Blogmas 2019 | Day 1

Well, would you look at that. I came back!  Two days in a row!  That feels like a major accomplishment 😂 In all seriousness, though, I am so happy to be back in my little corner of the internet and so grateful for all of you who have chosen to follow along. Thank you so much for all of your kind words, support, and encouragement on my last post. And thank you to all who chose to share a little of their own stories. I appreciate you!

I was actually pretty productive today. I cleared my space enough to prep it for all of my supplies and finally opened my long neglected box of December Daily goodies. There’s nothing quite as motivating in memory keeping as thumbing through new beautiful products still in their pristine packaging. I had completely forgotten that I ordered the advent calendar, which is now hanging and ready to go on my backsplash. My plan with those is to save them for days when I am looking for a little push in the inspiration department throughout the month.

I also got my project desk set up the way I like it. Sure, it’s cluttered looking. I pack a lot on there! But it’s a huge tabletop so even with all of those trays and bins along the back edge I still have more than enough room to spread out supplies and play. I’ve organized like this for several years now and it works well for this project where I have a lot of product to choose from. Admittedly, much more than I need, but what can I say, I just love Ali Edwards products!

I also managed to film a video about my Blogmas plans for my YouTube channel, which hopefully I’ll have edited by tomorrow morning. Eek! I better get cracking on that. Before I go, I want to share a peek at my album progress, beacuse I actually made some. I was hoping to get my cover page, “reason why,” and Day 1 in the book tonight, but I dedicated extra time to formatting the big pictures since they’re the first part (i.e. “eye candy”) of the album.

I tend to follow a formula with my December Daily cover pages, which includes a transparency layered with some embellishments, and our most recent professional family portrait. Our photoshoot this fall was a very last minute add and was supposed to just be the kids, but Jessie Hearn, our amazing photographer, had me jump in last minute for a few snaps and what resulted is possibly my most favorite picture to date of the kids and I together.  That one made the ‘gram! 😉

This is my “reason why” for embarking on December Daily once again this year:

My “Reason Why” this year is not something I can easily find the words to describe. Perhaps because I do not have the words just yet. It’s more of a feeling. And that feeling is that more than ever, I need this project to make sure that I focus on what’s really important, truly all year long, but especially so during this time of year.

What I know going into my 4th year embarking on this project is that no matter what is happening in my life what matters most to me is looking for, finding, and celebrating magic in the everyday moments.  The holidays are ripe with them, if I only take a moment and be present.

Change is inevitable. There is so much out of our control at any given moment. But what I can control is how I choose to live my life in the time that I am given.  And I choose to love. Love is magic. Embracing that fully this holiday season.

I already have a plan for Day 1 and Day 2 stories so I am feeling good about that. I hope to play a bit of catchup tomorrow.  How’s your project going if you’re taking part this year?  I know that finding a groove can feel challenging, but once I see my photos and stories come to life in the album, I get really pumped to keep going.

See you back here tomorrow, I hope! Until then, take good care ❤️

  1. Love your first pages! I’m sure it feels great to have your space ready to go for the month! I need to go back and add my reason why to the back of my cover page, but I got Day 1 done yesterday and even though it’s late I’m going to try to work on Day 2 before I turn in for the night. 🙂

  2. I’m so excited you are doing blogmas. You introduced me to Ali Edwards’ December Daily many years ago and I am so thankful for it. Thank you for sharing and I so look forward to the rest of your posts! Have a great first week of December.

    1. I am so happy to hear you enjoy DD – it truly makes my holiday season so special and I love hearing others’ experiences as well 💕

  3. I really wanted to make a December daily digitally, but having 12×12 album left my to ponder how I wanted to do that. I love your reason why page! It’s like the photo was made for just that!

  4. Hi Jen!
Even though I don’t follow December Daily, your flip throughs and posts about it always make me want to try! I guess I would feel odd since I don’t have children of my own. You always seem to make the spirit of Christmas come alive on your December Daily pages! Glad you decided to start blogging again, and I always look forward to your videos! I hope you and your family have a magical holiday season!

    1. Something I love about Ali’s approach to memory keeping is that she emphasizes that it is about you sharing your story. She doesn’t do it for her kids or for posterity, but for her. That totally shifted my perspective on memory keeping when I found her blog a few years ago. Hearing/seeing someone else own their story and count it as worthy of telling made a hugely positive impact on me. Even if no one ever cares to look at my albums, I truly do not mind. I make them for me as a way to document my life story. Just some food for thought 💕

  5. Hi Jen can I just say I love your ‘reason why’! It’s what indeed matters the most. It’s those tiny sparkling moments which touch your soul and make you feel happy. Can’t wait for some more inspiration xx

  6. I look at that work table and I am green with envy because my scrapbooking area is a small desk. No wonder I cannot get any scrapbooking done! After Christmas I definitely am going to do something about this. You are an inspiration in so many ways, Jen.

    1. I love my project desk and am grateful for all of the space I have. But I truly believe you can make whatever you have work. When I was in high school I used to keep all of my scrapbooking supplies in a small bin that I would pull out and work with on the floor of my bedroom. Probably easier to do as a kid, haha, but it never bothered me because I loved crafting so much.

    1. Yes! It’s from Ali Edwards. I’ll try to remember to include that in the posts on the days that I open it. And likely also on IG stories

  7. The picture of you with your children included with your Reason Why is Beautiful!. Love your words.

  10. Im going to try to make homemade christmas cards. Last year I tried to but it didnt look the way I wanted so Im going to try to not make it perfect. Being a newbie at the bloging world I like the a person that has done bloging for a long time has the same problems that I have. Love to see your family

  11. Hi Jen! I’m excited about your ‘blogmas’ this year. I was actually thinking about doing the something but I was afraid that it wasn’t going to be “perfect” so I shyed alway from posting. You have been such an inspiration and an encouragment to me. I enjoy looking at your December dailys being able to keep up with all these memories are so precious to have.

  12. I love everything about this entry and your pages! I haven’t yet participated in December Daily & although this isn’t my year, I’d like to do daily gratitude and incorporate some memory keeping into my planner until I feel like I can commit to a bigger project.

  13. Thank you so much for sharing December with us. Can’t wait to follow along. Merry christmas to you and your family. I hope this season will be filled with love and magic.

  14. Love this!! I always love your DD spreads and when you are able to share them with us. I love your reason why so so much. I feel like I need that in my life these days. To find the magic in each day sounds perfect.

  15. Love how you embrace and look for the magic each day (even in the chaos and hecticness of the season). Thanks for sharing 😊

  16. Hey Jen! Your words and ideas are so inspiring. I actually decided to join you on blogmas! I am doing mine differently, of course, since I do not do December Daily.
I cannot wait to see your project come alive! I am wishing you all the luck. And don’t stress too much for perfection.

  17. Hey Jen, when I think of that Brene Brown quote about putting yourself out there and even if your ass gets kicked, you’re still out there. (Prob butchering the quote but you get the idea) I always think of you. You’re out here putting your content out there and doin’ the damn thing. You go girl!

  18. Hi Jen! I’m so thankful that you are going blogmas! While I adore your videos tremendously I do Love a great blog, and what better blog than blogmas? I’ve been a long time viewer and reader of your works, and you never disappoint. I love that you don’t hide your more vulnerable moments (as a lot of us can relate in our own ways), and I adore your unique perspectives and craftsmanship. I’ve used many of your holiday gift guides towards my own gift giving, and I have also become and advent subscriber to your recommendations for Yoga, and I’ve also been inspired by your recommended YouTube friend Christopher Allen!
I’m a long time subscriber, and you’ve always have motivation, inspiration and kindness in your posts, I look forward to each one and I am grateful for the tips, inspiration and the journey ❤️ Keep up the great work!

“At its root, perfectionism isn’t about a deep love of being meticulous. It’s about fear. Fear of making a mistake. Fear of disappointing others. Fear of failure. Fear of success.” Michael Law

    1. Thank you for these kind words, friend! I choose to share the vulnerable moments because I believe that’s how we form real connections. No one’s life is picture perfect and that is a fact! I’m so happy you enjoy my content for this reason ❤️

  19. Hello Jen! It’s so nice to hear from you again and see pictures of your beautiful family. My daughter was 10 when she discovered Winnie the Tsu years ago, and Organized Like Jen. She would watch your videos and I’m proud to say she is the most organized teen ever! I was wondering how Winnie is doing.
