Happy Holidays, friends! I adore decorating for the holidays. My house feels the coziest this time of year! There’s something so heart-warming and comforting to me about pulling out and putting up the Christmas decorations. I’ve spent the last couple of weeks transforming my home into my kind of winter wonderland and thought I would share a few glimpses here with you.
I generally focus on decorating our first floor since that is where we spend most of our days. My favorite room to decorate is the family room. With our open floor plan connecting the kitchen and breakfast room with this space, it truly is the heart and center of activity in our home. I’m certainly a creature of habit and enjoy using the same decorations year after year. It’s hard to believe that this will be our 10th Christmas in this home! These decorations hold so many memories for me and now even more so with the addition of our daughter, Charlotte, to the family. Seeing her excitement and wonder at the twinkling lights and festive touches makes my heart overflow with joy!
As much as I love decorating for the holidays, I’ve realized over the past couple of years that I have more than I can ever realistically use and have done a lot of purging, especially of decorative cups, mugs, plates, and knickknacks that I used to put out in the other areas of the first floor. I’ve kept my most favorite pieces to display on the shelves in our breakfast room and others we use to enjoy hot beverages and sweet treats by the fire on cold December nights. I’ve also simplified how I decorate the living/dining room area to include a few finer touches and of course, our big front window tree which we hang our annual keepsake ornaments on.
One of my favorite decorations is the lit garland wrapped around the stairway leading upstairs. I leave the twinkle lights on all day and night for the entirety of the holidays. Charlotte loves them! In our bedroom we (of course!) display our little Mickey tree that we shipped home from Disney World years ago. It’s usually the first decoration I put up, sometimes sneakily before Thanksgiving! Charlotte has her own little tabletop silver tree that she picked out on her own in Target (that is such a sweet and funny little memory for me). I find it’s actually a great distraction for a squirmy almost one year old on the changing table!
I filmed a holiday decor tour of our first level if you’d like to see more:
I hope you enjoyed this look at how I decorated our home for the holidays this year. I’d love to see your favorite glimpses of your holiday home. Tag me on Instagram or Twitter if you care to share!
