to give them a try. They’re a bit less expensive than the That’s It version and basically taste the same. I reach for one of these when I’m having a serious sweets craving and need something to take the edge off. It actually works (well, most of the time 😉 ).
