How are we so deep into May already? I keep thinking I’m going to get these monthly recap posts up closer to the beginning of the month, but it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe next month! April was a whirlwind of travel and lots of family time for our family. Today I am happy to share a glimpse at some of my favorite moments from the past month with you.
April started off with a bang: we packed our bags and headed out to Southern California for a week in the sunshine. It was a very low-key vacation where we mostly just relaxed and enjoyed the ocean air. We didn’t have a lot of plans or must-do’s on our list (aside from Disneyland! More on that in a moment…). We’ve traveled a lot with Charlotte in the past 16 months, but those have been trips with or to see extended family. It was really wonderful to go away just the three of us and enjoy a slower pace together for a week. That view didn’t hurt either!
We couldn’t go all the way to southern California without a day at Disneyland Park, though! Please excuse the double chins and just look at those smiles. That was our first ride of the day on It’s A Small World, one of CC’s favorites from our Disney World adventure earlier this year. Those smiles persisted for the whole day. Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and thanked our lucky stars for the chance to be back in the magic of a Disney park so soon again.
We had such a good time, in fact, that we decided to make the trek out to California Adventure at Disneyland later in the week, which wasn’t in our original plan. The weather was fantastic and we actually had the chance to meet up with family we don’t see often while we were there. It also happened to be the Food & Wine Festival while we were visiting and we enjoyed some very tasty treats. Disneyland never disappoints!
I had the great fortune of being invited to visit Erin Condren Design headquarters since we were so close by. Erin Condren actually gave me a tour of the facility herself (!). I’ve never seen such a big printer in my life! Afterwards, we sat down to talk about the new Life Planner and accessories. It was an amazing experience for me as a Planner Enthusiast and huge Life Planner fan! The icing on the cake was coming back to the hotel after a few hours away and being greeted with the sweetest baby cuddles ever from my little love.
It was business as usual when we returned home from California with Don back at work and me back in my mama/homemaker/content creator roles. CC and Don have an amazing bond that grows deeper with each passing day. Her face lights up like none other when he comes home from work. It makes my heart burst with love and pride to watch them interact. CC is one very special little girl to have such an incredibly loving and supportive father.
We spent Easter with our family and enjoyed a lovely brunch at my in-law’s house. Before that, we had our own little Easter egg hunt fun at home. CC was barely 4 months old last year for her first Easter, so I was especially excited this year to create a fun experience for her. I tucked Disney tsum-tsum figurines into clear Easter eggs and “hid” them on the carpet in the family room for her to find. She loved opening up the eggs and finding the treasures inside! I also put together a basket with some fun goodies for her to play with. She especially loved the bunny ears which she insisted on putting on herself. I loved seeing her excitement! We’re still reading her Easter themed books almost a month later, she loves them so much.
It was actually warmer for much of April than it has been so far this May and we took advantage of the few summer-like days we were gifted with by spending as much time outside as possible. I took CC and our pup, Winnie, on our first picnic of the season at a little park in our neighborhood. The girls both enjoyed watching the ducks in the pond. I love picnicking during this time of year when there aren’t any bugs or humidity and heat to contend with. Plus, all of the daffodils were in full bloom at the time. We brought a ball and our bubbles and made an afternoon out of it. I look forward to many more picnics spent together.
I celebrated a huge mommy milestone later in the month when I went away for two full days without Charlotte for the first time. The lovely folks at Wild For Planners very kindly invited me to their planner conference, GO Wild, held in Nashville this year and I decided to take them up on their generous offer. I had such a great time speaking at GO Wild in New Orleans last year that I knew it would be the perfect quick getaway to see and meet so many fellow planner friends. It was hard for me to be away from CC (much harder than I thought, and I knew it would be tough), but it was good for both of us to have a different experience for a couple of days and she and Don had a blast together while I was away. I shared a lot about my trip and experience at the conference in this vlog if you’d like to see more.
Home again in time for the last week of April, I decided to participate in the Week In The Life project that my memory keeping guru, Ali Edwards, shared about on her blog the week before. This means I took different kinds of pictures than I normally do. I actually snap quite a few pics on my phone throughout the day, mostly of CC, but other popular subjects include Winnie and what I’ve made for dinner. This project, which is a week long daily chronicle of everyday happenings and stories, gave me the push to intentionally broaden what I snap photos of, including many more scenic shots (aka what I see around me) and a lot more candids of Charlotte, Don. and myself. I’m hoping to get my photos in my album soon.
CC and I enjoyed a glorious mid-day visit to the Chicago Botanic Garden, which was magnificently in bloom with thousands of tulips and other spring blossoms. We’re now members and I see us frequenting this beautiful place a lot especially as the weather warms up. There’s always something new in bloom! The grounds are stunning year round. It’s a wonderful place to spend time enjoying the outdoors.
I wanted to pop in these two candids from my Week In The Life project, because I love, love, love photos like these. Don and CC snuggling while we were out to dinner one night (we like to go out just the three of us once a week for a fun change of pace – and good food!). And a very rare thing: a photo of me reading to CC right before bed. Her bedtime routine does not usually include an audience but I really wanted to capture this kind of moment to look back on and Don kindly obliged to take the photo. Because she sits on my lap facing outward I never have the chance to see her face and that expression is priceless.
This photo is one last gem that Don shot for me on the last weekend of the month. I threw out my back that morning and was laid up on the couch all day, something that is very foreign to me and quite difficult to do. I’m usually on my feet go-go-going all of the time but the injury forced me to be still for the weekend and it ended up being kind of a good thing (except for the back injury part). CC basically played around me the entire time which was sweet and Don was so great helping out with her and making sure I was comfortable. It was definitely a change of pace for me (quite literally!), but I think that’s a necessary part of my life to help keep me from getting overly tied to routines and expectations. Plus, I got some very, very sweet baby snuggles and Winnie barely left my side the entire time. There’s always a silver lining!
I’m on the mend now and hoping to be back to 100% soon. I hope you are all well and enjoyed a wonderful month filled with great moments, both big and small, with the people you love. Until next time…
See ya real soon! ❤️
