First Impressions | Erin Condren Notebooks 2016

I’ve been a notebook and journal lover for as long as I remember.  I started my first diary when I was 8 years old and have kept up with a (mostly) consistent journaling practice ever since.  I’ve also always been a fan of taking notes.  I was that kid in school who actually liked note-taking.  I kept notebooks throughout my academic career and adulthood not just for school but also to record personal goals, thoughts, ideas, and even correspondence between friends.  I can’t walk into a stationary shop without seriously considering adding to my notebook stash.  In short, I am a bit notebook junkie. 😉

Recently I shared a look on Snapchat at a press box I received including Erin Condren’s redesigned TakeNote notebook and journal collection.  I was immediately smitten with the new 7″ x 9″ spiral bound notebooks and decided to order a few custom ones for myself.  They’ve just arrived and I thought I’d share a look with you!

I decided to order both a gold and rose gold coil notebook to match my two Erin Condren Life Planners.  I currently use the rose gold coil as my personal planner and a gold coil to track my daughter, Charlotte’s development and day-to-day goings on.  I thought it would be nice to have an accompanying (and matching of course!) notebook to go with each planner.  I customized each one accordingly and just love how they turned out.

The new TakeNote notebooks are available in both an 8.5″ x 11″ size or my personal favorite, the all new 7″ x 9″ which is the same size as the Life Planners.  Both sizes come standard with a 19mm coil in either silver, gold, or rose gold (prices start at $15 and vary depending on notebook size and coil color choice).  I love the Erin Condren Life Planner coil and this one is the very same, just a bit smaller for better portability.  The notebooks include an interchangeable laminate cover as well as a page of flag stickers.  There is a total of 124 pages (62 sheets) in both sizes printed on that amazing 70lb paper that Erin Condren planners are known for.

The rose gold coil notebook I ordered came with a beautiful light pink cover.  The inspirational quote on the front is a great reminder to keep an active imagination and follow your dreams.  It’s a fitting message for a notebook I hope to use for planning future content and ideas related to my online posting.  I had it customized with my name as a nice touch.  I love the polka dot back cover.

I opted for the lined version, which includes a standard ruled page with a playful color block header flag on the left side and a divided to-do list/task manager on the right.  It includes six colored sections, which can be used for note organization if desired.  I think this layout will work nicely with what I have in mind for the notebook.

I decided to order a Create Your Own Design cover for the gold coil notebook I picked out to match my baby planner.  The Erin Condren website makes it easy to upload photos or graphic artwork from your own computer and format them to achieve your own unique look.  I used high res photos from Charlotte’s newborn photo shoot for both the front and back cover of my notebook.  I added the text of her name in Photoshop before uploading the file onto the Erin Condren website for formatting.

erin condren notebook dot grid 2016

I chose the dot grid layout for Charlotte’s notebook, which I plan to use to document special moments and stories that are too long and detailed to fit into her planner.  This way I’ll be prepared with memorable moments both big and small when I have time to start working on her baby book scrapbook.  The dot grid layout includes small flag style headers on the top of each page in 24 alternating shades.

My overall first impression of the 2016 Erin Condren TakeNote notebook collection is a positive one.  They have some of the same features I love about my Life Planner, including an awesome coil, beautiful paper, whimsical yet simple page designs, and customizable and interchangeable covers.  I like that they match my planners and can be kept stacked nicely together.  I do think that $15+ is quite a bit to spend on a notebook, but if it’s something you think is worth the price (✓) that you will put to good use and enjoy (✓✓), then I say go for it!

  1. I’m so excited about all the new Erin Condren products that are coming out! I too have been a notebook lover since childhood (I just recently pulled out some of my planners from my teenage years to show my fiancee that planning is not a new fad for me). These notebooks look great!

  2. I love this reviews! CC’s personalized cover is too cute!!!

    — Jen, Im so excited for you for “Go Wild” event… Break a leg 😉 You will be great! — Hope someone share a video later!!

  3. I ordered the same rose gold one Jennifer! I know I didn’t need it..ha ha, but it’s so pretty. Charlotte’s cover is beautiful and the nice thing is, you can update it as she grows…sniff sniff, we all know they do this so quickly.
    Great review.

  4. I am a huge Erin Condren fan and am loving the look of these notebooks, your covers are absolutely adorable! Good luck to all who enter the give away and thank you for being kind enough to provide the opportunity to win one of these!

  5. I’m confused. You have a planner for the baby, a notebook for the baby, your own journal and your own planner too? How do you fit this writing into your day along with all your social media work and housework too, plus exercise and errands etc. Just curious. It seems like a lot of work.

    1. I’m just one active mama I guess 😉 Honestly, it only takes about 5 minutes for me to write in each planner every day & the notebooks are just for fun.

  6. Love love love Erin Condren! And all things stationary! I wonder what it is about office supplies and stationary that bring me to a moment of zen 😀. Love watching your snapchat – look forward to your updates! You keep my organizing mind at ease! Have a fantastic day!!

  7. The journal and notebooks are divine….but I have never met one I didn’t love…my Mom told me that I had a diary/journal since I was a toddler and had yet learned to write, but I guess I was serious enough about keeping it that everyone gave me a new one yearly and sometimes several at a time….I will take notes in/on Anything….My favorite class in high school (44 years ago, lol) was Journaling 101…..I had two brothers in the military and both of them were in and out of Vietnam….that is when I went from writing things down to journaling…to this day it still is as important to me as breathing…and yes,my brothers came home safely, unlike so many others…

  8. Hi Jen –
First of all, CC’s book is just too adorable! There are no words for the cuteness. Glad to know that you started a journal when you were 8. That’s about the time I got my first journal. Reading comprehension is connected to writing. If you start CC early on keeping a journal she will be an excellent reader and an excellent student. I’m an English teacher and my best readers and writers are the boys and girls that keep journals. Wonderful!!

  9. How adorable! I love the Charlotte notebook. :)I was wondering if you have heard of Bella Forte book binding ? They do presentation boxes, journals etc the old fashioned way. There is an adorable video on video I think.

  10. I’ve never had an Erin Condren notebook, so I hope I win to try them out! I love moleskin but would love to try something new. I have to admit that I like to collect notebooks. Sometimes I have to wait awhile for the right project to come along to put in them, but they always end up getting used.

  11. Oh my!! How adorable is little CC!! I just love my Erin Condren notebook I got last year, I can’t wait to get one of the new ones!! I noticed that in the giveaway you’ve included date dots, is there a calendar included the new notebooks??

  12. I really hope they start making top coiled notebooks. I worked in a call center for years and got very picky about the notebooks I wrote in because it was all I did all day! Top ones (like steno pads) are awesome because the coil never gets in your way.

  13. Thanks for the review. I’ve been considering one of these for a while so it’s great to see a close up! Love your covers. I got a personalised cover last year and I love it….I was thinking I would still be able to use it if I bought one of their notebooks when my life planner runs out. Gorgeous piccies of Charlotte!xx
