First Impressions: Sonia Kashuk Completely Organized Makeup Bags

I’ve been a fan of the Sonia Kashuk makeup bags you can purchase at Target for some time now.  They are nice quality bags offered in a variety of sizes and fun patterns at reasonable prices.  What’s not to like?  I somehow never noticed the special Completely Organized makeup bag in the line before.  Recently, someone reached out to me on Twitter asking if I knew about the bag.  I immediately googled it and was intrigued by what I saw: a Sonia Kashuk nylon makeup bag with more pouches, pockets, and zippers than I’ve ever seen in one beauty bag before!  I also found a plethora of rave reviews from bloggers on the web.  I decided I wanted to get my hands on one to see if it was really worth the hype.

OJ|TBBB 8:14:2013_1I went looking for the bag during my most recent outing to Target and found not only the original black Completely Organized bag, but also three more in different shapes, sizes, and colors offered as a limited edition collection for fall.  Being the makeup bag enthusiast that I am, I came home with all four with the intent of providing a first impressions style review and sharing these gems with you.

OJ|TBBB 8:14:2013_2The original Completely Organized makeup bag, which is a permanent fixture of the Sonia Kashuk line, is a medium sized case measuring approximately 7.5″ long x 6″ tall x 3.5″ wide at the base.  The bag is constructed of a lightweight black nylon fabric that is easy to wipe clean.  The magenta lined interior offers a nice contrast, making it easy to see its contents when packed.  It is chock-a-block full of built-in organizational components!  There are two zippered portions, including the main large pocket and a smaller front pouch-like pocket.  There are also slip pockets covering every available area of the exterior of the bag.  There is a roomy slip pocket located just behind the smaller zippered pouch on the front of the bag.  There are also three small upright slip pockets perfect for mascara, eyeliners, or even pens on both sides of the bag’s exterior.  Two larger slip pockets are conveniently located on the back of the bag.  There’s even a funny slip pocket on the underside of the bag (not pictured) that one could possibly tuck a small packet of tissues or wipes in.  Seven slip pockets line the perimeter of the inside of the main compartment in addition to a zippered interior pocket.  It’s an organizer’s paradise!

OJ|TBBB 8:14:2013_6I wanted to see the Completely Organized makeup bag in action, so I filled it with my everyday makeup essentials.  It truly has a pocket for everything!  I loved how I could tuck each beauty item into its own pouch.  I didn’t even end up using the free space in the middle of the main compartment!  This bag sure can hold a lot for it’s size.  I like that there are so many organizational options, especially when it comes to packing makeup, because small items tend to get jumbled together in traditional simple cosmetic case designs.  The material of the bag is very light, which makes it a flexible option for packing full or on the light side.  My only quip is that the zippers could be of higher quality.  They function well enough, though, especially considering such an involved design offered at just $14.99.

OJ|TBBB 8:14:2013_8The three special limited edition Completely Organized makeup bags available at the moment include two that are based on the design of the original bag and one that is a more traditional oblong shape.  The Completely Organized Grande (far left in above photo collage) is a beautiful purple larger option measuring 9.5″ long x  7″ tall x 4″ wide.  It has gold zippers and a navy blue lining.  The Grande retails for $16.99.  The smaller Completely Organized Petite (middle in photo collage) measures 7″ long x 5″ tall x 3.5″ wide and comes in the beautiful navy color with a magenta lining and gold zipper hardware.  It retails for $12.99.  Both bags have exactly the same organizational components as the original black Completely Organized makeup bag.  The third limited edition bag offered in the collection is called Straight & Organized (far right in photo collage).  It measures 9″ long x 3″ tall x 3.5″ wide.  This magenta bag is lined in purple and includes six small slip pockets lining the interior of the bag, with three on each side.  The zipper is set in such a way to facilitate easy access to the bag’s interior with a wide opening.  The Straight & Organized is priced at $14.99.  The colors of all three bags are beautiful and the different sized options are ideal for those looking for something a bit smaller or bigger than the original.

Overall, I am impressed with the Completely Organized makeup bag as well as the three limited edition options.  You can spend a lot more money on equally well constructed bags with far fewer organizational bells and whistles built in.  The best part is that the discreet pockets can either be used or not used without impacting the overall carrying capacity of each bag.  I find it can be annoying packing more rigid bags where the organizational components are not flexible as they are with these options.  My favorites of the four are the original bag and the Petite option, as I can see them making fabulous Walking Pharmacies for different sized handbags.  The Grande would be great for travel and the Straight & Organized is a nice option for those who want something more open with a few pockets to help corral smaller items.  The Sonia Kashuk Completely Organized line has definitely made a great first impression on this beauty bag enthusiast!

  1. I really like the new Sonja K. bag set that is green and white (can’t remember the name of the collection off hand). I purchased them last month and they work GREAT!

  2. Jen, I know this has nothing to do with the bags but I just got home and my Ipsy bag was waiting for me, I also know that because you are in Utha you won’t be able to see your Ipsy bag until you are back home but LET ME TELL YOU how awesome August bag is!!!!!!!! So far my favorite one!!! Can’t wait for you to see yours!!!!!!!!!! I am serious!!!! Have a wonderful day my friend!!!!!

  3. These looks very nice, I wish we had Target in Norway.
Thank you for sharing so many inspirational videos with us Jen.
You were a big motivation for me to start running.

  4. Looking forward to trying this. My makeup bag in my purse might have too many products in it, and is difficult to find something quick for a touchup during the day while out and about. This makeup pouch will be perfect. Thanks for sharing your recommendation.

  5. Wow, thanks for all the info Jen! I’m going on a trip in October & I love all the compartments on these bags & how easy they will be to pack in my luggage. I will be going to Target next week to purchase a few of these. Thanks again for all your great reviews.

  6. Oh I love the Sonia kashuk bags she always has so many cute ones. I have two large ones that open up and have multiple compartments that I use to hold my makeup collection. The are very roomy I will have to check these out for travel though I love that blue color! Maybe will have to stop at Target after work hehe.

  7. Does your black original back have silver-colored zippers, Jen? I looked at the ones at my Target yesterday, and they only had gold-colored 🙁 I would much prefer the silver to go with the black.

  8. I bought a black one (regular size) and the blue one (petite). Am using the blue one as my “walking pharmacy”. I don’t have a lot of stuff, but it’s nice to have the little pockets, so everything can go vertical and I don’t have to dig around for the stuff I need. An awesome buy! Thanks for this post!

  9. I don’t know how I missed this review but I’m glad I found it. I went to my target this morning afraid that these bags were going to be sold out. But there were still a few and they were on clearance! Yay! I bought the blue one to use as my walking pharmacy (which I started using thanks to your advice) and the purple one for my daughter because she travels so much for college. Love them! Thanks for sharing your insights! You always have such great ideas.
