Favorite Moments | February 2017

I mentioned in my latest Lifestyle Favorites post that I wanted to try out a different kind of monthly round-up on the blog.  Today I am sharing a recap of some of my favorite moments from February.  This reminds me a bit of the Week In Review posts I used to write.  I’m excited to talk about a few memories from February, including several birthday celebrations with loved ones and our first trip to Disney World with our daughter, Charlotte (CC).

My husband, Don’s birthday was the kick-off to a couple of weeks of back-to-back celebrations with family and friends.  We had our own little party at home on the actual day complete with Chinese takeout (Don’s favorite) and a homemade birthday cake (recipe from Baked Occasions).  I love this photo I snapped while I sang to Don and CC looked at the cake in wonder.  It captures the joy that accompanies happy celebrations.  Is there anything better than seeing your nearest and dearest so content?

The next weekend we drove down to Indiana for the first birthday celebration of the son of one of our closest friends from high school (yes, Don and I met in high school, but we didn’t start dating until we were in college…and not the same one, at that!  That’s a story for another day).  A couple of our other high school friends, who are actually a couple as well, were there with their little girl.  Even though we all live in different states now, we make a point of trying to get together as often as we can.  It’s so much fun to see our kids interact, especially since we’ve all known each other since we were kids ourselves.  I look so forward to watching our kids grow up having each other in their lives.  I can only hope they provide each other with the same kind of long term support that we have for each other over the years and across the miles.

The birthday celebrations didn’t stop there!  The next weekend we celebrated our nephew, Theo’s first birthday.  Theo is the son of Don’s sister and her husband and is just six weeks younger than our Charlotte.  How fun is it to have cousins so close in age!  Theo’s party was teddy bear themed and oh-so cute.  Watching Theo happily feed his mama his smash cake before trying it himself was the sweetest thing.  Just look at that happy face!

We are so fortunate to have a loving family that welcomes our friends into the fold as their own.  They joined us at Theo’s party and then we continued the fun afterwards at our house, hanging out with the girls, pulling out every single toy and book, and generally having a merry ol’ time.  Charlotte’s really into books right now and it was so sweet to watch her little buddy join in for reading time with us.

We spent an evening at Don’s folks house for supper and family time right before Valentine’s Day.  Don’s dad has a really neat custom putting green in his basement, which my golf-fanatic husband loves to practice his short game on.  He’s taken CC over there a couple of times recently to “play” as well.  We like to joke that she’s “Daddy’s Caddy” as she likes to hover near him and watch as he putts.  How cute is that!

I had the pleasure of working with Hello Fresh, a weekly meal subscription service that provides ingredients and detailed instructions for recipes to make at home.  I’ve considered trying this service for months now and their interest in collaborating was just the push I needed to take the plunge.  They sent our first box for free and I made my first sponsored video (ever!) about my experience.  It was a milestone for me as a creator to work with a brand in this way and a very positive experience.  I quickly subscribed (we pay for this ourselves) and have so enjoyed the service.  It has completely changed cooking for me from a daily task I didn’t enjoy to something I actually look forward to now.  That’s a big milestone in my personal life as a reluctant home cook!

We spent five days at Disney World with Don’s family at the end of the month.  To say it was filled with favorite moments of the month is an understatement; the trip was a highlight of my life!  Disney World has been my very favorite place on this earth ever since Don took me there for the first time when we were just kids in college.  It is pure magic to me.  I have longed to share that magic with my own children for many years but was uncertain how my sensitive 14 month old would react to such an overstimulating environment.  Any uncertainty I had going into the trip vanished on our very first stop to meet Mickey Mouse on day one.  She was delighted!  The rest of the trip was more of the same: pure delight from all three of us.  I snapped this “us-ie” (as opposed to a selfie) on the Dumbo ride.  Please excuse the horrific angle and our double chins and focus on that happy little girl’s face.  That face says it all.  My Disney-loving mama heart couldn’t have been more full than it was during our stay.  I can’t wait to start planning our next Disney adventure!

February was a month filled with celebrations and firsts for our family.  I will treasure the memories we made, especially from our Disney World trip (more to come on that soon!).  I hope you enjoyed this new kind of round-up post.  I’d love to hear your thoughts and input as to whether I should make it a regular thing.  I love sharing these special moments with you!  Please feel free to share your favorite moment from the month if you feel so inclined.  Let’s spread the joy!

See ya real soon! 😉

  1. I really enjoyed this post, Jen! I would love to see this become a regular post as I truly enjoyed the week in review posts that you use to write! Looks like you had a fantastic February!
Along with the beautifully warm weather Ohio has been blessed with this winter, my favorite moment from February was finding out that I will be able to graduate from college next year after the long journey of figuring out what I want to be when I grow up!
Thank you again for the lovely post! 🙂

  2. Jen! I ❤❤❤❤❤❤’d every second of this “round-up”. I couldn’t be more happy for you and Don. From one Disney loving momma to another, I know exactly how it feels to see that Disney wonderment through your babies eyes. My baby will be 22 and we still go at least once a year and the wonderment has not changed! Many blessings to you, Don, CC and Winnie!

  3. Oh, how wonderful!! I love this. Looks like February was good to you and your family.

I missed your weekly re-cap posts, so this is awesome! Thank you for sharing your memories with us!

  4. Thank you again for sharing your lovely family with us Jennifer. It is such a heartwarming thing to read amongst the stress and chaos that seems to fill the internet these days. You’re truly a light in the darkness. I am so happy you have continued to share your life with us. I wish I could give back to you somehow. I did buy the Baked Occasions cookbook, so I guess that affiliate link will give back to your beautifully concerted efforts. We have been to Disney 3 times as a family. The last time was when my youngest was about a year old, so she is aching to go back now that she is 5. Yes, I hear your thoughts from here…THAT’S WAY TOO LONG TO GO WITHOUT A DISNEY TRIP! 😀 We are trying to make it a point to get back next fall sometime. September/October our favorite time to go; as the weather is mild and it isn’t quite a packed full of people! I am looking forward to hearing more about your trip!!! <–a lot, can you tell from all the exclamation points? LOL!

  14. Thanks for sharing! I really enjoy these types of blogs and am looking forward to seeing your Disney vlogs. I too am a Disney lover but sadly we haven’t been in a few years (it’s just too expensive to fly down from Canada, especially with the exchange rate). We will go back again someday soon. May and October are our favorite times to go!

    1. Wishing you magical dreams of the happiest place in the world in the meantime. They get me through tough days for sure!

  15. Really loved this post Jen. Was a great read and lovely to hear how you all are and what you’ve been up to. I can’t wait to take our little one to Disney at some point in the future. Thanks for sharing with us. Highlight for me was taking my daughter to Cadbury World (in the UK) ….she absolutely loved it….and all of the chocolate she was given!!xx

    1. Ooh there’s a Cadbury world? Sign me up! 😉 The Cadbury you can buy in the states isn’t even close to the real thing.

      1. There is indeed! The smell as you walk around is nearly as good as the chocolate itself lol! Think they have opened a small tour in London somewhere if you ever come over here, might be worth a visit 😉 The original is near Birmingham in Bourneville. My brother and sister-in-law recently moved to Seattle and miss it so much! They stock up when they visit! xx

  16. Hi Jen and CC,
I’m loving this kind of round up style of your favourite bits of the month… I so miss watching your day in the life videos you used to do, so if this is how comfortable you now feel sharing parts of your life this way then go for it, I love it.
You have a beautiful family Jen along with little Winnie too and I love hearing your stories you like to share with us and watching your family making memories too. xxx

  17. It looks like this has been a great year so far! So happy for your family! I’m so happy that you guys had such a fun time at Disney, that’s a place I want to take my 2 boys in a few years, my youngest son (4years old) has autism so I’m letting him get a little bit older before I take him. Thank you so much for allowing us to see glimpses of your life, I really appreciate it.

  18. I am so happy you guys had such a great time! These photos are so awesome honestly my eyes started tearing up a bit! I think these are my favorite types Of blogs. Thank you Jen. Have a wonderful rest of the week!

  19. Hey Jen

I don’t normally read your blog posts as they correspond to the videos you post (which I watch instead) so I am glad you have decided to switch it up.

Loving Charlotte’s expression in that photograph and so happy for you guys experiencing Disney World with her.

    Take care!

  20. Thanks for sharing some of your February moments of happiness! Sharing Disney with my daughters was even better than my own experience…if that’s possible! I also recommend the Disney Cruises too- all the fun of the shows, characters, and magic with adventures instead of the rides. By the way, if you want an extra special way to capture your Disney memories, I highly recommend creating a Disney themed album. Our first was through Disney website, but I think they have an agreement with Shutterfly now too. Hope you and CC are feeling better!

    1. We’re thinking about a Disney Cruise with the whole family when all of our kids are old enough for the kids club. We’ve heard nothing but good things about them! And I’m definitely planning on putting together an album, but I’m doing mine using pocket-style memory keeping like Project Life since that is what I’m into right now. Hoping to work on it this weekend!

  21. I’m leaps and bounds in love with this new ’round up’ theme. So happy you’re happy and even more so that you share with us!

  22. Thanks for sharing Jen! We are taking our 15 month old to Disney in April, it’s great to hear that CC enjoyed it so much! I’ve been following you since the beginning and appreciate everything you choose to share! Thanks for putting it out there ❤️

  23. Where abouts in Indiana? I’m originally from there and my family all lives in a Northern Indiana small town. I currently live in Kansas City though.

  24. Thanks for sharing Jen! And thanks for asking what our favorite moments this month was. I often forget to pause and reflect in gratitude…I’m always trying to look forward, full steam ahead! My favorite moment this month was driving up into the mountains to go for a snowy hike with my husband and my dog, who was ecstatic and couldn’t stop rolling in the stuff! His joy made me so happy!

  25. Beautiful Post Jen! Thank you so much for sharing your special moments with us. Very lovely! Lucy
