Clothing & Accessories Haul (Summer 2014)

OJ_TBBB_06-25-2014_00If you follow my OLJ posts you know that I’ve been doing a major purge of my wardrobe this year as I transition from the style of my twenties to the new one of my thirties.  I’ve almost filled up four huge crunch cans with items to donate!  I tend to hold onto things for a long time and it takes a bit of prodding to let go of anything that is still in good shape and fits me.  While my size hasn’t really changed in the past decade, my tastes definitely have noticeably shifted over the past couple of years, and it’s time to pass on what no longer suits me.  The upside of this is shopping for new pieces I love and want to wear all of the time!  I’ve done some major shopping over the past month and thought I’d share my collective haul with you here.

Anthropologie – This has become one of my favorite places to shop lately, especially for dresses.  These styles suit me perfectly: feminine and classic with a bit of a casual vibe.

✻ Capuchina Dress – This gorgeous maxi drapes beautifully.  I love the tie around sash and criss cross back!

Tamsin Maxi Dress – I am always hesitant to buy stripes like these since my curvy figure can be overly accentuated with that kind of design, but I took a chance and I am so glad I did!

Azure Lace Dress – This dress is a stunning classic type for when I want to really feel like a lady.

Rhododendron Dress – I love how lightweight and easy to pack this dress is while still maintaing a classic cut and beautiful lace details.  Perfect for travel!

Amapola Dress – This ” fit and flare” style dress is a bread and butter item for a curvy girl like me!  It can be dressed up or down and is suitable for spring, summer, and fall with different accessories.

Rosae Tank – I love this gorgeous top that can easily be dressed up while still maintaining a comfortable, casual vibe.  The silk tie and cutout in the back are lovely touches.

✻ Citizens of Humanity High Rise Rocket Crop – I’ve never tried high-waited jeans before and decided to give them a go after reading an article explaining how the style is flattering on curvy types.  What a revelation!

Hello Sunshine iPhone Case – I couldn’t resist this bright and cheery phone case by Rifle Paper Co.

Prana – I’ve picked up a few casual pieces here and there this year that I am really enjoying.  The clothing is super soft and easy to wear.

Sarafina Dress – I hauled this dress back in April in purple and enjoyed wearing it so much on our vacation to the Dominican Republic that I decided to buy the other two colors, raisin and gravel, as well.  Not only is it super lightweight and easy to pack, it is extremely comfortable to wear.  To me, this is the quintessential summer/travel day dress.

Miranda Hoodie – I let go of the majority of my hoodie collection during my closet clean out because I no longer am interested in the bright, graphic ones I adored during my twenties.  When I saw this soft hoodie on sale at my local REI, I knew I wouldn’t regret buying it!  I’ve worn it around my house and to travel in almost every day since!

Taala Bikini Top & Lavana Bikini Bottom – As much as I love bringing my Maaji bikinis when I travel just with my husband, they are a bit more revealing than I feel comfortable wearing in family situations.  Between all of the family tips this year, I knew I wanted to pick up a couple of bikinis that offered more coverage.  This set fits the bill perfectly and is super cute!

Zappos – I’ve been a loyal Zappos shopper for years when it comes to shoes and bathing suits, but I’ve only recently started purchasing other items as well on the site.  I love their return policy: you have one year and shipping both ways is free.

Splendid Very Light Jersey Drape Cardigan – I’ve been looking for a tan flyaway style cardigan for awhile and when I saw this one by Splendid on sale, I grabbed it!  It’s a great staple piece for my wardrobe.

✻ Nanette Lepore Saint Etienne Heartbreaker Bikini Top & Charmer Bikini Bottom – When I was perusing for another more family-friendly bikini option, I was immediately drawn to the gorgeous blue pattern of this set.  Luckily, it was on sale, because it is definitely a pricier swimsuit!  It is extremely high quality and I know I will enjoy it for many years to come.

Nordstrom – I like to shop for specific pieces at department stores and was excited to find a couple of really nice new cover-ups to replace the previous ones I’d had since my teens (!).

✻ Robin Piccone Surplice & Victoria Cover-Up Dresses – These are the nicest quality jersey cover-ups I have ever seen!  I wore them both on our Caribbean vacation and loved them equally.  They are light and airy but made from a high quality jersey fabric that hangs just right.

Victoria’s Secret – My favorite shop for underwear, bras, and sports bras!

✻ Beach Sexy Ruffle Halter Top & Cheeky Low-Rise Bottom – Once I saw this cute suit in the catalogue I knew I wanted to try it!  It’s definitely a more revealing bikini but also super comfortable and supportive thanks to underwire in the top.  I loved wearing it on our beach trip!

Kohl’s – I used to shop at Kohl’s all of the time when I was a teenager and still buy items for my husband there occasionally, but stopped looking for myself for some reason in recent years.  I ran in last week to find white bottoms for me and Don and had a lot of fun looking around.  I think I have to check it out more often!

✻ Levi’s 515 Cuffed Denim Capris – I’ve never owned white pants before, but needed them for a coordinated family photo shoot during our recent family reunion trip to Long Island.  I lucked out finding these cute Levi’s!  They’re a looser fit with a bit of a higher waist, which is just what I was looking for.

Target – As I said in my latest Beauty Haul, my love for Target knows no bounds!  It is one of my favorite places to shop for household goods, food, stationary, entertainment, and beauty items.  I also enjoy perusing their clothing section, which is hit or miss for me, but when it’s a hit, it’s a hit!

Merona Women’s Favorite Button Down Shirt – I took one look at the cute pineapples on this shirt and was smitten.  It’s a nice lightweight fabric, which is perfect for cooler summer days or evenings.

✻ Merona Women’s Gauze Popover Favorite Shirt – This popover-style collared shirt is perfect to throw on with shorts or on a cooler day.  I see myself wearing it into fall, as well.

✻ Merona Women’s Slub Tank – The little sailboats combined with the bright robin’s egg blue color and flowy fit makes this the perfect casual summer tank for me!

Lululemon – My favorite place to buy high quality yoga leggings and running tops and tights.  While the price point is definitely on the higher side, you can’t beat the quality.  I’ve had some Lululemon pieces for almost a decade that are still in fantastic shape!  I don’t shop for new gear here every year, but when I find a style I really like I grab it up in multiples, because they tend to retire items very quickly.

✻ 105 F Singlet – Super lightweight and roomy, this is the perfect summer running tank for me!  It is so light, it feels like I’m running in just my sports bra without being as revealing.  It definitely runs big, so I went down a size for this style.

✻ In A Flash Singlet – I really like the Swift Ultra fabric of this top, because it drapes nicely on the body and doesn’t cling even in super sweaty situations in my experience.  I went up a size since my normal one wasn’t as loose around my curvy hips as I wanted it to be.

✻ Ultimate No Show Run Socks – These are my favorite warm weather running socks.  I stocked up on a couple new pairs so I could bring some of my old ones out to the Utah house when we go this summer.

Amazon – I think it’s safe to say I shop on Amazon more than any other online retailer.  We buy all sorts of things there from books and movies to household goods and more!  I end up buying quite a few gifts for birthdays and holidays on the site as well as personal items.

Kate Spade Dianas Rectangular Sunglasses – I was sad to lose my beloved Tory Burch sunglasses that I’ve worn almost every day for over five years when we were in St. Louis.  I feared it would be difficult to find a proper replacement as that particular model is discontinued and I have trouble finding frames to fit my narrow face.  I knew that Kate Spade makes more narrow frames and turned to Amazon since I needed a new pair in just the few days I had between trips last week.  Don & I love being Amazon Prime members!  We really take advantage of the free 2-day shipping and use it so much it is well worth the annual fee.  I was able to get the sunglasses lickety-split and was delighted that they fit my face perfectly!  They’re a great replacement for my beloved Tory Burch ones.

Mae Movement – This is a great mother and daughter run small business that helps to support female artisans in Nepal and allow them to work from the safety of their homes.  I love the beautiful designs and stunning color combinations they offer.

The Sweet Shop Bracelets – I preordered these in late spring knowing they would be the perfect bright summer accessories, and I was not wrong.  I’ve been wearing them so much this month!  I love how you can mix and match and make your own combinations.

Mane Message – Another small business I love to support, this is my one stop shop for my favorite hair ties!  I love the minis for my baby fine hair.

The Floral Package – Sweet and feminine!

The Mediterranean Package – Absolutely stunning summer colors and patterns.

✻ The Chevron Package – Aquamarine and peach chevron?  Sounds like summer to me!

I share a closer look as well as my thoughts about each item in the coordinating video below:

  1. Loved it! I’m stopping by Anthropologie on my way home tonight to try out those 2 maxi dresses. I’ve never shopped at that store before.

I like the links on your blog to the dresses on models – the hanger shots help, but models are even better. Better yet would be a shot of you (a non-model, hopefully you don’t take offense at that! I mean someone thats not just a pallate for the clothes) trying them on.

I’m still working on my ongoing closet purge – your idea of keeping a give-away basket in there really works!

  2. You’ve picked up some lovely things to replace those purged from your wardrobe. It can be hard building up a wardrobe again after getting rid of a lot of pieces, especially if your style is evolving or body changing. The last one, body changing, applies to me, not you! Haha! My body is very different since having my little baby and so I’m trying to adjust my body confidence, as well as wardrobe – it isn’t easy! Getting there piece by piece.

I’ve been really enjoying various shades of blue this summer, and so I’m drawn to a couple of your new goodies, but the bikini and maxi dress in particular.

Thank you for sharing your purchases with us, Jen!

  3. Thank you for sharing your journey with changing your wardrobe – i am turning 25 in a few weeks and I have been feeling that my clothes are not really representing me anymore; you have really inspired me to (slowly) go through my things and replace what is not longer working for me anymore. You also made me realize that I have been avoiding to go to the beach (even though I live in Fl just a few minutes away from a beach) because I don’t feel good wearing the bathing suits I have, so I packed them up and shipped them to a much younger cousin 🙂 Now I have 2 new pairs that I love! 😀

As a side note, when I saw the white shirt with the little pineapples, I first thought that they were bees and I was thinking that it’s such a perfect shirt for you to have LOL The pineapples are equally cute haha

  4. Great video, thanks for sharing. Those sunglasses look very nice on you. I want to be as organized as you are one day I am working very hard on that.

  5. I so enjoy your haul videos. Especially this one with summer dresses. Gives me ideas of what I’d like to purchase in the future. I have been changing how I dress this year as well with being 30 years old.

  6. im loving the cut out design on the backs of the dresses! thanks for even sharing the socks, im going to ck them out online. I have such a time finding ankle socks that don’t slide down on the heel.

  7. I am having my own purging-the-closet adventure. All of those years of saying “maybe I’ll need it later” have finally caught up with me, lol! I heard you say you were going to Italy- how exciting! I am going there as well with my family this summer. I can’t wait to eat the delicious fooood! haha. I hope you have a great trip!

  8. Loved the Haul, looks like you got a lot of great things! I know you said that you are going to Italy, yay! I’m also going there in March (also making a quick trip to Paris (can’t wait to go to Disneyland Paris). I was hoping you could do a video or a blog post on International travel tips. Maybe some ideas on what to bring in your carry-on and how to organize your suitcase (and what to bring) for a trip of this nature. You always have such creative ideas and suggestions. Thanks!!! 🙂

  9. Yay!! Awesome haul! Thank you so much for sharing!! Looks like you got a lot of wonderful items!
Thank you so much for including all of the details here in your blog, to the various items so that we know where to find them!

I LOVE the bikinis that you chose – I am in need of some more “family-appropriate” bikinis too so I will definitely be checking them out! I have a hard time finding any one piece bathing suits that suit me too – please let me know if you ever DO come across one that you like!

Awesome Lululemon stuff too! I’m the same with Lululemon, if I find something I like, I stock up because they rarely carry the same thing again and then you’re out of luck finding it again!

  10. Hi Jen, I love your videos and have replied a few times. Even though I’m a senior I have gotten inspired by many of your organizing, entertaining, and shopping hauls. I love the way you vary your style a bit. I’ve decided to give away anything that isn’t quite right and am planning a trip to Anthropologie to perhaps find a dress for a shower. Just want you to know even at my age I am inspired by your videos. Thanks for sharing your life.
